Jan. 17th was the day Kobe earthquake happened in 1995.
1月17日は1995年に阪神大震災があった日。

It also happened to be the day we bacame NPO 8 years ago in 2013.
偶然ながらも

わたくしたちのNPOの設立日(法的受理)なのです。

We celebrated after Friday mini market on 22nd with 5 people (restricted numbers).
22日に金曜日のミニマーケットの後にささやかですが5名でお祝いさせて頂きました。

Made in Hawaii sparkling wine and Sake.　Healthy food comes from friday mini market vendors. 
ハワイ産の泡と、ハワイ産の日本酒、そしてマーケットのヘルシーな食べ物たち。

Project Ha'awina supports local production/consumption, small farms/businesses in Hawaii.
Project Ha'awinaでは地産地消、ハワイの農家さんや中小企業を支援しています。

About Project Ha’awina

In 1995 I was already in Hawaii.  As I saw the horrific images on TV.  I found myself helpless and 
I couldn't do anything.

1995年にわたしは既にハワイに来ていて、テレビの画像を見るも、だからと言って何も出来ない若い自分がいました。

When the big earthquake happened in Tohoku region in 2011
I said to myself, at least I wanted to stop "doing nothing", I must do "something".
It has been almost 10 years.
2011年の東北の大震災があった時に、もう

「何もしないのは止めよう」

と動き始めて10年が経とうとしています。

There are those who want to forget the tradegy.

忘れたい人もいる
It is OK not to forget

忘れなくても大丈夫だし
Some people forgot and moved on

忘れて前進した人
For some were able to move on because they did not forget the earthquake

忘れなくて前進出来た人

Thoughts on volunteering after natural disasters
災害ボランティアについて

After emergency help
応急処置のあと

You can support the people/areas to get back to 'Normal' by
helping them to be self sufficient.
被災した地域が「通常」に早く戻れるように自立に繋がる支援をする。

If you can physically go to the affected areas
現地に行ける方は

You can first try supporting people who are in the same business as you. (for example, you can create jobs for them)
同業者をまず支援してみる（仕事がなくなっていたら仕事を作る支援）

Keep in mind that you are not taking business away from people by your volunteer work.
(the story of a bicycle shop owner made an impression on me, when the shop owner suffered a natural disaster
he suffered further by people coming to volunteer to do free repair, etc. If you truly want to help someone in the same trade
you can donate your time, knowledge, funds, or tools so that the shop owner can get back on his feet.)
あなたが無償でボランティアすることで誰かの仕事を奪わないこと
（自転車屋さんのお話が印象に残っています。自転車屋さんが被災して
ボランティアで無償で修理などしに来てくれて余計に自立出来ないというお話。
本当に支援するのであれば自転車屋を運営再開出来るように時間や知識や金銭、または機材を
寄付したり出来るのではないだろうか）

Volunteer what you can (do not push yourself too much)
自分が出来ることをボランティアする（出来ないことは無理してやらない）

You can visit and contribute to the local economy (not limited to tourism, you are helping the economy by just visiting)

90 months～90月

We just finished the monthly charity massage event.  This month marked the 90th month.
毎月のチャリティーマッサージも無事に90回目が終了いたしました。

As we celebrated the memorial event, I did not think this day would come before.
記念のお祝いをして頂きながら、こんな日が来たことを実感しました。

8 years ago we started the charity event just with the thought that we had to do something.
8年前はただ何かしなくてはと立ち上がり、

I thought it would be easy (silly me LOL), but holding charity events made me learn many many things.
模索しながらも簡単に出来るだろうと(考えは甘い・爆）思ったチャリティーイベントは学びばかりで

As we continue our event time after time
何度も何度も毎月開催しながら

People realized it was not a one time but long term support
開催し続けることで一過性ではない活動に氣付いてくださり
some people joined our project not in the beginning, but later.
プロジェクト初期でなく後から参加し始めてくださる方がいたり

People recognized our existence supporting Tohoku from Hawaii, not from Japan
日本でなくハワイからも支援している存在に氣付いてくださり
Some Japanese people stood up and did something after they met us.
自分も何かしようと日本で立ち上がってくださる方もいたり

I am just glad people felt something from us and put their thoughts into action.
わたしたちの活動から何かを感じ取ってくださり行動に移してくださり嬉しく思います。

Today we have a lot of people who are participating in our event every month, so
現在は賛同してくださり毎月参加してくださる方が増えて
our appoitments are getting steady.
事前予約も安定してきました。

Recent eartuquake (Kumamoto), landslide (Hokkaido) and natural disaster in other prefectures
最近の熊本、北海道（他県も沢山の自然災害が）と
I cannot just treat Tohoku differently.
もはや東北を特別扱いは出来ません。

When people are faced with difficult struggle they tend to strive and
try to forget about the past and move on.
人は苦境の際に頑張らねばと
過去に囚われず早く忘れて前進しようとします。

It has been almost 8 years since the big earthquake and as 
you accept all the reality, we need to think about our roles as human beings on this earth.
Today is the first day of the rest of your future.
震災からほぼ8年、色んな事実を受け入れた上で
地球での人間の存在、役割を今一度確認して
今日を未来の初日にしていかなければと思っています。

You might think one person cannot do much,
but your one thought and one action can greatly change the world.
一人の力は小さくて何も出来ない、ではなく
あなたの一つの思考、行動で世界は大きく変われること。

The great earthquake made me realize what the most important things are to humans, it was a wake up call
for me as well.人にとって大事なものは何なのかを氣付かせてくれた震災は
わたしの人生の目覚ましコールだったような氣がします。

I truly appreciate people who came into my life.
これまで出逢えた方々に心から感謝いたします。

ハワイ83日目 My 83rd day in Hawaii

Aloha I’m Natsumi.

Today was my farewell and Japanese Bon dance party.

今日は私のお別れと盆ダンスパーティでした。

It was a long day today. LOL

今日は長い1日でした（笑）

When I woke up in the morning and tried to do my usual gardening, I felt a pain across my calf.

朝起きていつもの庭仕事をしようとした時、

バチッとふくらはぎに痛みが走りました。

At first I thought I was bitten by a centipede.  Then I lifted the pants and 

there was a bee in my pants!

最初はムカデにでも刺されたのかと思い、ズボンをめくると、

そこには蜂がズボンの中に紛れ込んでいたのです！

At that time no one was awake and I was alone, so I thought I would just die.LOL

その時は誰も起きておらず私1人だけだったため、このまま死ぬのか…と思いましたが（笑）

I remembered the charcoal hemp right away!!

咄嗟に思いついたのが麻炭！！

I remembered that Nobby (a guest who stayed here before) was using the
charcoal hemp when he was bitten by a centipede.

以前来ていたゲスト、ノビさんがムカデに刺されたとき、麻炭を塗っていた事を思い出したのです。

I was praying "Heal!" as I put on the charcoal hemp paste. LOL

治れー！と念を込めながら塗っていました。（笑）

I don't know if my prayer had any affect, but the pain disappeared within that day. 

その効果もあったのか、その日のうちに痛みは引きました。

I started my day like this.LOL

今日はそんな朝から始まりました（笑）

A lot of friends came to my party.

たくさんの方々がパーティに来てくださりました。

With everyone wearing Yukatas,

We did Bon dancing and we made Bon dance foods like Takoyaki and Saimin.
We danced and ate together.  

みんなで浴衣を着て、

盆踊りをしたり、たこ焼きやサイミン等盆ダンスに因んだランチをみんなで作って食べました。

The lunch was very delicious because we share the foods and having fun at the same time.

みんなで楽しく食べるランチはとても美味しかったです。

I had planned something for this party a while ago.

今回のパーティで前々から企画していたことがありました。

It is a collaboration of classical Japanese dances.

それは日本舞踊のコラボです。

Nanako is from Fukushima prefecture and she has the same goal as mine.

福島県出身のななこちゃんは

同じ志しを持った女の子です。

She is thinking of passing the classic Japanese dances to the next generations and also
spreading the dances overseas.  In order to do so she is now studying English in Hawaii.

日本舞踊を伝承し、また海外に広めたいと考えており、ハワイで英語を勉強しています。

I was able to meet Nanako in Hawaii and we hit it off.  So I had talked with her about 
collaborating our dances together for the party.  We have been secretly talking with each other 
for the past few days. LOL

今回、ハワイで知り合い、意気投合したななこちゃんにコラボをもちかけ、
数日前から2人でコソコソ話し合っていました。（笑）

However, we actually practiced together only a few hours before the show.

しかし合わせたのは本番数時間前です。

She not only remembered the dance perfectly but also learned the changes we made rather quickly.

きっちり踊りをおぼえてきており、また変更点もすぐおぼえていました。

I thought she was very professional.

彼女はプロ意識がとても高いと感じました。

A lot of people came to my farewell party today.

今回、私のお別れパーティにたくさんの方々が来て下さりました。

There were people who came late to see me after they finished working.

お仕事があったのに遅れて会いに来て下さった方もいました。

I have people supporting my dreams, someone of the same pursuation, and friends.
I felt that I was blessed with a lot of people.

私の夢を応援してくださり、同志もいて、仲間もいて、たくさんの方々に恵まれていると感じました。

My heart was moved by kind words of many people.

たくさんの方々の優しい言葉に心が揺さぶられました。

I am filled with gratitude.

感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。

Thank you very much.

本当にありがとうございます。

I think that I will move towards my dream one step at a time.

夢に向かって一歩一歩進んでいこうと思います。

ハワイ82日目 My 82nd day in Hawaii

Aloha I’m Natsumi.

Today Chiemi and the guests went out.  But Frankie, Sho and I stayed home.

今日はちえみさんとゲストが出かけましたが、私とフランキーさんと翔くんは家でいました。

I saw smoke from the mountain near the house when Chiemi left.

ちえみさん達が出かける時、家の近くの山から煙が上がっていました。

It is a wildfire.

山火事です。

I heard the brush fires are common in Hawaii, and Chiemi says not to worry about it.

山火事はハワイではよくあることらしく、大事には至らないとちえみさんも言っていました。

We were planning to go to Costco to buy some souvenirs.

私達はコストコへお土産を買いに行く予定でした。

However, when we started to go out the brushfire burnt all sides of the valley.

Smoke came in an the roads were closed.

しかし、私達が出かける時、山火事は家の近くの山を焼き付くし、

煙が立ち込め、道は通行止めになっていました。

We could not go to Costco, but Chiemi was out so she bought the souvenirs for me.

私達はコストコに行くことが出来ませんでしたが、ちえみさんが買ってきてくれました。
 

I sent the list to Chiemi and communincated via the messenger to purchase what I wanted.
電話やメッセンジャーで自分が欲しいお土産をちえみさんに伝えて買ってきて貰いました。

My suitcase was so full with souvenirs... LOL

スーツケースがパンパンになるまで買ってきてもらいました…(笑)

A lot of irregular things happened, but the people in Hawaii seemed very calm.

イレギュラーなことがたくさん起こりましたが、ハワイの人はとても落ち着いた様子でした。

I always want to be calm at heart and not shaken up easily about anything. 

私も何事にも動じないおおらかな心でいつもいたいです。

ハワイ81日目 My 81th day in Hawaii

Aloha I’m Natsumi.

I went to Waikiki today.

今日はワイキキ方面へ行きました。

What Sho wanted to do in Hawaii was gun shooting.

翔くんがハワイでしたいことはガンシューティングでした。

We went to the Hawaiian Gun Club.

ハワイガンクラブへ行きました。

Sho and I are also game companions.

私と翔くんはゲーム仲間でもあります

Since I am a trainee, I thought it was only to show him how to get there.

But he told me that if I want to it, I should do it.

So we did it together.

私は修行の身なので、道案内するだけだったのですが、

翔くんがやりたいと思うことはやっておくべきたよと言ってくれたので

一緒にやりました。

Recoil when shooting a gun was strong, and controlling the gun was difficult.

銃を撃った時の反動が強く、コントロールが難しかったです。

Of course I thought that the games and the reality are completely different.

もちろんながら、ゲームと実際では全然違うなぁと思いました。

Guns are made to kill something.

銃は何かを殺す為に造られているものです。

If you make a mistake in turning the gun in a wrong direction, you could kill someone.

この銃を向ける矛先を一歩間違えば誰かを殺してしまう。

Each shot felt very heavy.

1発1発が重く感じました。

We ate Locomoco for dinner at Aloha table restaurant.

夕食はアロハテーブルでロコモコを食べました。

After that we watched the fireworks and came home.

最後に花火を見て帰ってきました。

I was living like local people up to this point,

So I felt like a tourist in the last three months. LOL

今まで地元民のような生活をしていたので

3ヶ月の中で一番観光したような気がしました（笑）

It was a lot of fun.

とても楽しかったです。

ハワイ80日目 My 80th day in Hawaii

Aloha I’m Natsumi.

Today I stayed home and wrote blogs that I have been wanting to finish while guests went
out to the water park and to the sea.

今日はゲストの達がウォーターパークに行ったり、海に行ったりしている間に
私は家で溜まったブログを書いていました（笑）

After that I asked Sho to massage me. 

He was also resting at home.

そして出かけず家で休んでいた翔くんにマッサージをしてもらいました。

I was hearing from him before that he is good at massaging.

マッサージが得意だということは前からきいていました。

He studied massage by himself and seemed quite confident.

彼は独学でマッサージを勉強し、かなり自信があるようでした。

When he massaged me, it hurt!

いざ、やってみると…痛い！

He told me he is not really pushing hard.

全然押してないんだけど…と言われたのですが、

I do not know if my shoulder is very stiff or
I am tired,

私の肩が凝り固まっているのか、

疲れているのか分かりませんが、

Anyway it hurt. LOL 

とにかく痛かったです（笑）

I want him to learn a massage that does not hurt me ...haha

痛くないマッサージを彼には学んでほしいと思っています…（笑）

Chiemi is a professional massage therapist.

ちえみさんはプロのマッサージ師です。

I have not received Chiemi's massage yet,

私はまだちえみさんのマッサージを受けたことがないのですが、

I certainly want Sho to learn from Chiemi.

是非ちえみさんの技術を翔くんには受け継いで欲しいと思います。

ハワイ79日目 My 79th day in Hawaii

Aloha I’m Natsumi.

I did yoga with a guest today.

今日はゲストと共にヨガをしました。

Guest and I talked to her a lot at McDonald until Chiemi came to pick us up.

その後ちえみさんが迎えに来てくれるまでマクドナルドで彼女と色んな話をしました。

What I did in the past, now why I am here, what type of people I have met, and
what I want to do from now on.

私の過去のこと、今なぜここにいるのか、どんな人と会ってきたのか、これからどうしたいのか。

Until now when I talked about my bitter experience, the very sad feelings came back so
 I could not talk much.

今までは辛かった事を話すと辛い感情まで戻ってきて、あまり話すことが出来ませんでした。

However, I was able to talk about the bitter experience with a laughter. 

しかし、今日は笑って話すことが出来ました。

I do not know whether she got all the stories because I was jumping from stories to stories,
but she listened to me carefully.

話にまとまりが無かったのでちゃんと伝わったかどうかは分かりませんが、

彼女は一生懸命聴いてくれました。

I don't think my opinion through my experiences are necessarily right.

自分の経験談が正しいのかと言われれば必ずしもそうではありません。

We each have our own lifestyles. 

それぞれの生き方があると思います。

No matter what type of life you lead
enjoying it because you only have one chance to live.

That your life is your life.

しかしどんな人生であろうとも、

1度きりの人生を楽しむこと。

自分の人生は自分の人生であること。

Do not compare with others' lives.

他人の人生と比べないこと。

I think that these applies to everyone.

これは誰にでも当てはまることなのではないかと思います。

This is the answer I reached after living for the past 23 years.

それがこの23年間を生きてきてたどり着いた答えです。

Lots of guests arrived today.

今日はゲストがたくさん来ました。

My friend is one of them. 

その中に私のお友達もいます。

I got acquainted with him through the bulletin board that I used to love
when I was a junior high school student.

そのお友達とは私が中学生の頃愛用していた掲示板で知り合りました。

I finally met him in person for the first time after 8 years in Hawaii. LOL

8年間の月日を経てハワイで初対面です（笑）

He says that he will help me with my business.

彼は私のビジネスを手伝ってくれると言ってくれています。

He is also funny like me, too. LOL 

彼もまた私のように変わっていて面白いです（笑）

ハワイ78日目 My 78th day in Hawaii

Aloha I’m Natsumi.

We went to the sea today.

今日はみんなで海に行きました！

Then I shot my promotional video by the sea! 

そして私のプロモーションビデオを海で撮りました！（笑）

I practiced the lines again and again,

I shot the video many times ... LOL 

何度も何度もセリフを練習して、

何度もテイクを撮って…（笑）

It's dazzling in the sun and my eyes are much thinner.

日で眩しくて目はずっと細いし

My facial expression was also a bit hard because I was thinking hard while I was reading the lines.

セリフを考えながら喋っていたので表情も少し硬いですが…

I received an OK from Chiemi!

ちえみさんにOKを頂きました！

This is my first business for myself.

I made a Facebook page and wrote the blog for the first time.

I also made my first business cards, website and e-mail address.

初めての自分のビジネス。

初めてFacebookページを作り、

初めてブログを書いて、名刺、Webサイト、Eメール。

Then I created first my promotional video!

そして初めてのプロモーションビデオ！
