特許出願のデータベースを調べると、鉄道車両に対する訳語として日本人による使用例が圧倒的に多い、rolling stock。
前回も書いたように、米国の連邦規則集（Code of Federal Regulations（CFR））のTitle 49 「Transportation（運輸）」の定義には、

単数形のrolling stockに対して、buses・・・used for guidewaysと複数形で名詞が列挙され、rolling stockは一種の総称のように使われていますよね。
米国特許分類はどうかというと、CLASS 105が「RAILWAY ROLLING STOCK」です。
railwayと断ってありますので、線路の上での話に限定して考えてよいでしょう。
この中にTRAINSという項目（1.4)があり、次のように説明されています。
ここでもやはり、rolling stockは総称的に使われているように読めます。

基本的に、「総称の」「不可算名詞」ですし、英和辞典でも、たとえば研究社 新英和大辞典第６版は
1 (鉄道の)全車両《機関車･客車･貨車など全部》.
2 《米》 (運輸会社所有の)全車両《トラック･トレーラーなど》.
と説明しています。
ところが、日本からの出願には、「車両１両分」もしくは複数の車体を含む「可算名詞」として使われているものが、相当数で見られます。

このように「A rolling stock...」とした請求項は、日本語と同じ意味を伝達しているのでしょうか・・・。
それとも単に審査官が大目に見てくれただけ？
あるいは？？
