She is the representative god of water in Japan. She is considered to be born from Izanami's urine so she is also the god of fertilizer.
The god brings rain or stops it, so it's the origin of life in every aspect. Because she's the god coherent with people's life, it's good to connect with her when you want to have a baby, hope to be fine before events, or want to bring rain for farm products. In addition, she is famous as a papermaker, and is the god at the root of `Echizen washi`*(Japanese paper made in former Echizen province).
According to one theory, Mizuhanome is the god who controls river improvement and groundwater with her husband Mizuhanoo. It's considered Izanagi and Izanami ordered this god couple god to be so`because groundwater is water of Ama no Yasu no Kawara*(place for gods meeting ) Therefore she abides with this, and manages it to help with the growth plants'.
