(1) [イグズィビット](他動詞)
※アクセントは「ズィ」を強く発音。
名詞形は、“exhibition”ですが、発音が変わります！注意！
→[エクスィビション]。フィギュアスケートなどで
「エキシビション」って言われてたアレです。
競技とは関係ない「展示」→「公演」って感じですかね。
(2) [アクティベイト](他動詞)
辞書の先頭には「活発にする」って出てるんですけど、実際の
使用頻度から見て、「起動する」の方が多いかもしれません。
“activate software”で「ソフトを起動する」。
“activate one's browser”で「ブラウザを起動する」など。
(3) [ディスカード](他動詞)
語源は“dis-(手放す)”＋“card(カード)”で、
もともとトランプの札を捨てることから来ました。
今でも「札を捨てる」意味に使われてますよ。
捨て札のように、要らないものを捨てる意味に使われます。
＜例文＞Discard things you don't need.
→要らないものは捨てなさい。
(4) [スペスィファイ](他動詞)
“identify”も「特定する」って意味ですが、identifyは
指紋から身元を「特定する」って使い方をするのに対し、
“specify”はどちらかと言うと、「指定する」という意味
寄りな単語です。なぜかコンピュータ用語でよく使われます。
“specify a folder”で「フォルダを指定する」、
“specify the font size”で「文字サイズを指定する」等。
(5) [パラライズ]
※アクセントは先頭の「パ」を強く発音。
人の神経や感覚を麻痺させるのにも使いますし、人以外の
何かの機能を麻痺させるときにも使えます。
“paralyze traffic”で「交通を麻痺させる→止める」。
“paralyze one side of the face”で
「顔の半分(片側)を麻痺させる」などなど。

→ 結婚すると仕事をやめてしまう日本女性が、かなり多い、ということは残念なことだ。

→ 全ての子供が、同じ教育上の機会を持てるようにすることが、きわめて重要だ。
１２ It is I that am resposinble for the accident.
→ その事故の責任は、私にあります。（私こそ、その事故の責任者です。）
１３ It is from advertising that a newspaper earns most of its profits.
→ 新聞が、その利益の大部分を得るのは広告からである。
（広告こそ、新聞がその利益の大部分をあげる項目である。）
１０番、１１番は、仮主語構文。１２番、１３番は、強調構文です。
ただし、強調構文ではないものの、”It is ～ that S should V ･･･” の１１番のような形は、
筆者の気持ち、あるいは気合いがより強く込められることになります。

＜名詞節を作るthat＞
３ He solved the problem in five minutes that I had struggled with for two hours.
→ 彼は、私が２時間も悪戦苦闘した問題を５分で解いてしまった。
＜関係代名詞のthat＞
４ You must remember the fact that you owe her a lot.
→ 君は彼女に多くの借金があるという事実を忘れてはいけない。
＜同格のthat＞
＜関係代名詞のthat＞と＜同格のthat＞の識別が重要です。
いずれも、『名詞 + that･･･ 』の形で使われるが、＜関係代名詞のthat＞の場合は、
･･･にくる文が不完全な文（主語や目的語等がない文）です。
一方、＜同格のthat＞の場合は、･･･にくる文が完全な文になります。
３の例文では、"I had struggled with + Ｏ"の目的語が抜けています。
同格とは、直前の名詞の「内容を詳しく説明する」ということ。
つまり、「直前の名詞」＝「that以下の文」という関係が成り立つことになる。
"You owe her a lot."は、完全な文です。
