US: N-Korea's nuclear list obligatory

The US nuclear negotiator has blamed Pyongyang's refusal to provide a detailed report on its nuclear facilities for negotiations failure.

"The basic problem is that the DPRK is not yet prepared to provide a complete and accurate declaration of its nuclear activities," the Chief US Nuclear Negotiator, Christopher Hill, told reporters on Wednesday.

He said submission of the declaration, which was originally due in 2007, was critical for North Korea to move into the denuclearization deal's next phase.

North Korea says it gave the US a list of its nuclear programs in November, but Washington says it never received a 'complete and accurate' list.

North Korea last year agreed to abandon all its nuclear activities in exchange for energy and economic incentives from the west. However, the sides have failed to realize the agreement ever since.

　佐藤勉総務副大臣は19日、国会内でNHKの福地茂雄会長と会い、短波ラジオ国際放送で2008年度も北朝鮮による拉致問題に留意して放送するよう求める増田寛也総務相名の要請書を手渡した。福地会長は会談後、記者団に対し「これまで編集権の自立・独立を基本方針にやってきた。その方針は変わらない」と述べた。

人権侵害国リストから「中国外すな」 米有力議員

　米国議会下院外交委員会の共和党筆頭メンバーのイリーナ・ロスレイティネン議員は１８日、中国のチベットでの住民や僧侶の弾圧を非難するとともに、米国務省が２００８年度の世界人権報告書の「人権侵害国」の指定リストから中国を外したことを批判した。

　同議員は中国政府がチベット住民の基本的人権弾圧していると抗議する声明を出し、「中国当局がこの種の弾圧を続ければ、北京オリンピックの開催に悪影響が出る」と警告した。

　同議員はさらに米国務省が世界人権状況の年次報告書２００８年版を１１日に発表した際、「世界でも最も組織的な人権侵害国」としてこれまで北朝鮮やミャンマー、中国など合計１０カ国を指定したのに対し、今年は中国を排したことを指摘し、「この排除は間違いだった」と非難した。（ワシントン　古森義久）
