However, in recent years, Professor Tanaka of Tohoku University, who has a deep knowledge of art, observed the beauty of flame-type pottery. It is captured and expressed. This tradition of capturing and expressing the moment of water movement continues from the Jomon era to Katsushika Hokusai in the Edo era. It is not a flame but a water flame that is expressed. Rather, call it a water-flame pottery. "
From the eyes of Professor Tanaka, it was found that the flame-type pottery of Jomon pottery is actually a spray of swirling water.
Since the Jomon period, the appearance of ancestors who have tried to continue telling disasters to posterity has become apparent.
ところが、近年、美術に造詣が深い東北大学の田中先生が、火炎式土器の造形美を観察されて、「火炎式土器に施された造形は、水をよく観察して水の動きの一瞬を捉えて表現されている。この、水の動きの一瞬を捉えて表現する伝統は、縄文時代から江戸時代の葛飾北斎まで続いている。表現しているのは、火炎ではなくて水炎で、むしろ水炎式土器と呼んでは。」などと話されています。
田中先生の慧眼により、縄文土器の火炎式土器は、実は渦巻く水の波飛沫であることが、分かり、
縄文の時代から、災害を後世に語り続けようとした、先祖の姿が、浮き彫りになってきています。
