ハウンター：時空を超えるSFホラー。C級作品のつもりで借りたら、主役は10歳の時リトル・ミス・サンシャインでアカデミー賞助演女優賞ノミネートのアビゲイル・ブレスリンで、中だるみもなく最後は駆け足でご都合主義に走ったもののまぁまぁでした。

Ouija boardっていう日本の●●●●さんの原型になったものが出てきます(こちらのサイトに詳しい説明)。欧州では昔から家庭でのエンターテイメントに使われていて、19世紀の米国では商品化。そのうち怖い噂が流れておもちゃ屋さんからも姿を消したそうですが。

供養系なところがTru Callingっぽく、時空を超えるのはオーロラの彼方へ(Frequency…超好き!!)っぽく、日常を繰り返す点はバタフライ・エフェクトっぽい。中盤まではシックスセンスとかアザーズ。

↑オーロラの彼方へって今度ドラマ化されるそうで日本は公開されるのでしょうか…。

…そうかそうか、多読は新聞雑誌でもいいのか。
活字がニガテで本はすぐ飽きてしまう私でもこれなら出来るかも！(かつて某女性誌の語学学習特集の取材でも(独学で20代半ばでTOEIC900超えしてたのが何故か買われ)当時最先端なkindleを誌面で見せびらかしたんですが、全然使いこなせず、これ買ったことを心底後悔ｗ)

一人で読むと解釈に不安があるからお手本和訳を見ながら進めよう。
JB PressでFTの記事は1日2本、エコノミストは残念ながら週1～2本に減ってしまいましたが、日経ビジネスや日経新聞を組み合わせて週3～4本。有料サービスを使えば1日1記事の和訳が手に入ります。

朝日小学生新聞みたいなのの台湾版「國語日報」を紹介してらっしゃいましたが、私に繁体字は難しく、ましてピンインじゃなくて注音記号なんて読めない…(これから少しずつ勉強しようと思ってますがいつマスターできることやら)

それに私は和訳か英訳が無いと読んでても自分の解釈が不安でたまらないのです。
結局対訳付のChinesePodに落ち着くのかなぁ…でもあれ会話ばっかだし…。

ニュースで英会話、の中国語版を独自に作る方もいらっしゃいます。でも一手間の作業がメンドイ。

天空更蓝さんのご紹介された《我这辈子有过你》张小娴は入門(中検3級)レベルの人でも読めるそうで、これも候補に入れておきます。(昔からラブストーリーを敬遠する私には無理かもしれませんが)

ChinesePodの元講師のジョン先生が監修の、ペンギンリーダーの中国語版みたいなものがありますが、まだレベル１(超入門)が5冊で、今レベル２に取り掛かっているとのことでこちらも期待してます。

愛犬物語英日見比べ…からの思い出話　まだ生きてる

英文添削の●ルーツフル・イングリッシュを使ったのですが、冠詞以外殆ど直してくれないのがちょっと不満。オンラインスクールの●ーアイの●ッキー先生とかこういう単語はどうだ？とか洗練したものへと時として抜本的に直して下さったのですけど(しかし私のレベルをはるかに超える文章に大変身させてしまう欠点がｗ)、フルーツフルの方針は生徒の文章に寄り添うって感じでしょうか…
このひねりも何もないジャパニーズイングリッシュにレベル４(毎回5段階で判定してくれます)…褒めて伸ばす方針のようです。(ご参考までに私はISSの翻訳テストで基礎レベル判定)
でも学ぶところも多いから今後も利用し続けます。コメントもあたたかくて癒されますし。

I've been reading a book titled Dog Stories by Dr. James Herriot, a famous vet in the UK. This time I read it through comparing it with the Japanese edition, which was translated by Mr. Masanori Hata, aka Mutsugoro-san.

～イギリスで有名な獣医師による犬とそれにまつわる人々の笑いあり涙ありの短編集…この人の作品は20代の頃数冊読みましたが描写の仕方が生き生きとしていて常に惹きつけるし癒されるのです～

It reminded me of my childhood memory.
On a fine day in the '80, I was walking down a street with my pet gerbil(アフリカ砂ネズミ) on my head, when Mutsugoro-san walked up the hill. The location was around 小原流会館 in Minami-Aoyama.

He was quite famous at that time as he had a regular TV series and directed some movies featuring animals. His office was located around Aoyama.

He glanced at my gerbil and smiled. I was too shy to ask for a handshake or autograph, so I just stared at him. It was my first time ever to see celebrities, so I felt I got butterflies in my stomach.

Then I turned right at the corner one block short of Yokumoku Street, and on my left was the house of Yukio Togawa, who used to write novels featuring animals. Then, walking along the road, I went down the hill (at my right, there was 根津美術館). Around here, my great grandfather used to live temporarily, so my grandpa went to the same public elementary school that I did(青南小). At the bottom of the hill, turning left, there was my home where I lived from age zero to three.

I was heading toward a park called 三角公園 to let my gerbil play in a sand pool. Gerbils are known as "desert rats", so they love bathing in the sand. After I moved from Nishi-Azabu to Aoyama, I constantly kept visiting this park.

There was a tiny cosmetic shop and the owner may have been suffering from juvenile dementia, but nobody knew such a disease a few decades ago, so his wife just yelled at this poor guy all the time, and the neighbors just whispered he was an idiot.

In front of that shop was a vegetable store, and the owner always gave me a banana whenever he saw me. Surprisingly, he suffered from stomach cancer, even though he ate vegetables(売れ残りだから古い野菜) every day.

Moving on, there was a house where beautiful sisters, Sumiko-chan & Junko-chan lived. Their mother was Swedish and I bet the elder sister was much more beautiful than Tsuchiya Anna. I often saw her on kids' clothing books, (as my mom loved to make clothes, my house was full of sewing pattern books), but she didn't seem to be interested in the entertainment industry, but I couldn't find her on any media afterwards.

A few houses away was my oldest/childhood friends' house. Yumi-chan & Kou-chan. Their mother used to be a hostess, and often went out bar-hopping with their school teachers and even the school principal.この辺の学区は笄小学校。ゆみちゃんのお母さんがPTA会長になった時は風紀が乱れるとかでお母さん方がボイコット運動を起こしたほど。が、そんなことでへこたれる人じゃなかった！

…と、ジェームス先生風に町や人々の描写をしたかったのですが、やっぱり風情が全然違い…

この話を書いていると、偶然テレビで顔見知りの緑のオウムの話が出てきてギョギョギョ。
ゆみちゃんちの裏手の(青山墓地の手前)中華料理屋(北海園)にオウムがいてよく見に行ったんですけど、2015年現在、まだ生きてるそうで…65才だとか。
ってことは当時30代！

渋谷の東横百貨店の屋上ペットショップの赤いオウムは、お客が階段を下りて遠ざかるにしたがって段々声のボリュームを上げて「バイバーイ」という賢さ。毎週末このオウムに挨拶しに行くのが小学生時代の私の楽しみの１つでした。
…まさかこのオウムもまだ生きてたりして？？？

日本語の「ん」って１６種類ある

↑と、つい先日深夜ラジオで専門家の方がおっしゃってました。
こちらのHPでは10種類とあります。

ラジオ講座(まいにち中国語)は今ピンインやってるあたりですよね。冒頭の懐かしいテーマ音楽を聴くと20年前の新鮮な感覚が呼び起され、クラクラしますｗ ↓相原茂先生…

中国語学習を始めてもう3年ほど経った頃、大塚のこじんまりとした塾にも顔出したんですが、anとangの発音だけで1時間みっちり先生に「違う」を連呼されて心が折れたヘタレです。
「そう！今のが合ってる！」と言われてもどこが合ってるのか区別がつきません。
「案内」と「案外」の「ん」の舌の位置の差の要領でやってみても、まったく合格点を貰えないのです。

そしてenとengのeが同じ母音の発音というのも納得がいかない(爆)。我「先生、エンとオンにしか聞こえません！」、老师「違います、どちらもエです」というやり取りも何度もしました…

それ以来、中国人の発音でngがしっかり聞こえてくると、心の中で「ウォォォ！Gが見えるかのようだ…ほんまもんの中国語！」と、反り舌音を聞いた時よりも戦慄が走ります。

ChinesePodのジョン先生(米国人)はngの時は思いっきり英語のingのgの音を強調して話してましたが、これくらいで丁度いいんでしょうか…未だにコツがつかめません。

高田先生が今発音講座を連載なさってるので、nとngのセクションをしっかり見ておこうと首を長くして待っています。

未だに克服できないnとng…
素直にこれ↓やるべきでしょうか…

最近ジョン先生もChinesePodも紹介をしていた、デビッド・ムーザーさん(ミシガン大の中国学で博士号・中国語学と哲学専攻。現在北京の首都師範大学でアカデミックディレクター)の投稿記事。

The new paperless revolution in Chinese reading

ムーザーさん、中国ネタの週間ポッドキャストpopup Chinese(全編英語)にもよく登場する方で、自称ジャズピアニスト。ポッドキャストでもいつも笑い声が絶えず、面白い人というイメージです。

20年前、4年間中国語を勉強してきて1冊も原書を読んでないことに気づいたムーザーさんが、当時北京大の同級生の間で流行っていた钱钟书の「围城」に挑戦した時のことから話は始まります。

当時既に中国語はペラペラ。
でも文学作品はあり得ないレベルだったそうで、例えばこんな感じ↓
「二番目の姉が素早く(何か)を取って、それは父の（何か）が陳さんに(何か)して、その時彼は(何か)がとてもひどく(何か、かつ、何か)で、それは日本の(何か)の間で、決してこの(何か)は語らず…」
…みたいに、分からない単語が山ほど出てきたそうで。　←あるあるｗｗｗ

一語一句全てを理解すべく、1単語につき3～4個の辞書を調べてニュアンスの確認、1頁20個以上の単語を本に書き込みながら。半年かけて読破。(ここに汗と涙の結晶な、書き込みした本の写真が出てますｗ)

電子機器のない時代、全て部首から辞書を引いた、と。

文学部の教授なんかは、一語一句調べてなんかいないで、要点さえ理解すればよい、どんどん読み進めろ、なんてアドバイスをしたけれど(それは未だによくあるアドバイスながら)、ムーザーさんはそれじゃダメだ、と。

素晴らしい小説を読むのは、ソフトをインストールする時に使用許諾契約書をザッと見るのとはワケが違う、と。

それとは正反対で、全ての文章、様々な形容詞の持ち味や、好奇心をそそるような副詞なんかの意味をしっかり丸々理解したいのだ、と。

ここでムーザーさんは、ウディ・アレンの名言を思い起こしたそうです。(「私は速読のクラスを取り、『戦争と平和』を20分で読んだ。ロシアについて書いてあったと思う」)

現在米国人対象に中国語を教えてらっしゃる中で、よくムーザーさんがよく聞かれること↓
「中級の教科書は軽く読めるのに、新聞や雑誌を読もうとすると最初のパラグラフで挫折するし、小説に至ってはあり得ない…いつになったら現実の世界の文章が読めるようになるの？」

ムーザーさんからのアドバイスは…
デジタルに頼れ、若者よ。

スマホのアプリ(PlecoとかKTdict)、ブラウザの拡張機能、電子辞書などの力を借りれば、漢字の大海原へ出ても溺れない、と。

注意：インターネットはいわばデジタル版ガレージセールで、すべての情報が完全で総合的なわけではないことに留意。

何故縦横無尽に読み込むことが大事か、というと、大人は赤ん坊が学ぶようには学べず、外国語は書物から学ぶしかないそうです。

言語学者のフェルディナン・ド・ソシュール曰く、書き言葉は話し言葉を現したに過ぎない、話し言葉は書き言葉のベース、と。

語学学習者は大抵が赤ん坊のように話し言葉のインプットもない環境にいるから、読むことがその言語の基本・ポイントに親しむ方法であり、語感を養うことへの近道なのだそうです。

フランス語などはスピーキングとリーディングが継ぎ目なく交じりあい、それぞれの技能が強化し合ってることもあって、初学者でも読解もイケてしまうそうですが、中国語にはそれは適用されず苦行を強いられる原因になっているようです。

が、今では読解という観点からは中国語もほぼ「通常の言語」になりつつあるそうで。
中国語テキストを読むことがスピーキング能力向上に直結するので、映画やテレビ番組のスクリプト、インタビューやトークショーや講義のトランスクリプトやウェイボーやウェイシンを読むことも良いでしょう、と。

先日近所の大手スーパーチェーンで面白い値札を見つけました。
7割、とだけ書いてあるのです。

いつもは3割引、2割引、と割引率が書いてあるのですが、その日は7割、8割などと書いてあり、念の為店員さんに確認するとそれは30％引(7割)、20%引(8割)の意味です、と…。

このスーパー、中国人の店員さんが1人いらしたのですが、先月から2人に増えました。

八折优惠で「８掛け(2割引き)」という中国式の書き方をしたんですね。(←私も昔から値引きの計算は中国式の考え方だったのでなんだか奇遇。3割引きなら10分の1に7掛けとか。)
身近なところに中国の影が着々と…
そういえば先月京都出張から帰った上司が桜の数よりも中国人の方が多かったと驚いていました。近頃は春節だけじゃないのですね。

今年も協会けんぽから健康診断の案内が届いています。18522円かかる一般検診が7038円で受けられるのですが…付けられるオプションで目ぼしいのは肝炎検査612円くらいで、腫瘍マーカーとか内視鏡検査はオプションにはなく…何か取りこぼしそう。CAVI検査とか骨密度測定とは言わずとも、せめてピロリ菌検査が欲しい！

先月、インタースクールとISSのレベルチェックテストを受けてきました。
記述式＆マイクを使った通訳テスト、トータル1時間前後とほどよい長さで、普段なかなか体験できないことが出来るので、これ、TOEICよりも面白いですよ。(体験レッスンを受けると、ISSは３千円⇒無料で、インターは５千円⇒２５００円で受験可能)

インターは２回目だったので設問の流れなど心の準備が出来ていたせいか、ISSの方が難しく感じました。
ISSのテスト内容はこちらのサイトに全容がよく描写されてます。

筆記テストは時事問題で１時間弱。
通訳テストは日英・英日を数問ずつ１５分位。他の受験者の声が聞こえてくる中自分の訳出に集中するのが大変。

こちらでインター、サイマル、ISSのレベルチェックを受験した方が結果を比較してます。私も比較してみます↓
↑このブロガーさんは英検1級所持者ですが、私は受験しても確実に落ちるレベルなので納得いく結果。

　語彙　D+　(全部スラスラ解けたのに…自信持って間違うこと、よくアリ危険)
　聴解　A　(文意が分からずとも単語だけディクテーションすれば良いだけの最初の10問は全問正解を死守)

　読解　B　（量的緩和、アメリカのSelmaから50周年だとかVital Englishで得た知識が役立ちました。大問４、時間が足りず丸々回答してません）

●通訳英日　D　（前回はEという死刑宣告。何でもいいからとにかく喋ったらD）
●通訳日英　C　(前から訳さずお尻から訳す奇妙なこともしても、大意だけなんとなく喋ってC)
●翻訳英日　A-　(3パラグラフくらいの新聞記事っぽい英文)
●翻訳日英　B　(社内挨拶文で数行。逐一訳さず文意を汲み取って英語にしようとした結果B)
結果：会議通訳・ビジネス通訳準備科（一番下）、翻訳入門科(一番下)
・・・しかし私が興味を持ってる講座はまだまだ上のレベルにあるのです。

結果：入門科（下から2番目）…ついでに翻訳テストも受験して基礎科2orz (ここの翻訳テストは在宅受験で辞書も時間も使い放題ですが、契約書などからの出題で1文が信じられないくらい長いのですw 考え過ぎてあーもう面倒くさっ！とキレ気味に提出したら見事返り討ちにあいまひたw）

サイマルは去年レベルチェックして(７センテンスのディクテーションと、15分の英語での雑談) 通訳・翻訳コースの受験資格は得ましたが、各５千円というのがネックで受験せず。

インターは英語専修コースのサンプルレッスンを受け、生の情け容赦ない速さ(講師はこれでも遅いと言ってました)の素材を使っていて、凹みました…こんなこと週2回も続けてきた人が通訳コースに来るのですね。

ISSは試験結果にアドバイスまで丁寧に頂けるのですが、音読しろと書かれていました。やってないのバレバレ。去年１０月から気持ちが英語方面へ傾き始めましたが、結局真面目にやったのは週に２本の輪読会用の記事読みだけ(でも、記事読みだけでインターで言えば英語専修４から１個レベルUP…it worked!)。

ISSの評価表で地味に傷ついたのが「日本語語彙力・表現力」「日本語文章校正力」の×… 会社入った頃あまりにもたどたどしい応対をして「今度は何人雇ったの？」と社外の人からあっけらかんと言われたことを苦々しく思い出します(バイリンガルも出入りする会社で勘違いされても無理ないとはいえ) 未だに日本語が不自由orz

通訳は目指したことはありませんが(体調も性格も全くお呼びでない)、通訳学校で勉強すると英語が身に付くらしいと「中級の上をめざす英語トレーニング(永田祥…NOVAでレベル２で当時崇拝してました、今どうしてるんでしょう？・体験談はこちら)」という一昔前のハウツー本でヒントを得て以来興味は持っているのです。

↓エビ先生の良心的なアドバイスの通り、基礎体力を養うべく今季はラジオ講座やボキャビル、音読やります。

英会話つながりにちゃっかりリンクしてますＳＨＯＷです。

私は、ＮＯＶＡに通って２年８ヶ月。レベル６からスタートして、この２０００年６月中旬、めでたくあのレベル２になりました。しんどかった。
　しかし私は、留学経験なし、仕事で英語使う必要なし、海外滞在経験なしの「３ない」です。純粋な国産日本人です。

とはいえ、試行錯誤しながら独学をずっとしていた私にとって、レベル３までは非常に楽でした。６から５は３８レッスン、５から４は７０レッスン、４から３までは９０レッスンぐらいだったでしょう。しかし、３から２までは、週１回から２回１から２レッスン、実に１年弱の期間かかりました。３から２までの間は１００弱だと思います。
　ＮＯＶＡだけで「レベル２」になれたのではありません。

　実際、一番勉強したのは３から２までの間です。ＮＯＶＡですごす時間の１０倍は勉強しています。
　ＮＯＶＡにはじめに入ったレベル６のとき、英検準１級、ＴＯＥＩＣ８３０でした。２年半強後の今は、英検１級２次受験待ち、ＴＯＥＩＣは９１５点です（半年以上受けていないので、上がっているかも）。

　それまでも相当勉強して一日４時間。語彙増強、リピーティング、リーディング、ライティング、多岐にわたっています。
ライティングは、翻訳家の親友の紹介で、来日中のネイティブの高校の国語（つまり英語）の先生をスカウトして、週１回個人授業を受けています（なんと何時間でも３０００円）。最近は電子メール指導までしてくれます。
リーディングはアメリカの小、中、高校生の教科書から、大学のＬｉｂｅｒａｌ　Ａｒｔｓの参考書までアマゾンなどで購入し濫読、ＴＩＭＥ，ＴＨＥ　ＥＣＯＮＯＭＩＳＴを斜め読み。
翻訳系の日本の英字新聞は、日本語の新聞並みのスピードで読めます。
語彙増強用のＣＤ－ＲＯＭを毎日やり、アルクのボキャビルマラソンパワーアップコースも毎日。さらに、やさしいビジネス英語と英会話を一日も欠かさず聞いて徹底的に覚え、シャドウイングしています。有線放送をひいて、Ｎａｔｉｏｎａｌ　Ｐｕｂｌｉｃ　ＲａｄｉｏやＢＢＣを、ひまさえあれば聞いています。
ＷＯＷＷＯＷは連れ合いに契約させたので、洋画とあらば片っ端から副音声でみます。
　最近、英語でドラマをみながらせりふにゲラゲラ笑っている自分に驚きました(^^;;;)

へたな留学以上に英語に触れているかもしれません。

　書き出してみるとかなりありますが、理解力の向上とともに、こなせる教材の量が累乗倍に
なったのです。何度か「あ、峠を越えた！」と感じる経験をした後、その経験がめぐってくるサイクルがどんどん短くなり、自分でもびっくりするぐらいものすごい速さで力があがっていくのです。
　そこまでは、かなーーーり長い暗黒時代に耐えなければなりませんが、、、。

　レベル２へのレベルアップテストは、４５分間のライティングとエリアマネージャーによる４０分のＯｒａｌ　Ｔｅｓｔです。
普段の地道な勉強もなく、付け焼刃では、たとえ運良く推薦状をもらってもまず対応できません。テスト受験中の休憩時間に、なじみの講師が次々と部屋まで励ましにきてくれ、とてもじーんときました。
　留学や海外滞在、海外勤務などの経験なしに、レベル２になるのはかなりまれなのだそうです。

ＮＯＶＡは、孤独になりがちな勉強との、車の両輪のような役割を果たしていました。
どちらか片方だけでも、今のレベルに到達は不可能だったと思います。
会話力はスポーツと一緒です。かなり地道な基礎体力作りから始まり、繰り返し、苦手分野のトレーニングを積むといったコツコツ型の努力なしには、上達はありえません。

最後に一言。
ＮＯＶＡ（に限らず会話学校）を批判する方は、まず自分を見つめなおしてほしいと
思います。批判に足る努力をされていますか？
