受験指導をさせてもらっていると「批評家」によくでくわす。どの参考書がどの参考書より良いとか、どの塾がどの塾より良いとか批評ばかりしているタイプの生徒だ。何を食べると脳に良いとか、朝型と夜型はどちらの方が勉強が進むとか批評ばかりしている。
しかし、そういう批評家タイプの生徒が難関大に合格した例を私は見たことがない。
保護者も同様だ。どの高校に行くと自分の子どもの大学進学に有利か情報収集ばかりしている保護者によく出会う。ところが、真剣なのは保護者ばかり当の本人は実にいいかげんという例を嫌と言うほど見てきた。
現実は、シングルマザーの生徒で塾に行かせる経済的な余裕がない逆境の子の方が難関大に合格したりする。
I often encounter "critics" when I am teaching students for entrance examinations. They are the type of students who always criticize which reference book is better than which, or which cram school is better than which. They always criticize what to eat is good for the brain, or whether morning or night study is better.
However, I have never seen a case in which such a critic type student passed a difficult-to-enter university.
The same goes for the parents. I often meet parents who are constantly gathering information on which high school would be advantageous for their children to go to college. However, I have seen too many cases where the parents are only serious but the students themselves are very careless.
The reality is that students of single mothers, who are in a difficult situation and cannot afford to send their children to cram school, are more likely to pass the entrance exam to difficult-to-enter universities.
