誕生日を迎えると秋／When My Birthday Comes, Autumn Follows

8月末は私の誕生日。
毎年この日が終わるとそろそろ秋だなって思う。

もうこの時期が涼しいことはないけど、
それでもほんのり秋の気配を感じる。
太陽の色が変わってきたり、夜の虫の声が変わったり、
夕方が早く来たり、夜のお散歩がしやすくなったり。

来週は着物を着て出かける予定。
まだ薄物のつもりだけど、気持ちはすっかり秋に向かっているから、
水色とか透け感しっかりの素材はちょっと違う気がする。

それで新宿の津田家さんに行ってみた。
津田マダムに帯揚げは暖色系でパンチのあるものを薦められた。
確かにいい感じ。
黒の着物に黒系の帯を合わせる予定だから、
この色を効かせると自分の気持ちにも合いそう。

素晴らしい。

津田マダム、もう80歳近いっておっしゃってたけど、
色気も元気もすごかった。
あぁいうふうに年齢を重ねられるなら、長生きもいいのかもなぁ。

それはさておき。

せっかく夜の気温が落ち着いてきたし、

今夜はちょっと思考を整理するためにも夜の散歩しようかな。

The end of August is my birthday.
Every year, once the day is over, I feel that autumn is just around the corner.

It’s no longer cool this time of year, but still, there’s a faint hint of autumn.
The color of the sunlight changes, the sound of insects at night shifts,

 evenings come earlier, and night walks feel easier.

Next week I’m going out in kimono.
I’m still planning to wear a summer piece, 

but since my heart is already leaning toward autumn, 

something like pale blue, or a very sheer fabric, feels a bit off.

So I went to Tsudaya in Shinjuku.
Madame Tsuda suggested a bold, warm-toned obiage.

 And yes, it felt just right.
With a black kimono and a black-toned obi, 

that color will give the whole look the right accent, 

and it matches my mood perfectly.

 Wonderful.

Madame Tsuda told me she’s nearly eighty, 

yet she radiated both sensuality and energy.
If aging can look like that, then living long might actually be a good thing...

Anyway.
Since the night air has finally cooled down, 

maybe I’ll go for a walk tonight—just to clear my thoughts a little.

着物で町おこし

「着物で町おこし」

それを、私が始めようと思います！

（いきなりの大風呂敷！いきなり宣言！）

私が住む日野市は、

東京の西部にある人口19万人の市。

まだ緑もたくさんあって、街も静か。
変に気張らずにゆったり過ごせるし、

都心にも電車で一本。
住むにはかなり良い街なんです。

でも…街に活気がない。

駅近には関東三大不動のひとつ「高幡不動尊」があるし、新撰組だって有名。
大きな動物園もあります。
もう少し外から遊びに来る方がいてもいいはず。

「街にテーマができないかな？」

そう考えたときに浮かんだのが、着物でした。

高幡不動尊の近くだけでも、なんとなく和風の雰囲気になったらどうだろう？

そんなにお金はかからない。
お店の方や住む方が、自然に着物を着ている——。
そんな風景、すてきじゃないですか？
観光やイベントで着物を着る機会はあっても、それを町の風景に根づかせるのは簡単ではありません。
でももし、普段の買い物や散歩の中に自然と着物姿が混じっていたら？
それは町の景色を一変させるはずです。

「やってみるのは無駄じゃない」
そう感じました。
まずは一人ひとりが着物に触れ、

「特別じゃない」「意外と楽」

と知ってもらうこと。
その第一歩に、私の体験教室は役に立てるかもしれない。

小さな始まりかもしれないけれど、その積み重ねがやがて町全体を変えていく力になる。
そう信じて、進むことにしました。

もちろん一人では難しい。
だからこそ、もっと他のアイデアも欲しいんです。
少しずつ、本当にすごく小さな動きかもしれないけど、
「日野を元気にしたい！」と思ってくれる人たちと一緒に、何か始められたら。
——そう思い始めています。

どう思いますか？

と思っているのは私もです。。。

“Revitalizing the town with kimono.”

That’s what I’ve decided to start.

I live in Hino City, a place still blessed with greenery,

quiet and calm, and with direct train access to central Tokyo.

It’s a wonderful place to live.

But the town feels… a little lacking in energy.

Near the station we have Takahata Fudoson, one of the three great Fudos of Kanto.

The Shinsengumi is well-known here, and there’s also a large zoo.

With all this, more visitors should be coming from outside.

So I began to think:

What if the area around Takahata Fudoson had a slightly more traditional, Japanese atmosphere?

It wouldn’t cost much.

If local shopkeepers and residents casually wore kimono,

the scenery would transform naturally.

Of course, it’s not easy to root kimono into the daily landscape.

But imagine if everyday scenes—shopping, walking through town—were mixed with kimono?

The town’s entire image would change.

I thought, “It wouldn’t be useless to try.”

The first step is simple:

for each person to experience kimono, and realize that it’s “not that special” and “surprisingly comfortable.”

That’s what my kimono dressing lessons can provide.

It may be a small beginning,

but I believe that small steps can eventually transform the entire town.

That’s why I’ve decided to raise this flag.

Of course, I can’t do it alone.

I’d love more ideas, more voices.

Even if the movement is tiny at first,

I want to work with people who also wish to make Hino lively again.

着物は身体を包むもの

こんにちは。HANAです。

今日は美術家・篠田桃紅さんの言葉をご紹介します。

「着物と洋服、人の体を包むということでは同じ。非常に違うのは着物は包むのよ。洋服は入れるのよ。かたちの決まったものの中に生身の人間が入っていくのよ。それは大変な違い。」

とてもシンプルですが、深い言葉ですよね。
洋服は形が決まっていて、人がその枠に合わせなければならない。

一方、着物は多少太ったり痩せたり体型が変わっても、同じ一枚を着ることができる。

人を規制するのではなく、受け入れ、包み込んでくれる。

この違いこそが、着物の魅力なのだと思います。
そして「着物は自由な衣服だ」と感じる理由も、ここにあるのかもしれません。

Today, I’d like to share the words of the artist Toko Shinoda:

“Kimono and Western clothes are the same in that they both cover the human body.

The big difference is that kimono wrap the body, while Western clothes are something you put yourself into.

You place your living body into a fixed shape.

That makes a tremendous difference.”

I find these words very profound.

Western clothes have fixed sizes, and we have to adjust ourselves to fit into them.

But kimono are different. Whether you gain or lose weight, you can wear the same piece.

They don’t restrict you—they gently wrap around you.

Once again, I realize how truly free kimono are.

That’s one of their greatest charms.
