手元の『広辞苑』で四捨五入を引くと、次のように定義されています。
| 【四捨五入】 省略算や概数で表す際に、求める桁の次の桁の数が４以下の時はこれを切り捨て、５以上の時はこれを切り上げること。 |
同様のことを英語で表現するとどうなるか、洋書から集めてみました。

こうして集めてみると、「次の桁の数」が「the number to the right of」、小数点以下第２位で四捨五入するときに「to the nearest tenth」になるなど、いろいろわかります。
上の例にならえば、to the nearest tenthは「round to 1 decimal place」とも言えるでしょう。
さて。
英和辞典でroundを引くと、「四捨五入して概数にする」といったことが書かれています。
そして和英辞典で四捨五入を引くと、たいてい「round off」が出てきます。
ここで、はたと気づきました。
多くの辞書でround (off)と四捨五入が（ほぼ）１：１の訳語として掲載されているのですが、厳密に言うと、両者は同じではないですよね。
たとえば、五捨五入。これも端数処理の１つですので、英語ではroundに入ると思います。
こんなものが特許翻訳で必要になることはないだろうと思いきや、公開公報の全文献で2件ヒットします。
そのうちの1件には、次の一文がありました。
| 例えば、有効桁数については、小数以下何位までとするかを桁数の入力により設定し、丸め条件については、四捨五入、切り捨て、切り上げ、五捨五入、桁止め、二捨三入などを参照数字の入力により設定する。 特開2001-250018 |
二捨三入なんていうのも、あるのですね。
切り捨てや切り上げも含めてroundですので、上のような文を英訳する場合は、「二捨」「四捨」「五捨」の2、4、5、「三入」「五入」の3と5を訳出する必要があるでしょう。
こういう場合はどうすればよいか洋書をあたったところ、「四捨六入」の例が出ていました。
| When you're rounding a number, look at the digit to the right of the final significant digit that you want to round to. If this digit is 4 or less, then round down. If it's 6 or more, then round up. （中略） If the digit to the right of your final significant digit is a 5, then look to see if there's another digit after the 5. If there is, round up. If there isn't, round up or down to the nearest even digit. So 2.365 would round down to 2.36, and 2.375 would round up to 2.38. 『Head First Physics』 p.39 |
ようするに、「四捨五入」という「単語」に相当する英単語は、存在しない。
五捨五入だけは「bankers' rounding」という通称があるようですが、それ以外の○捨○入は文または句で説明することになりそうですね。
ただ、特許翻訳にかぎってはそんなに単純ではないので、もう少し掘り下げて検討します。
