On June 5th, 1945, four hundred seventy-three B-29 bombers air-raided Kobe, one of major cities in Japan. According to the “Records of the U.S. Strategic Bombing Survey ; Entry 53, Security-Classified Tactical Mission Reports of the 20th and 21st Bomber Commands, 1945”, held by Japan’s National Archive, into which I looked, 150 Japanese fighter interceptors tried 647 attacks to the huge bomber group, and 176 bombers got hit due to the attacks by fighters and anti-aircraft guns.
One-legged Captain Yohei Hinoki with a prosthetic leg, on this day, jumped on an interceptor, Fighter Goshiki, or its cord name George, shot at one of the B-29s.

The five pictures below show a part of the “Records of the U.S. Strategic Bombing Survey ; Entry 53, Security-Classified Tactical Mission Reports of the 20th and 21st Bomber Commands, 1945”, held by the Japan’s National Archive in which the air-raid on Kobe was reported:
On June 5, 1945, during the air-raid on Kobe, 13 B-29 bombers were lost, and the “Missing Air Crew Reports” for 8 of them can be found probably because for the rest of them, the “Reports” for 5 bombers, were not created for the reason that the 5 bombers were destroyed and scrapped after they barely came back to their bases.
