Australian pop star Troye Sivan sits down with Travis Mills to talk about his upcoming third studio album 'Something to Give Each Other' and the hit lead single "Rush".

Troye shares his experience creating the new song and album, as well as the importance of visuals to accompany his music and the story behind the "Rush" music video. The conversation also touches on pop stars, musical evolution, and intentions for an eventual tour.

Travis : How you doing today?
トラヴィス : やあ。調子はどう?
Sivan : I'm doing so well, um... it's hot. I am flying to New York after this and I'm just like I feel like I'm on cloud nine at the moment. I feel really good.
シヴァン：すごく調子がいいよ。うーん…暑いね。この後ニューヨークに飛ぶんだけど、今はまるで雲の上にいるような気分さ。本当にいい気分なんだ。
Travis : I know ahead of the release of this song, you know you're teasing things on socials, and you know now that we're a week out after it's been released I mean. Did you always know that you had something so incredibly special with a song like 'Rush'?
トラヴィス：この曲のリリース前に、SNSで色々と予告していたのを知ってるよ。リリースから1週間経った今、もう分かってるよね。「Rush」みたいな曲に、こんなにも特別な何かがあるって、ずっと前から分かってたの？
Sivan : You know what? I knew that I had something that like, um...I really wanted to listen to with my friends. I think sometimes I make music where I'm like, I mean, I always like I would hope so, but I always loved the music that I make, right. And you know, but it's also, it's hard to read what other people are gonna, you know, how they're gonna react and stuff. And I remember, I went away with my sister and her friends. And she's younger than me. And she's got like just the coolest friends. And we were all having such a good time, and everyone's like just hot, and like drinking and sweaty and it was summer. And it was just like such a good vibe. And my sister was like, ’Can you play them that song?’ And I'd just done it. And I was like kind of embarrassed or whatever.
シヴァン：そう。 何か、うーん…友だちと一緒に聴きたい曲があるって分かってた。ときどき、思うんだ。いつもそうありたいって思うんだけど、自分の作る音楽はずっと好きだったんだよね。でも、他の人がどう反応するかって、そういうのを読むのって難しいんだ。妹と、妹の友だちといっしょに、どこかへ行った時のことなんだけど。妹はぼくより年下で、すごくクールな友だちがいっぱいいたんだ。みんなすごく楽しい時間を過ごして、すごく暑くて、お酒を飲んで汗だくで、夏だった。すごくいい雰囲気だった。妹が「あの曲を聴かせてくれる？」って言って、ぼくは聴かせちゃった。ちょっと恥ずかしかったというか、そういう感じだった。
Sivan : But everyone was drunk enough, where I was like, this is gonna be fun. And I played it. And I think, that was when I was like, Oh, like I feel like this, pops off. Because, everyone sort of like stood up. And, I mean, like I said, they were really drunk. So, I think, they would have stood up, no matter what but like it. Just they were singing the song by the end. And I think, that was when I was like, Okay, this feels like, I wanted to like kind of slap people in the face with the first single, and just do something so like, bold and big and kind of like, brash, you know. And this felt like that to me. So, I'm just happy that it that it's like seemingly that people are really into it. And that, yeah. But you can't ever like predict it.
シヴァン：でも、みんなかなり酔っ払ってたから、これは絶対楽しいぞって思った。それでプレイしたんだ。その時、「あ、これ、最高だ！」って思ったんだ。だって、みんな立ち上がってたからね。さっき言ったように、みんなすごく酔ってた。だから、どんな状況でも立ち上がってたと思う。でも、最後まで歌ってた。その時、「よし、そうさ、ファーストシングルでみんなの顔面をひっぱたいて、大胆で、大きくて、ちょっと無遠慮なことをやりたかったんだ」て思った。僕は、そう感じた。みんながすごくハマってくれてるみたいで、すごく嬉しいよ。そう、そう。でも、どうなるかなんて予測できないからね。
Travis : No, not at all.
トラヴィス：そうだね、予測なんて、できっこないさ。
Sivan : Yeah.
シヴァン：うん。
Travis : What is your personal favorite part of the song for people to pay extra attention to?
トラヴィス：この曲の中で、特に注目してもらいたいのは、どこなの？
Sivan : I really like, Okay, there's two things. First, there's this, like um... tremulated vocal sample at the very end in the outro of the song. And it always made me like, do this really embarrassing thing, where I'm like kind of like...

Travis : You can't stop shimmying right now. shimmying, shimmying...
トラヴィス : 踊らずにはいられなくてね。踊って、踊って…
Sivan : Right. Exactly shimmying my chest. And so, I knew in the video. I was like, we need to have someone in that part of the song, like really just shaking their tatas. And so, that's probably my favorite part. And then, also, some of the lyrics in the song are really just like cheeky. And we had a lot of fun writing them, um, especially in verse. Two, I really like the lyrics there.
シヴァン：そう。まさに、胸を揺らしてるところさ。だから、ビデオを見て、この部分で誰かを絶対に入れなきゃって思ったんだ。おっぱいを揺らしてる感じの。だから、多分そこが一番好きな部分かな。それから、この曲の歌詞の中には、すごく生意気な感じの歌詞もあるんだよね。特にヴァースの部分は、すごく楽しく書けた。あの歌詞が、すごく気に入ってるんだ。
Travis : Do you have a favorite one that just sticks out?
トラヴィス：特に印象に残っている、お気に入りの歌詞はあるの？
Sivan : Yeah. I think, I think, 'Kiss it when you're done' is really hot to me.
シヴァン：うん。「キスしてよ、君が済んだら」って、すごくセクシーだと思う。
Travis : Take me back to the making of 'Rush'. I know it's produced by Styalz Fuego, Novodor, and Zhone. What was the session like?
トラヴィス : 「Rush」の制作過程を、振り返ってくれるかい。Styalz Fuego、Novodor、Zhoneがプロデュースしたと聞いているけど、セッションはどんな感じだった？
Sivan : So, this was a weird one. Because, I made most of the album with a few people that I have worked with before. And I was like, I really just wanted to make this album with friends. Because, I was like, I'm in such a good place, like in my own life. And I just wanted it to be fun. You know, I was like, that's got to be, it's got to be just a fun time. But then, we were near the end of the album. And I didn't have like, the unapologetic like club song. And I knew that, that was so important to the identity of the album. And so, I actually put on Instagram.
I was like, 'Does anyone have tracks?', that they want to send me, and people started like, um... flooding my inbox. I was getting, I don't know how they found my email, but, like I was getting emails, and I was getting Instagram DMS, and um... just like kind of hit up. And then, you know, it was coming from like all these random places. There were some really good stuff like some amazing stuff was in my way.
シヴァン：ちょっと変わっていたかな。これまでのアルバムのほとんどは、以前一緒に仕事をしたことのある数人と作ったんだ。だから、このアルバムは友だちとだけ作りたかった。自分の人生が、すごくいい状況だったから。だから、ただ楽しいものにしたかった。楽しい時間でなきゃって思ってた。アルバムも終盤に差し掛かってきて、クラブっぽい曲が全然なかったんだけど、このアルバムのアイデンティティにとって、クラブっぽい曲がすごく重要なんだってことはわかってた。それで、インスタグラムにアップしたんだ。「誰か、曲のアイディアを送ってくれる人いる？」って聞いたら、みんなが、えーっと…メールボックスに殺到し始めた。どうやってメールアドレスを見つけたのかはわからないけど、メールが届いたり、インスタグラムのDMが届いたりして…とにかく連絡が来た。そして、まるでランダムな場所から、曲ができあがっていったんだ。本当に素晴らしいものが、ぼくの行く手にあった。
Sivan : And then, this actually came from a friend though, like someone that I really know in real life. And he was like, Hey, 'I'm managing our other friend Alex'. And Alex just like worked on the song or like worked on this track, and I was like, just waking up in Melbourne, and I put the phone to my ear. It's like 6am or something. And I clicked play and this song like from the first second, it starts you hear that chant. And I was like, Oh damn, like this field, I sort of like sat up in bed. The chant was there, and then, I went into the studio like I think it was that day. And I wrote the verses in the pre-chars and everything like that around it. And yeah, it was like so easy. It was really it, just that kind of came super easily, it was great.（Read more in part2）
シヴァン：実は、リアルですごく仲の良い友達からだったんだけど、「ねえ、アレックス（Rushの共同制作者のひとり、Alex Chapman）が俺の友だちで、マネージメントをしているんだ」って言ってくれたんだ。アレックスがちょうどこの曲、というかトラックに取り組んだところで、ぼくはメルボルンで目が覚めて、スマホを耳に当てた。朝の6時くらいだったかな。再生ボタンを押したら、曲が始まってすぐ、あのチャント（チャントとは、一定のリズムと節を持って言葉や音を繰り返して発声する行為を指す英語の言葉。日本語では「詠唱」「唱和」「聖歌」などと訳され、主に祈りや応援、学習などで使われる。スポーツの試合などで、観客がチームを応援するために、繰り返し唱和する応援歌やコールの意味も）が聞こえてきた。「ああ、このフィールドみたいな感じが、良かったんだ」って思って、ベッドから起き上がった。チャントが聞こえてきて、それからスタジオに入ったんだ。確かその日だったと思う。それで、プレコーラスのヴァースとか、そのあたりを全部書いた。うん、すごく簡単だった。本当に、すごく簡単にできた。最高だったよ。（パート2に続く）

Troye Sivan has announced details of a huge UK and European tour for 2024.
The tour is in support of Sivan’s acclaimed album ‘Something To Give Each Other’, which was released back in October. The record ? Sivan’s first in five years ? scored the Australian a glowing five-star review from Nick Levine for NME. Levine wrote: “It’s a strikingly vital pop album charged with love, lust, sweat and regret. You won’t need a bosh of poppers to feel thoroughly intoxicated.”
Hailed by The Guardian as "one of this year's best and most distinctive pop albums" and celebrated by Rolling Stone as "a pristine slice of pop heaven," the Something to Give Each Other Tour is destined to be Sivan 's biggest, boldest and brightest tour.
Sivan’s 17-date run will begin in Portugal on May 29, 2024, before continuing throughout Europe. Sivan arrives in the UK on June 22 at the Manchester AO Arena; the tour will conclude in Birmingham.Tickets for the shows go on sale on December 8 at 9am.
