鳥がフンを落としやすい
車の色や特徴がある可能性が指摘されています。

A Strange Study from the U.S.: Do Birds Have Favorite Cars?
Most people think bird poop landing on their car is just bad luck. But according to a recent study from the United States, that might not be entirely true.
A carport company based in Virginia, Alan’s Factory Outlet, released something called the “Bird Dropping Report.” The study analyzed survey responses from 1,000 drivers across the U.S. and combined them with research in ornithology.
The goal was to see whether certain types of cars are more likely to get hit by bird droppings. Surprisingly, the report suggests that there may actually be patterns behind what seems like random misfortune.

この研究では、全米のドライバー1000人に
アンケートを行い、
鳥のフンの被害と鳥類学の研究を組み合わせて
分析しています。
その結果、「鳥のフンが落ちやすい車の色」や
「被害が多い車のブランド」など、
少し意外な傾向が見えてきました。
完全に運だと思われていた鳥のフンですが、
実は科学的に説明できる部分も
あるのかもしれません。
Brown, Red, and Black Cars May Be More Unlucky
According to the survey results, the top three “unluckiest” car colors were brown, red, and black.
On the other hand, lighter-colored cars such as white or silver received fewer droppings. Researchers believe this could be related to how birds see the world.
Unlike humans, birds can detect ultraviolet light. Because of this, darker colors like brown, red, and black may stand out more strongly to them, making those cars more noticeable.
In other words, a car that catches a bird’s eye may simply become a more convenient target.
狙われやすい車の色は「茶・赤・黒」
アンケートの分析によると、
鳥のフンが落ちやすい車の色トップ3は
茶色・赤・黒 でした。
一方で、白やシルバーなど
明るい色の車は被害が少ないという
結果も出ています。
その理由として考えられているのが、
鳥の視覚です。
鳥は人間と違い、
紫外線を見ることができると言われています。
そのため、茶色や赤、黒などの色は
鳥にとって目立ちやすく、
結果として車の上に止まったり
近づいたりしやすい可能性があるそうです。
つまり、鳥にとっては「目につきやすい車」が、
フンの標的になりやすいのかもしれません。
Shiny Cars Might Attract Birds Too
The study also suggests that the condition of the car itself may play a role.
Well-maintained, shiny cars often reflect light like a mirror. When birds see their reflection in a glossy hood or side mirror, they may mistake it for another bird.
Since many bird species are territorial—especially during mating season—they sometimes react aggressively toward their reflection. This can lead them to land on the car repeatedly, and eventually leave droppings behind.
Parking location also matters. Birds often perch on power lines, tree branches, and road signs, which means cars parked underneath those spots naturally face a higher risk.
While it may be impossible to avoid bird droppings entirely, simply avoiding parking under trees or wires could reduce the chances.
ピカピカの車は鳥を引き寄せる可能性も
研究では、車の色だけでなく
車の状態 も影響する可能性があるとされています。
特に、よく手入れされたピカピカの車は、
ボンネットやサイドミラーが鏡のように光ります。
すると鳥が自分の姿を映し出し、
ライバルの鳥だと勘違いすることがあるそうです。
鳥は縄張り意識が強い生き物なので、
交尾期などには鏡に映った自分に対して
攻撃的になることがあります。
その結果、車の上に止まり、
フンを残してしまうケースも考えられます。
また、電線や木の枝、道路標識の下などは
鳥が止まりやすいため、
駐車場所もフン害の大きな要因になります。
研究では、半数以上のドライバーが
「鳥のフン被害を避けるため
駐車場所を意識している」と回答しています。
完全に防ぐのは難しいですが、
木や電線の下を避けて駐車するだけでも
リスクを減らせると言われています。
