"Shore road sounds nice," said Anne dreamily.
"Is it as nice as it sounds? Just when you said
'shore road' I saw it in a picture in my mind,
as quick as that! And White Sands is a pretty
name, too; but I don't like it as well as
Avonlea. Avonlea is a lovely name. It just
sounds like music. How far is it to White Sands?"

「湾岸道路っていい響きね」うっとりとアンは答え
た。「名前の通り素敵かしら。マリラが『湾岸道路』っ
て言うのを聞いたとき、ほんとにそれを聞いた瞬間に
心にその様子が浮かんだわ。ホワイト・サンドもいい
名前ね。でもアヴォンリーほど好きじゃないわ。
アヴォンリーって素敵なんだもの。音楽を聞いてい
るみたい。ホワイト・サンドまでどれぐらいかしら」

We're going by the shore road."

「バリーの池は通らないよ。水のきらめく湖という
のがその池のことならね。湾岸道路を通るから」

just as if I were a heroine in a book, you know.
I am so fond of romantic things, and a graveyard
full of buried hopes is about as romantic a
thing as one can imagine isn't it? I'm rather
glad I have one. Are we going across the Lake
of Shining Waters today?"

るからなの。本の中に出てくるヒロインのようでしょ
う。ロマンチックなことが大好き。希望で埋め尽く
されている墓地って、これ以上ないほどロマンチッ
クじゃないですか。ロマンチックなことが１つでも
あればいんだけど。今日は水のきらめく湖を渡るの
かしら」
