ウルトラマンマックス21周年記念日

Episode 1, "The Birth of Ultraman Max," aired on this day—July 2nd—twenty-one years ago, making today the 21st anniversary. This was the first *Ultraman* series I ever produced, and I received support from so many people along the way. Twenty-one years have passed since then. Last year, I appeared at Tsubucon and held an event at Kinokuniya Bookstore; I even spoke about *Max* during a lecture at UCLA in the United States. *Max* is far from over. *Ultraman Max* will continue on until that dream of a movie adaptation becomes a reality.第1話｢ウルトラマンマックス誕生!｣は２1年前の今日7月2日に放送なので今日は21周年記念日。これは私が初めてプロデュースしたウルトラマンでした。たくさんの方々におせわになりました。あれから、21年。昨年はツブコンにも出たし、紀伊國屋書店でのイベントもあった。アメリカのUCLAでの講義でもマックスに触れましたし。マックスはまだまだ終わりません。夢の映画化までウルトラマンマックスはまだまだ続けたい。

雑誌「昭和40年男」

雑誌『昭和40年男』は『ウルトラマン特集』7月10日（ウルトラマンの日）に発売です。僕もインタビューをお受けしました。特撮世界の後輩としまして飯島敏宏監督や上原正三さんや実相寺昭雄監督他ウルトラマンのレジェンドの先輩方のことをお話ししました。

サバ缶、宇宙へ行く

『サバ缶、宇宙へ行く』最高の最終回でした。僕は最終回の特撮班で参加しました。特撮監督なんですけど。でも、これを撮影しているのに、何度も見ているのに、放送を見てあらためて感動しました。今どき珍しいピュアで直球な物語。いろんな意味でとっても幸福で素敵な作品でした。キャストスタッフ関係者の皆さんが真摯に作っていた。一緒に作れて嬉しかったです。未見の方は、ぜひTVerなどで見てみてください。“Canned Mackerel Goes to Space” had the best finale ever. Actually, I was part of the special effects team for the finale—I’m the special effects director. But even though I was there filming it and have watched it countless times, seeing the broadcast moved me all over again. It’s a pure, straightforward story—a rarity these days. In so many ways, it was a truly joyful and wonderful production. Everyone involved—the cast, crew, and staff—put their hearts into it. I was so happy to be a part of it. LAでしたこと②

Fun Times in LA.

Since my friend OKI was going, I decided to tag along to Monsterpalooza, where I ran into a lot of old acquaintances. The biggest surprise of all was seeing Akihito Ikeda, a designer and special effects makeup artist based in LA—and an old friend of mine.We’d actually run into each other by chance two years ago at the Kyoto Museum of Culture—though on that occasion, we were both there as instructors—but this was only the second time we’d met in the past 20 years.

So, why do we know each other? It’s because we worked together on *Ultraman Cosmos*—AKIHITO as the monster designer and me as the director and special effects director.

Since we’re comrades who originally created the same project together, we instantly fell back into our old dynamic. I was really happy to see him.

Oki Miyano, who’s been helping me out in LA, also knew AKIHITO, so the three of us went out to dinner. We talked about all sorts of things. It was surprising to realize there were things I was only just figuring out 20 years later!!

Ribeye steak. It was delicious. American steak is delicious.

LAで楽しかったこと。

友人のOKIさんが行くので、一緒にモンスターパルーザに行ってみたらたくさん旧知の人にお会いしました。そして中でも最もびっくりだったのが、LAを拠点に活躍しているデザイナーで特殊メイクアーティストの、そして旧知のAKIHITOさんです。2年前にも、やっぱり偶然、京都文化博物館でお会いしたのですが、このといいは二人とも講師でしたけど、この20年間でお会いしたのはこれで2回目です。

さて、なぜ我々が知り合いかというと、我々は『ウルトラマンコスモス』でAKIHITOさんが怪獣デザイナー、僕が監督特技監督という関係で仕事していたからです。

だから、もともと同じ作品を一緒に作った同志ですから、一瞬で昔の関係に戻ります。会えて本当に嬉しかったです。

LAでお世話になっているOKIさんもAKIHITOさんの知り合いだったので3人でご飯に行きました。たくsなの話ししました。20年目で初めてわかることがあったりして、びっくりしたり！！

リブアイステーキ。美味しかったで。アメリカのステーキは美味しいです。

LAでしたこと①

Something fun I did in LA. I had dinner at Canter's Deli with Steve Ryfle , an authority on Godzilla research and author of official Godzilla books; Warner Bradley, author who writes books on Zen; and Oki Miyanono , a film sound restoration technician living in the US. It was delicious!! I gave Steve my book "Night Train" and some Crunchy chocolates as gifts. I was happy that Steve gave me a copy of his book, Godzilla: The First 70 Years, as a gift. It's the greatest Godzilla research book of all time.

LAでしたこと。ゴジラ研究の権威で公式ゴジラ本も執筆された作家の Steve Ryfleさんと禅の本を執筆している作家のWarner Bradley さんとアメリカ在住の映画音声修復技師の Oki Miyano さんとCanter's Deliでお食事しました。とっても美味しかった！Steveさんには「ナイトトレイン」とクランキーチョコをプレゼントして、Steveさんからは彼が執筆したGodzilla: The First 70 Yearsをプレゼントされて嬉しい。最高のゴジラ研究書です。

完成試写

長かったロサンゼルス滞在から帰国しました。それは素敵な滞在でそのことはまた書くかもしれませんが、昨日は昨年からやってきた監督したCMプロモーション映像作品の試写会。撮影でお世話になった京都東映の皆さんがいなかったのは寂しかったけれど、東京サイドでクライアントさんも含めて、久しぶりにみんなで集まれて嬉しい。素敵なキャストスタッフに恵まれまして本当に最高な仕上がりになりました。今年の9月ごろにはこれが何かお知らせできると思います。皆さんにご覧いただければ嬉しいです。

I've returned to Japan after a long stay in Los Angeles. It was a wonderful stay, and I might write about it again later, but yesterday we had a preview screening of the commercial promotional video I directed, which I've been working on since last year. I was sad that the people from Toei Kyoto who helped with the filming weren't there, but I was happy to be able to get together with everyone, including the client, on the Tokyo side after a long time. I was blessed with a wonderful cast and crew, and the finished product is truly amazing. I think I'll be able to announce something about it around September of this year. I hope you all will take a look.

UCLAで特撮についての講義をしました。

光栄なことにUCLAで「特撮」の講義をしました！

最初はNaro特撮講座でやっていたような特撮文化論・技術論をやろうかと考えていましたが、最終的には全然違ってトーク・質疑応答主体のアドリブいっぱいな感じで進めました。楽しい感じになったのではないかと思います。今回は初めての海外大学での講義でした。うまくいって一安心！！皆様に深く感謝いたします。写真はUCLAのジョーダンさんと。

平成Climax展

「ウルトラマン Gallery 平成climax展」が渋谷西武で開催中です。円谷プロの渋谷浩康プロデューサーにアテンドしていただいて見てきました。懐かしい撮影プロップがたくさんで、貴重な資料もいっぱいで、でも何より、貼られていたファンの方々のコメントに胸がいっぱいです。ファンの方々の声を聴けるのは素晴らしいな。みんな思い思いの言葉を残してくれていました。感動しました。ありがとうございます会場のメインパネルにサインをしてきましたので、もし行く方がいらっしゃれば探してみてください

ウルトラマンマックス同窓会

昨日は懐かしいメンバー（金子修介監督、梶研吾さん、小林雄次さん、金子二郎さん、宍戸開さん、ショーンニコルスさん、長谷部瞳さん、桜井浩子さん）でウルトラマンマックスの20周年やらBlu-rayBOXの発売やら、いろいろを祝いました、と言いますか、集まって楽しく宴会しました！

最初は先日の紀伊國屋書店さんイベントの打ち上げとして始まったんですけど、でツブコンの後にも集まっていませんでしたし、急遽、来れる人ということで集合！マックスらしい気楽な感じで盛り上がりました。ここは成城ですから20年前にみんなでマックスを作っていた場所です。その場所で20年経っても変わらない素敵な仲間？友達？あるいは同志？なんというのでしょうか？つまりはマックスです。マックスというのは今やいろんな意味を持つのですね。最初にウルトラマンの名前をマックスにしようとした時は海外ではマックスというのは犬の名前に多いとか、言われましたけど　笑。でも、つくづく思うのは、20年経ってもたくさんの方々に面白かったと言っていただけるのは幸福なことだということです。今回は少ない人数で集まりましたけど、また今後も、なんとなく集まりながら、来られる人は来ると言った感じで気楽に集まりたいねっていう話になりました。みんな、お会いしましょうね！

そして、でも、我々の夢はマックスの映画化、映像化です。ファンの皆さんの期待に応えたいし、唯一映画化されていないというマックスに決着をつけたい。いまなら、我々もいろいろとできますし。そんなことを楽しいメンバーと楽しいお酒をいただきながら考えました。ということで、「未来で会いましょう！」

続・ウルトラマンマックス20周年イベント 新宿紀伊国屋書店本店

先日の紀伊國屋書店新宿本店さんでのウルトラマンマックス20周年記念イベントの写真をたくさんいただきましたのでアップしました。登壇者は金子修介監督、梶研吾さん、小林雄次さん、金子二郎さん、そして私です。楽しいイベントでしたね！

今回のイベントは円谷プロダクションさん、紀伊国屋書店新宿本店さん、そして相模女子大学さん、神奈川工科大学さんの共催でした。あらためまして20年前のウルトラマンマックスのプロデューサーとして関係各位、皆様に感謝申し上げます。そして集まってくださったファンの皆様に深く感謝申し上げます。これからもマックスやウルトラの志を共有しながら伝えていきたいと考えておりますし、いつか、夢のマックス映画化にもお挑戦したいと考えています。これはあくまでも挑戦ですけど　笑　 引き続き、どうぞ、よろしくお願いいたします！！

I've uploaded many photos from the recent Ultraman Max 20th Anniversary Event at Kinokuniya Shinjuku Main Store. The panelists are Director Shusuke Kaneko, Kengo Kaji, Yuji Kobayashi, Jiro Kaneko, and myself. What a fun event it was! This event was co-hosted by Tsuburaya Productions, Kinokuniya Shinjuku Main Store, Sagami Women's University, and Kanagawa Institute of Technology. Once again, as the producer of Ultraman Max 20 years ago, I extend my deepest gratitude to everyone involved. And I sincerely thank all the fans who gathered together. I intend to continue sharing and passing on the spirit of Max and Ultraman. Someday, I also hope to take on the challenge of making a dream Max movie. This is purely a challenge, though! lol Please continue to support us!!
