甲状腺癌がん(「人間生物」学期末レポート)(注:読みやすいように 直訳でなく 説明も加えて、かみくだいて書いてあります。オリジナルの英文も最後に添付してありますので、英語で医者と話さなきゃ〜、という場合に お使いください。)8. 終わりに甲状腺がんの症例は、近年急激に増えています。残念ながら その一人になってしまったら、一番大切なこと。それは「自分で自分を守ること」です。(これは、他のがんや病気でも同じですが)医者が どんなに専門知識を持っていても患者である自分の体の調子はどうなのか あるいは 自分が がんにどう立ち向かっていきたいのか言うまでもなく、それが分かるのは 自分だけです。自分を守るためには、まずは たくさん勉強して、甲状腺、甲状腺がんについての 理解を深めること。日進月歩で進む がん治療について常にアンテナを貼って、情報を収集し、どんな治療の選択肢があるのか 調べることが 必要だと思います。また、その際、必ず情報源の信頼性のチェックを怠らないようにすることが大事です。国立がん研究センターなどの 公の機関や、きちんとした大学の研究などは 信頼できますし、自分の知らない著者、研究機関による文献でも上記のような しっかりとした機関からの研究を多く引用していれば 大丈夫でしょう。(このレポートを書くにあたって使った参考文献、引用した文献のリストは、このページの英語版の後に 記載しています。)知識を深めることによって診察時にも 医者の話が よりよく理解でき、 ただ医者の話を聞くだけでなく、何が一番いいのか、医者とともに 話し合っていくことができます。世界で 一人だけの 独特な 「一個の人間」である「自分」の治療のために。ただ、せっかく一生懸命に勉強しても残念ながら 医者が 自分の意見や心配に耳を傾けてくれない場合もあります。そのときは、医者を変えることも考えたほうがいいかもしれません。がんとの闘いは医者と 自分との チームワークなのです。一方的に 言われたことをするのではなく体調や環境だけでなく 価値観も含めた「自分」をよく理解してもらった上で、そんな自分にとってどうしたら 一番効果的な闘いができるのか、医者と一緒に考えて行くのがベストではないかと思います。最後に、甲状腺がんになってしまったら ぜひ甲状腺患者の会(Thyroid Cancer Survivors' Association, Thyca) のウェブサイトを チェックしてみてください(英語です)。医療の専門家によるものではありませんが、甲状腺がんに関して 膨大な情報が載っています。何よりも、一人一人の経験が 元になっているため、色々な人の事情や状況を 自分のものと照らし合わせそれが 自分にも当てはまるのか考えていくことができます。また、掲示板を通して他の甲状腺がん患者さんの 経験や意見を聞くことも可能です。この掲示板は、情報交換だけでなく、「甲状腺がん」でつながっている「仲間」へのサポートの役割も果たしています。さらに、ネット上でのコミュニティに加え、甲状腺患者の会(Thyca)は地域でのミーティングも 各地で行っています。ミーティングでは、がんの情報はもちろん、ヨウ素制限食のコツなど、医者からは得られない 細かな情報やアドバイスも得ることができます。がんとの闘いは 決して楽なものではなく、孤独になることもありますが、そんなとき、Thycaのミーティングで、自分と同じ道を歩んだ人、あるいは今、その道を歩んでいる 他の甲状腺がん患者と会うことは心の支えにも なると思います。ぜひ 最寄りのThycaに顔を出してみてください。(もし英語が苦手だったり、近くにミーティングが見つけられなかった場合は、いつでもメールしてくださいね!)それでは、あなたの「甲状腺がんとの闘い」の 健闘を祈ります。お互い、がんばりましょう! もう一息 武者小路実篤 もう一息という処でくたばっては 何事もものにならない もう一息 それにうちかってもう一息 それにも打ち克って もう一息 もう一息 もうだめだ それをもう一息 勝利は大変だ だがもう一息********************************************第8章はここまでです。次は、順番は逆になりますが、レポートに書いた「序章」をおまけでつけたいと思います。「甲状腺がん」が分かったら...ひとりで考え込んでいないで、よかったらお話しませんか。Skype でもお電話でもチャットでも、お好きな方法でお話しましょう。お気軽にメッセージをお送りください。私は「甲状腺がん患者の会」で、先輩方とお話ができて、とてもありがたかったです。オンラインで「バーチャル甲状腺がん患者の会:日本語版」が持てたらな〜、なんて思います(^^) SummaryThyroid plays an important role in maintaining homeostasis, affecting nearly every cells in the body.Thyroid synthesizes and secretes hormone, thyroxine, which regulates metabolism. When a thyroid is not functioning well, it causes problems in sleep, appetite, temperature regulation, emotion, etc., basically affecting every aspect of everyday life. Although slow growing, thyroid cancer has no end. Thyroid cancer survivors have to live with the fear of the possibility of recurrent cancer.Thyroid cancer is one of the fastest growing cancers in terms of cases found. Just with any other cancers or disease, if you find out you have thyroid cancer, it is vital for you to be your own advocate. No matter how much the medical professionals know about the cancer, only you know how you feel and how you want to approach the fight against the cancer. Make sure to educate yourself with knowledge of thyroid cancer and research to find out the options available to you. It will help you understand what your doctor says better, and have constructive discussions with your doctor. Recently, research in developing a cure for cancer is progressing at a rapid pace. Stay on top and keep yourself informed. In doing research on the internet, check the source for the reliability so you can get accurate information. If you find your doctor seems to be not listening to you, consider to find a new doctor because the fight against cancer is a teamwork between you and your doctor. Together, you can make the best decisions on how to fight effectively.One of the most useful resources on the internet is the website of Thyroid Cancer Survivors’ Association (Thyca). Although it is not created by medical professionals, the website has a wealth of information specifically on thyroid cancer. It also has many discussion boards where people post questions and learn what other patients have experienced. The discussion board functions as supporting group, too. In addition to the website, Thyca has local meetings with monthly gathering. It is a great way to get information, receive detailed advice that you may not get from your doctor, such as tips about low-iodine diet. Fighting cancer is never easy and the patient often feels alone. Local meeting of Thyca is a great place to be with others like you, a thyroid cancer patient, and receive emotional support.
