Last night I was a queen. It's really splendid to imagine you are a queen. You have all the fun of it without any of the inconveniences and you can stop being a queen whenever you want to, which you couldn't in real life. But here in the woods I like best to imagine quite different things . . . I'm a dryad living in an old pine, or a little brown wood-elf hiding under a crinkled leaf.

昨日の夜は女王だった。自分が女王だと想像するのって本当に素敵。何の不都合もなく思いっきり楽しめるし、止めたいと思えばいつだってやめられるわ、現実にはそんなことできない。でもこの森の中ではまったく違うことを想像するのが好き……私は古い松の中に住むドリュアス、縮れた葉の下の隠れている茶色の小さな木の妖精かも。
