(106) Goshikizuka Tumulus, Tarumi Ward, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture (194m in length, giant round-faced tumulus)
五色塚古墳は、明石海峡を眼下に望む絶景の高台に造られた巨大な前方後円墳
The Goshikizuka burial mound is a huge post-anterior-round burial mound built on a hill with a spectacular view of the Akashi Strait below.
全長194m、後円部直径125.5m・高さ18.8m、前方部幅82.4m・高さ13m
It is 194 meters long, 125.5 meters in diameter and 18.8 meters high at the back, and 82.4 meters wide and 13 meters high at the front.
深い濠と浅い濠の二重濠で囲まれていた。
三段築成で、東西のくびれ部には方形の島(マウント)がある。
It was surrounded by a double moat, a deep moat and a shallow moat.
It was built on three levels, with square islands (mounts) at the east and west folds.
葺石は、下段斜面に小さな石を、中段と上面の斜面には淡路島産の大きな石を葺いていた。
使用された石の総数は、223万個・総重量2,784トン。
Small stones were used on the lower slopes, and large stones from Awaji Island were used on the middle and upper slopes. The total number of stones used was 2.23 million, with a total weight of 2,784 tons.
There are 2,200 haniwa (clay figurines), including cylindrical haniwa with a fin, and morning glory type haniwa with a fin at a ratio of one in four to six, on the top of the mound and the planes of each tier, and a small number of lids, houses, and shields have also been found.
埋葬施設は未調査だが子持ち勾玉が見つかっている。
The burial facilities have not yet been investigated, but a jade tablet with a child was found.

This is a 67-meter-long posterior-facing tomb. It gives the impression of being a cemetery that has been cut down considerably.
From a distance, it can be clearly seen that it is a forward-returning-round mound.

後円部径22m・高さ4m、前方部幅23.5m・高さ4m。
出土物は火葬土坑・須恵器など。

The excavated artifacts include a cremation pit and Sue ware.
一見葺石があるようにみえるが、確認はされていないようだ。

直径34mの円墳
周囲に幅4mの周溝と馬蹄形の二重の壕がめぐっていた。
A round burial mound with a diameter of 34m.
It was surrounded by a 4m wide ditch and a horseshoe-shaped double shelter.
The main part of the mound is 3 m long and 1.6 m wide, and has an early stage cross-hole stone chamber made of stone coated with red pigment.
The excavated artifacts include earthenware and iron lumps (cast iron).
被葬者は宗像地域を治め海上交通を司っていた、むなかた一族の一人と推測されている。
The buried person is presumed to be a member of the Munakata clan, which ruled the Munakata area and controlled maritime traffic.

The Koka-dani burial mound is a UFO-shaped round burial mound with a diameter of 39 m and a height of 7 m. It was constructed in two stages.
The outer diameter, including the shelter and perimeter bank, reaches 55m.

On the seven sides of the back wall, both side walls, and the ceiling stone, triangular patterns, bipedal rings, circles, and arrow cylinders (quiver) are painted in red, green, and yellow. In particular, there are only four examples of the bipedal ring pattern in Japan.
石室は毎年4月と11月に公開される。

(103) Kazegaeshi Inarizan Kofun (78 m long post-anterior round tomb) in Kasumigaura City, Ibaraki Prefecture.

風返稲荷山古墳は、前方部が西を向く前方後円墳で
全長約78m、後円部直径約43m・高さ約10m、前方部幅約57m・高さ約8m
This tumulus is a post-anterior-round mound with the main axis of the mound to the east and west, and the anterior part facing west.
The main axis of the mound is oriented east-west, and the anterior part faces west. 78m in length, 43m in diameter and 10m in height at the back, 57m in width and 8m in height at the front.
There are two burial facilities, one at the neck and the other at the back of the circle.
In the neck, there is a box-shaped sarcophagus, 1.9m long and 0.9m short, with a large round-headed sword, gilt-bronze ear rings, and glass beads. From a distance of about 1m, gags, apricot leaves, tsuji metal fittings, mirror plates, saddle fittings and other horse equipment were also excavated.
In the rear circle, there is a stone chamber with a side hole opening to the south, about 9 meters long.
It has a multi-chambered structure consisting of a back chamber, front chamber, enclosed passage, and vestibule. In the back chamber, there are three box-shaped sarcophagi: an inner box-shaped sarcophagus along the back wall, an eastern box-shaped sarcophagus along the left and right side walls, and a western box-shaped sarcophagus.
Gilt-bronze ear rings were excavated from the inner box-shaped sarcophagus, kabutochi swords, round-headed swords, and silver-armored knives from the eastern box-shaped sarcophagus, and gilt-bronze ear rings from the western box-shaped sarcophagus.
In addition, a straight sword, an iron spear, an iron arrowhead, the cover with a copper handle, an apricot leaf, a cloud bead, metal fittings, saddle fittings, and a sword were excavated from the back of the front chamber.
In addition, from the south side of the tomb, bow nocks, swords, sword accessories, straight swords, and Sue ware were excavated.
Based on these findings, it is thought that this tomb was buried four times between the late 6th and mid 7th centuries.
築造は、6世紀末と推測される

勅使塚古墳は畑の真ん中に位置し、横を農道が横切る。
墳頂には石の祠がある。

The origin of the name of this burial mound is the oral tradition of an old man who said, "The villagers took pity on an imperial envoy who fell ill and was never returned to his home while on his way to Kashima on the order of Emperor Ouko, and built a mound to bury him.
