クィーンズのAyam Bakar
- Grill Chicken from Queens -
シンガポールの Plaza Singapuraの６階（だっけ？）のフードコートのAyam Bakar (インドネシア風グリルチキン)が大好きだった。いつも並んでいたが、Plaza Singapuraで食べるときはいつも並んで買っていた。飲み物は「ソヤ・ビーン」を飲んでいた。今、懐かしいなと思った。
There was one favorite food at Plaza Singapure. That was Indonesian Ayam Bakar. The stall is located in the corner of the food-court and always crowded. But I always join the line the get it and I always also take a sweet Soya-bean drink with it.
で、この前の週末で、その Ayam Bakarをニューヨークのクィーンズで発見しました。
Now, what surprised me is that I discovered this Ayam Bakar in NY, at Queens.
美味しそうでしょう！
卵サンバルに、チリ揚げテンペ（揚げ納豆）そして、ジャックフルーツのスープがかかっている。もちろんえびせんべいもついている。いや～、うれしかったね。またアメリカでも美味しいAyam Bakarが食べられるなんて。
Look how delicious it look like. I got chilly egg, fried chilly 'tempe' (fragmented soy bean) and poured on top of my rice was a jackfruits soup (a special javanese soup). Ofcourse I got a shrimp crackers too. It is really a big surprise finding this Ayam Bakar in Queens. Thanks to my friend who brought me to Queens.
その場所は、NY、クイーンズの Whitney Ave沿いにあります。
レストランの名前は 「Mie Jakarta」、
The restaurant called 'Mie Jakarta' and it is lacated a long Whitney Avenue of Queens.
本格的なインドネシア料理で、もちろんジャカルタ風ラーメンもある。
Ofcourse they have the 'real' Jakarta noodles.
そして、このレストランの近くにおそらく４ブロックぐらいのところに、TOP LINE SUPERMARKET というスーパーがありますが、ここで、なんとシンガポールのサンバル・ブラチャンとかバークーテーの元などが売っている。
Not far away from the restaurant, about 4 blocks distance there is a Asian Super market called 'TOP LINE'. What surprised that I found here is that they are selling also stuff from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and other Asian countries. You can find Sambal Belacan or even Ba Ku Teh.
場所はクイーンズのBroadway沿いで、82nd Streetと交差したところです。
The supermarket is along Queens Broadway, in the crossing with 82nd street.
これはまたうれしいことですね。今度またシンガポールとかアジア料理をこいしくなるときにはクイーンズに行けばよいです。
This is really good news. When feel like Singapore or Asian food, Queens is the place to go !!!
(I wish it is closer to Hoboken ...)

拳銃を持ち込みの場合
今は出張でテクサス州のDallasに来ているんですが、驚いたことは、飛行機の登場ゲートにはこらが書いてあった。「拳銃を持ち込みした場合は必ず申告してください。銃弾は必ずぬいてください」とマジで書いてあったんですよ。何かわからないけど、習慣の違いかわからないけど、怖くない、、、、。
Now I am in Dallas of the 2nd biggest state Texas. Really surprised by one notice I read on the gate for boarding to the plane. It said 'Please report if you are bringing you gun and make sure that you remove the bullets'. No joke. It written there in the airport ...
ダラスと言えばケネディ大統領が暗殺された場所ですね。
ちょっと、寝る前の夜にダラス市内へ行ってみて、その場所を探してみた。
マップを見つけて、車を駐車し、その辺を歩きで見回ったが、
夜だし、初めての場所だし、何かちょっと怖い気がしましたね。
結局見つけたのが、ケネディメモリアールで、
実際に暗殺された場所は、ここだろうとそのぐらいで、よく分からなかった。
スノーストーム
- Snow Storm -
金曜日はスノーストームの予報で、木曜日の真夜中から降っていたらしい。おかげで金曜日の会社までの通勤が大変だった。
Light Rail駅までの徒歩とPath駅から会社までの徒歩が、、、。
The forecast for last Friday was Snow Storm. And seems snow start from the midnight. And this made my way to the office really bad.
Walking from home to the Light Rail station and walking to the office from the Path station ....
金曜日はスノーストームの予報で、木曜日の真夜中から降っていたらしい。おかげで金曜日の会社までの通勤が大変だった。

ワシントンへのドライブ
- Drive to Washinton DC -
先週のはじめにとうとう風邪をひいてしまった。やはりまだ体は夏仕様だろうね。
しかし、医者など行って週末までには直すように頑張った。なぜなら、この合計3連休の週末には、アメリカの首都までのドライブする予定がはいっている。
Finally I cought cold on the week before. Seems that my body still setup for tropical place. But I had to recover by the weekend, so I did visit a doctor. Why? b'coz I have plan for a drive to Washinton DC.
シンガポールの4年間のブランクで、初めての4時間ぐらいのドライブ。Vmaxならば、シンガポールからクアラルンプールぐらいの距離で楽勝だった。GPSにワシントンDCを入れ、実際にドライブしたら、、、。車の高速道路のドライブの方がつらいね。何か暇ですぐに眠くなってしまう、、、。
This will be first 4 hours long drive after 4 years without car in Singapore. If it is Vmax I think it is a piece of cake, as it is about distance of Singapore - Kuala Lumpur. It is just easy to enter the address to my GPS and go. But long driving in the Highway is really hard .... soon getting sleepy and boring.
途中の Philadelphia に寄って、5時間半ぐらい目的地の US Capitol についた。
天気にはかなり恵まれていた。
We stop over at Philadelphia, and reach to the US Capitol about 5 hours. The weather was fantastic.
カフェーで運転の疲れから元気を戻したら、午後は議会議事堂の周辺を散歩し、アメリカン・インディアンの博物館に行った。ワシントンDCには18の博物館があるらしくて、ほとんどすべてが無料で入館できるらしい。
We recharged on a nice caffe before we start exploering DC, we go around the Congress building and after its getting colder we exploer American Indian Museum, 1 of total 18 Museums in Washinton that is Free Entry.
日曜日は曇っていたし寒かったので、ほとんど一日が博物館のなか、行ったのはエア・アンド・スペース博物館とナチュラル・ヒストリー博物館。一日は回りきれなかった、、もちろん。
The nextday of Sunday was cloudyso we decided to spent the whole day in the Museum. We plan to cover Air and Space Museum and Natural History Museum...but...one day was far from enough...
でもこの子もほしがっているでっかいブルーダイヤモンドを見れて良かった。
But this cute kid was really wanted the Blue Hope Diamond at the Natural History Museum.
休日の月曜日は午前中しかなかったが天気がおかしいぐらいかなり良かった。青空だし、気温が15度まで上がったらしい。変な冬！！
Lincolnのメモリアルやワシントン記念塔など行って、お昼を食べてからはニューヨーク方面へ戻った。
Monday was holiday and also the day we have to drive back home. So we only have a half day, and the weather was extremly warm. Its raised till about 15 degree. Really wierd winter.
帰りの運転は意外とスムースですぐついた感じだった。
無事アメリカでの長距離ドライブのテストが完了。次はもっと遠くてもいいかなあ、、、。
Driving home was really smooth.
Seems that long distance driving test was successful! Ready for further places !!!

今日は雪です。会社に出たときは零下5度ぐらいの寒さけど空は普通だったが、なぜかお昼からは雪でした。

This day was snowing. When leaving office it was minus 5 degree. The sky was not too bad, but snow was falling down on the afternoon. The view of New York was a bit different.

4年間シンガポールでやさしい季節で甘やかされた僕は大変だ！

Woodbury アウトレット
- Going to Woodbury outlet -
ニューヨークからだとだいたい車で2時間ぐらいの有名なファクトリーアウトレットがカナダへ行く高速道路沿いの北方面にある。2時間ぐらいだけなので、車の運転の挑戦もあって、行ってくることにした。
かなりでっかいアウトレットで、ニューヨークの観光客も結構来ているし、このWoodburyアウトレットのページはなんと日本語のページも
あったりするのです。
ニューヨークの気温はそのとき曇っていたが2月にしては結構すごしやすい7度前後でした。その気分で、Woodburyへ向かった。ガソリンを満タンにして、GPSが指示している通りにひたすら北へ向かっている高速道路を乗り換えながら走っていた。
しかし、天気は変わっていく、だんだん寒くなっていくだけではなく、ところどころ大雪にもなったりする。
途中で、サービスエリアのようなところで、暖かいDUNKINのコーヒーで力を補給して（久しぶりに長い車運転なので、非常に眠い）、たどり着いた。ホボケンからは2時間もかからなかったのです。
このアウトレットはかなり広い。
このディレクトリを読めたら、乗っているお店も有名なブランドもたくさんあるみたいです。もちろんマンハッタンで買うよりも安いらしい。
寒いのに駐車所はいっぱいなかなかいい場所は取れなかった。NYCの黄色いタクシーも何台か見かけた。こんな遠いところまでタクシーか？いくらかかるんだろう。
うちらは、あまり温かいカッコしてなかったので、大変だった。やはり店と店の間に渡り歩くのが寒くて、いくつかのお店を回って、お昼を食べて、全然お買い物せずに帰った。
春にはまた来るぞ！
ジャイヤントの優勝パレード
- Parade of Giant - the Super Bowl championship -
会社がジャイヤントの優勝パレードするダウンタウンのBroadwayの近くにあるのでお昼にちょっと近くまで見に行ったが、人ごみでかなり盛り上がった。
My office is near Broadway in downtown where Giants Championship Parade is passing trough. So during lunch time we decide to go and watch the crowd.

ジャイアントが勝利

ニューヨークのジャイヤント が今日の試合で優勝しました。これはスーパーボールXLIIの試合。
The winner of Superbowl XLII is New York Giants!!
一緒にみなでテレビで試合を見ましょうというお友達のお誘いで、今日はBrooklynまで行きました。
To watch the championship on-line, we were gathering at friend's place in Brooklyn. Ofcourse with some beers and some fun.
実は、教えていただいた住所をマンハッタンと思ってカーナビに入れて、ぜんぜん違うところにたどり着いて、Brooklynを入れなおして、ついたのは前半が終わったところだった。
ジャイヤントは負けていた（らっしい）。このときはまだルールが理解していなかった。 まずは、後半を見ながら、皆さんがルールを説明してくれた。
アメリカはやはりFootballですね。町中にも分陰気がやはりフットボールだった。
A few incident driving to the place. From the street address given, I enter to GPS, I didn't know that I suppose to go to Brooklyn, instead I entered NYC. And yes there was exacly the same address. Finally got to straight it up after a few phone call. I reached there about the end of the first half of the game. Never mind...
On the way, NYC is on the mood of football,,, in every bar, cafee and every corner.
Giants was seems lost the game. But at this time I still didnt understand the rules. Then the first thing is watching the game with explanation of the game rules from the folks there...
ルールを理解して、なかなか見てて面白かったなあ。これからは、野球のほかに、フットボールも見ますか、、、。
It is interesting game once we got the rules. Now I have got Football to watch beside Baseball.

韓国へ
- To Korea -
コリアン・タウンです。日本系スパーのMITSUWAへ行くのは 、HobokenからHudson川沿いを30分ぐらい北方面へ車で走ります。大体そのあたりを今度は西北へ行くとFort Leeという町がありますが、ここは韓国です。お店や看板などがハングル文字。
There is Korean Town near by. From Hoboken, we can drive 30 min to the north a long Hudson river to reach MITSUWA marketplace. And in the North West side, there is a town called Fort Lee. Almost all shop restaurant are written in Korean ... a Korean town.
で、そこで、この前お友達につれてもらったのが、H MARTという韓国スパーだったんです。韓国語名は HAN AH REUM。場所はMITSUWAの真西にあり、南から行くとFort Leeの韓国タウンの始まりにあたるBroad Ave/国道 US 1&9沿い。
And a friend brought me to a place called H MART, alias Han Ah Reum, a Korean mall and super market. located at the straight west side deep into the land from the place where Mitsuwa is. Its on the Broad ave. or US 1 & 9 road.
なかは、韓国です。お店もお客さんも。どんなお店があるか、ディレクトリーを探すと、

なんかぜんぜん分かりませんね。
Almost 0% understandable to me.
しかし、下に書いてある H MARTは非常に大きいです。野菜、果物からお肉やお魚、もちろんバケツに入っているキムチも売っています。MITSUWAには申し訳ないが、日常に必要なものだったらこちらの方がそろっているし安い。ただし、もちろん日本製品はやはりMITSUWAです。
And the best thing is the area marked H MART at the botom of the directory map. A huge super market with plenty of stuff from fresh food, meat fish and kimchi in a buckets.. Bigger tha Mitsuwa. For dayly stuff I think this place is cheaper, but for Japanese stuff, ofcourse we go to Mitsuwa.

A lot of beef for Yakiniku and a lot of type of kimchi.
奥にもフードコートもあります。
And they have food court inside with variety of Korean food.
