雨天により外出する気にもならず、豪州の友人より頂戴したガ島戦の画像を眺めております。

I was not in the mood to go out due to the rainy weather, so I was looking at the images of the Battle of Ga. that I received from a friend in Australia.

Captured Jap caterpillar tractor, taken by the 27th infantry near Kokumbona.

「米陸軍歩兵第27連隊によりガ島コカンボナ付近で鹵獲された無限軌道トラクター」

とあります。

一見すると九八式4屯砲牽引車のように見えます。

At first glance, it looks like a Type 98 4-ton gun towing vehicle.

しかし4屯牽引車ではガ島で使われた野戦重砲第四連隊の15糎榴弾砲をけん引する事は出来ません。

However, the 4-tun towing vehicle cannot tow the 15-centimeter howitzer of the 4th Field Artillery Regiment, which was used in Guadalcanal.

以前ご紹介した水無川右岸ナナ村に建ち並ぶ日本軍慰霊碑の後ろにある牽引車の残骸は6屯牽引車とあります。

The wreckage of the tow truck behind the Japanese military cenotaph that stands in Nana Village on the right bank of the Mizunashi River, which we introduced earlier, is marked as a 6-ton tow truck.

野戦重砲第七連隊の九二式十糎加農砲 (ピストルピートと呼ばれ米軍を悩ませた) であれば4屯牽引車で牽引できたのかも知れない。

The 7th Field Artillery Regiment's Type 92 10cm cannon (called "Pistol Pete" which annoyed the U.S. Army) could have been towed by a 4-ton tow vehicle.

ナナ村の牽引車の他にもう一台牽引車を発見している。

In addition to the towing vehicle in Nana village, another towing vehicle was found.

アルリゴのジャングル

2012年に初めてガ島を訪れた時の記事であります。

This is an article from my first visit to Guadalcanal in 2012.

当時はGPSも持っていなかったので「アルリゴ」としていますが、今思えばエスペランス付近ではないかと考え直しているところです。

At the time I didn't even have a GPS, so I assumed "Arrigo", but now that I think about it, I am reconsidering whether it might be near Esperance.

この牽引車については野戦重砲第四連隊の矢吹朗氏(故人)より「前線から独歩不能の戦友を牽引車に載せエスペランスまで後退した」とお電話でうかがったことがあります。

Mr. Akira Yabuki (deceased) of the 4th Field Heavy Artillery Regiment told me over the phone about this towing vehicle, "We loaded unaccompanied comrades from the front line onto the towing vehicle and retreated to Esperance.

いずれにせよ興味深い当時の牽引車画像であります。

In any case, it is an interesting image of a traction car of the time.
