高校時代に始めって買ったロリンズのアルバム"Sonny Rollins and the Modern Jazz Quartet"の中でピアノを弾いていたケニー・ドリューという名前は覚えましたが、その後殆ど聞かなくなりました.。.
’９０年代に入って、ＦＭ横浜の石黒ケイさんのディスクジョッキー番組のテーマになった’７４年のニールス・ペデルセンとのデュオアルバムの”You Don't Know What Love Is”を聴いて久しぶりに彼の演奏を聴きました。
若い頃はバッド・パウエルの影響を感ずるハード・バッパーだったような気がしますが、かなり丸くなって叙情性を感ずるピアノに変貌していましたが、日本ではこの路線のケニー・ドリューが圧倒的に人気があるようです。
今日紹介する演奏は彼の初リーダー・アルバムの一曲で、メンバーも良く、僕はこのころのドリューの方が好きです。
