もう一方の隅にあるのが先ほどの三角テーブル。たっぷり
膨れたビロードの赤い針山は、危険なほど鋭い針の先さえ

The floor was bare, too, except for a round braided
mat in the middle such as Anne had never seen before.
In one corner was the bed, a high, old-fashioned one,
with four dark, low-turned posts.

braided:編んだ,組みひもで装飾した

low-turned:下に丸みをつけた

床も、見たことのない編み込みのマットが真ん中に置いて
ある以外はなにもない。部屋の隅にベッドがある。背の高
い時代遅れのベッド。4本の黒ずんだ脚の下方は丸みがつ
いている。

When Marilla had gone Anne looked around her
wistfully. The whitewashed walls were so painfully
bare and staring that she thought they must
ache over their own bareness.

wistfully:切ない気持ちで
whitewashed wall:白塗りの壁,しっくいを塗った壁
painfully:痛いほどに
bare:裸の staring:見つめる
ache:心を痛める

マリラが出て行くとアンはやるせない気持ちで周りを
見回した。漆喰の白い壁は痛々しいほどむき出しでこ
ちらを向いている。きっと自分たちのむき出しの体を
恥じているわ、とアンは思った。
