第5回目「今日から貴方も日本人―もう迷わない右と左」

３、純粋に懐石料理を味わいたい方
4、「和のこころと」「Western Spirits」の違いを見極めたい方
目的：日本人としての振る舞いを見直す
コース内容：（5回とも懐石料理を頂きます）
1日目：和室の室礼、英語表現（西洋居住空間との違い）＆実技
2日目 和室での立ち居振る舞い ＆実技
3日目 盆略（私が行います）による茶の作法 ＆実技
4日目 箸と膳、椀と蓋の扱い、箸置き、懐石の流れ、頂戴の仕方、箸のタブー、懐石の意義、禅の思想
5日目 総仕上げ＆懐石を味わう、「和」の精神＆「洋」のspirits、東西食文化の根本的相異
場所：都心（港区）
日時：7月第1週目より開講
隔週土曜 5回完結

5, The way of living
What is the original nature for japanese spirits which Yoshimune wanted his people have?
Modesty, frugality, simplicity, well-mannered, courteous, taoism,confusious spirits, respect for aged and weak, so on, all lead to spiritual life.
Non -consuming oriented, so all things were recycled, no garbages were produced.
In due course,the Japanese martial arts, the tea ceremony, flower arrangements, caligraphy, Bushi-do were all based upon these elements. In some ways, in these fields, one must observe strict etiquettes and rules to be followed. It's pretty often eraborated manneres.
Yoshimune urged people to follow such strict rules with their own pleasures, that's exactly what conuts, this is where his greatness lies upon, I suppose.
Gradually, these etiquettes were taken up to the highest code of living.
They made own rules, strict procedures to be folloewd, and even happliy made it as the code of living, resultedly we made the way of living.

4, infrastructures of Edo Era
Re-making of rivers like Tone,arrangements of mountains side, flowers and trees plants were done, and the Tokaido highway linking edo and kyoto.
Being no fears of invasions, commoneres could develop their talents in their own field, resultedly, the cultural flourishments were in the full bloom at the Genroku time. Then it's inevitable to be indulged in pleasures.
Many big time merchants such as Kinokuniya, mitsui etc,,,are legends.
Here Yoshimune appeared.
He restricted all these pleasures, then he made culture and spirits back to the original position where Japanese cultures used to belong.

3, What could we learn from this era?
Mr. Tokugawa is now a chairman of WWF Japan.
He said that we could learn from Yoshimune's era.
Of course, times is much differ from that era, but if this extravagant consumption on the globe wouldn't ever make end, the world can't afford.
Naturally, we can't go back to the age without cars, electricity, microwave oven etc,,Still there is a room we have to think about and we must do it once probably.
Question time
The audience was virtually half Japanese and half other nationals.
Only one Japanese gentleman asked him a question, the rest of questionneres were all foreigners! including his excellency ambassodor.
Actually there were quite a few diplomats.
How active they were to raise questions!
Maybe, for most of us , the Edo era is too familiar,,,???

2, 8th Shogun Yoshimune's eco-friendly policy
As well known, he made the Anti-extravagance law.
Commoners were allowed to wear only subdue coulours like blue and grey.
He himself ate only small dishes.
When Korea's delagation made salute visit to Yoshimune, they were astonished to see the Shogun didn't have any dignity look, he wore only cotton, and was bare foot through all his life.
According to Mr. Tokugawa, in Edo, nothing was thrown away, every small items were recycled efficiently.
So what was ordinary people's pleasures??
Yoshimune was really clever.
Instead extravagances, he made people sing Haiku, go to the mountains hiking, blo
soms viewing parties, which was almost no cost.
Due to this pleasures, he planted thousands of cherry trees along the riverside, which we can still enjoy in this day.
He invented flower contest such as chrysanthemums and pioneys.
Thus, he insisted, without spending much money, one could enjoy.
He indeed established the frugal community at our own devices.
