Dear USC Marshall Family,
Welcome back! Whether Spring Break took you to the far corners of the globe on a Marshall international study experience or you stayed closer to home, it is great to be together again.
In just 54 days, we will celebrate commencement-- my favorite time of the academic year --to applaud the outstanding achievements of Marshall Trojans. We have much to look forward to in that short time. Students will be focused not only on their studies, but also on giving back to the local and global communities, particularly on April 2. The day begins with Marshall Community Service Day, organized by Marshall Outreach and Volunteer Entrepreneurs, which unites the entire Marshall community to give back to our neighbors and our neighborhood. That evening we gather for the MBA Challenge for Charity Gala benefiting the Special Olympics, Junior Achievement and A Better LA.
Admiral Scott Sanders, Deputy Commander of the U.S. Second Fleet and a noted expert in anti-piracy strategies will visit with undergraduates, MBA students and Marshall alumni this Monday. We then welcome Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, the United States Ambassador-designate to China, Indonesian Ambassador Dr. Dino Djalal, and dozens of international commercial officers and business leaders at the Asia Pacific Business Outlook conference March 28-29; the event is organized by our CIBER program. A yearlong celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies gets underway next month with the Marcia Israel Awards Banquet, and we look forward to numerous other important academic and professional gatherings as well. This short list of highlights exemplifies the true Trojan spirit of our students, faculty and staff, from the classroom to the conference room. I hope you will spend some time on our new web site to learn more about these and other coming events.
I am particularly grateful for the opportunity to return together as a community and for the safe return of our students and colleagues from their travel to Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Taipei, Buenos Aires and other destinations. Although the PM GLOBE trip to Tokyo was postponed, we look forward to returning soon. Within hours of the disaster in Japan, students contacted me to ask how they could help, and that is already happening. This is the Marshall Trojan way.
Again, welcome home and ….
Fight On!
