『震災復興　啓示三百十四（平成２８年熊本地震復興第三十一）』（２０１７年第十九信）として、　日本国民の皆様にお伝えします。　

１９９７年８月７日に開始した英文ホームページ（手作り）を閉じるに当たって、茲に思い出として残したい。　第十四弾。

※出会ったときは、　多摩美術大学教授で、　未だ萩原朔太郎賞等の賞は受賞されていなかった。　Poems by B. Davis and Thackeryとは逆で、　Thackeryは英詩担当。

（１）[夕闇の部屋]
　　　In the room at dusk

[考えることしか無くなった年齢にさしかかった男の話。
偶に見る夕焼けの空、窓の枠から、
黄金の光。そら、もう考えている。
当たりィ、夏は終わり｡]

A story about a man ,
Getting close to the age of having nothing except thinking.
The sky,
Reflected by the setting sun,
Now seen,
From the window frame.
A golden light there.
He begins to think,
At the time when Summer is over.

[外し方がいま問題になっている。
外したら、次に填め方。
固定されてる。
まず、回すとか、ゆるめるとか。]

Now thinking of how to release something.
After being released, then how to fill in.
At first, turn or loosen it being fastened firmly.

[手順の先がある。それが時間の意識を呼び寄せる。
気持ちが走る。それなりに。
うーん。手が動かない。
フムフム。]

There is something important besides the procedure.
It calls the sense of time.
Feels like getting what it is,
Immediately.
But, my hands cannot function properly.
How come?

[力と呼吸。
目は、庭の外、紫の花、野ぼたん。
揺れてる、花の頭。
花びらが一枚、舞い散るのを見てしまった男。]

Power and breathing.
Eyes focused on from the garden to outdoors,
Where purple flowers and wild peonies are blooming.
The head of a flower is swaying.
The man who saw one piece of a petal falling down.

[「うんざりだよ」と聞き取れない独り言。
それは、遠退いていく関係。
手元には、
外そうとしている固定。]

"Fed up with everything.",
He said to himself,
In an almost inaudible voice.
It's fading away.
Near his hands,
Something fastened,
To be released.

[これまでが、ストーリーの前置き。
外してみて、先を盛り上げるということと。
固定させて、先まで長持ちさせることと。
実現の手だて。]

The above-mentioned is just a prelude of this story.
After being released,
The edge should be raised.
After being fastened,
It should be kept for a long time.
How could it be done?

[いつぞや、男は、傘を差して、
海沿いの道を歩いていた。
既に、歩いて来たことを後悔していた。
雨風が強くなって、こういう場合。]

The other day,
The man, holding up an umbrella,
Walking on the path along the beach.
Regretting to have already come out on foot.
Rain and wind became stronger.
How come in this case?

[固定は、傘の固定。
手首を固め、気持ちを何処へ回すか。
手元よりむしろ足元。
たたきつける雨足をはっきり見てしまう。]

What I have to fasten,
Is an umbrella.
At first fasten my wrist,
And then, turn my feelings toward where?
Toward my hands rather than feet.
Noticed clearly the rain shower falling heavily.

[ヘッドライトをつけた自動車が来た。
傘を回すと、乗せてくれた。
ドアを開けると、ハンドルに若い娘ひとり。
「ひどいことになってしまって」]

A car came,
With head lights on.
Holding up and waving the umbrella,
Let me enter it.
When the door was opened,
One young girl was holding the handle.
"What a terrible day it is!"

[わたしは、妻も子もいます、と男。
職業もありますが、こんなところで、
あなたと遭遇しました。
海は荒れていますね]

"I have a wife and a child.",
The man said.
"And a job, too.
I happened to encounter you here."
"The sea is stormy, isn't it?"

[これも、一過。
「万事一過」と固定する。
「あれは、梃子」
それを、手元で滑らせてしまった男。]

This has been passed through.
"Everything has been passed through",
Murmuring to himself, and fastened it on his memory.
"That is a lever."
The man who let that lever slip down near his hands.

[さて、この男は、夕闇の部屋で、白紙をひろげ、
考えに厭きて、太い雄ネジと雌ネジを描く。
部屋の中は急速に暗くなり、
描かれたネジが何を固定したか、不明。]

Well, this man opened the white paper,
In the room at dusk,
Fed up with thinking,
And drew pictures of big plus and minus screws.
Suddenly it became dark in the room,
And nobody knows what is fastened by drawn screws.

[＜闇淀む　妻子去りにし我が部屋に
きぬ裂く音ぞ　肌打ち走る＞]

Dusk stays.
In my room where my wife and child are away,
Only the sound of tearing silk,
Creeping on my skin.

[望遠鏡]　Telescope

[それは余り遠かったので
望遠鏡をのぞきました
円形の中にあったのは
草原
馬と女]

Something too far away to see from here.
I tried to see through a telescope.
What was it that appeared in the round frame?
It was a horse and a woman in the field.

[だがよく見ると
女は馬におかされている
馬は前立ちになって女を抱きかかえ
女は逃れることもできないで
裸体のまま馬の腹の下になってしまいました]

Looking at it closely,
I recognized that,
The woman was being raped by the horse.
The horse,
Holding the woman,
While raising his front hooves.
No way for her to get away.
She was just lying under his abdomen,
Naked.

[馬は長いくびを振り立てて
私に茶色い視線を投げました
私は馬の眼球の中に吸い込まれて
馬と女と共に
円形の風景の中で消えてしまいました]

He cast a brown glance at me,
While swinging up and down his long mane.
I was absorbed into his eyeballs,
And disappeared into the scenery in the round frame,
Together with the horse and the woman.

It's a memorial plant,
For the far away past.

Sometimes interrupted,
Unexpetedly.

我々の命は
予期せず、
妨げられることがある

Our life,
Seems to be fragile.
But, not so easily destroyed.
Even though partially broken,
Another one starts to work.

脆弱な面もあるように思われるが
そう簡単には壊れない
一部が壊れても
他の部分が機能し始める

Along the stream near our house,
We started the adventure,
On bicycles.

我々の家近くの小川に沿って
自転車で冒険に出かけた

At first,
A rose garden.
Red, white, pink and yellow.
Beautiful and fragrant.
Pictures taken there.

まず、　バラ園
赤色、　白色、　桃色、　黄色
美しく、　香しい
そこで写真を撮った

Going further.
In the stream,
A chain of trouts were found.
Big and small.
Swaying against a water flow.

小川に沿って更に進んで行った
マスの一群を見つけた
大きいの、　小さいの
流れに逆らって揺れて泳いでいた

Next moment,
The sound of splashing!

次の瞬間
川の中を飛び跳ねる音

Going down further.
A snowy heron,
Standing in the middle of the stream,
To catch fish.
A beautiful figure,
Like a crane.

更に進んで行くと
魚を捕えるため、
流れの真ん中に立つサギ
鶴のように美しい姿

Down further.
A throng of turtles,
Some swimming,
Some bathing in the sun on the rock.
In this stream,
A huge amount of turtles are living.

更に行くと
亀の一群
あるものは泳ぎ
また、　あるものは岩の上で日向ぼっこをしている
この小川には沢山の亀が棲んでいる

While observing the stream,
From our bicycles,
Continued to go down to the main bigger river,
Called "Yamato river".
It took almost one hour.
The first time for us,
Son, Wei and Thackery.

自転車から小川を眺めながら
大きな本流の川へと進んで行った
その川は“大和川”と呼ばれている
ほぼ１時間を要した
我々、　息子、　母、　Thackeryにとって初めてであった

Between the stream and the main river,
There are a lot of Nature and other things,
Not only fish or something,
But flowers, trees, parks, bridges and even a human history.

小川と本流の川の間には
多くの自然と他のものがある
魚だけではなく
花、　木、　公園、　橋、　人間の歴史までも

Through this adventure,
We learned a lot.
Even our bond of family love,
Has been strengthened.
We thank for a good weather in Spring,
And the breeze,
Making us comfortable outdoors.
Good luck for the next adventure.

この冒険を通して
多くのものを学んだ
家族愛の絆まで強くなった
外で気持ち良くさせてくれた

１）Fascinating Cherry Blossoms
　　魅惑的な桜

No need to explain the beauty of cherry blossoms. Especially unique in Japan. The symbol of spring.  But its life is very short and vulnerable to rain. To keep its short life in my memory I went out with a digital camera. Taken at the river bank near my house and other places such as the park, etc.  Now, let's enjoy watching their beauty.

桜の美しさは説明の必要がありますせん。　特に日本独特のものです。　春の象徴でもあります。　しかし、　その命は大変短く、　雨にはとても弱いです。　その短い命を記憶に留めるため、　デジタル・カメラを持って出かけました。　家の近くにある川の土手や公園等の他の場所でも撮影しました。　さあ、　花見（桜の美しさ）を楽しみましょう。

 this is a very poor way of avoiding telling you I love you
 when I have not yet decided what I want to write
 I love you, forgive me my distractions
 Late at night when the bars are closed
 the American people walk the streets of their minds
 they are short streets
 most people get tickets for over parking
 they deserve the tickets

 In mid year fear & visions
 haunted me ---

[年の半ばに恐怖と幻影が
私にまとわりついていた ---]

 Time, forever time, crushing time rolls over me,
 pounds and pounds and pounds
 of time pressed flesh and screws me to the earth
 like a cork.

[時､ 永遠なる時､ 突進する時が私に覆い被さって来る､
重量感ある時が肉体を圧し､ 私を地球上に押しつけてくる
 コルク栓のように]

 Dew drop, hanging by a thread
 bobbing in the winds

[糸に引っかかっている露が落ち
風に舞っている]

 I hear the thunder in your breathing
 I see the sunlight in your soul, in your eyes
 I feel the sea in your hips and lips
 I smell the fresh air in your flesh
 I taste forever in your voice

[君の息遣いの中に雷鳴を聴く
君の魂の中に､ 君の瞳の中に陽光を見る
君の臀部と唇に海を感じる
君の肉体の中に新鮮な空気の臭いを嗅ぐ
君の声の中に永遠なるものを味わう]

 The roaring we heard
 laying beneath the trees
 beside the river
 tangled together
 was the universe
 telling us to be
 quiet

[我々は深く唸る音を聞いた
木立の下に横たわりながら
川の傍で
共に絡み合って
 それは宇宙であり
我々に静かにするよう
告げていた]

⇒　B. Davisとの交流を懐かしく思い出す。　『震災復興　啓示三百一（平成２８年熊本地震復興第十八）』（２０１７年第六信）に掲載した『Thackery's first translated poem for an American poet, Bill Davis　 "The Unfolding ---"[宇宙に放たれた愛] on April 18, 1998』が最も印象深い。
