「もう泣かないでいいよ。なにも今夜あんたをここから
追い出そうというのじゃないからね。この件について何
がどうなっているか分かるまでここにいていいんだよ。
名前はなんと言うんだい」

home and found that they didn't want you because
you weren't a boy. Oh, this is the most TRAGICAL
thing that ever happened to me!"

orphan:孤児
tragical: = tragic,悲劇的な

「おばさんもきっと泣くわ。身寄りがなくて、自分の家
族になると思っていた人から、男の子じゃないっていう
理由で欲しくないって言われたら、泣くわよ。これまで
でこれほど悲劇的なことはなかったわ」

"Well, well, there's no need to cry so about it."

"Yes, there IS need!" The child raised her head
quickly, revealing a tear-stained face and trembling
lips.

tear-stained face:涙の跡が残る顔,涙に濡れた顔
trembling lips:震える唇

「まあまあ、泣くことはないのよ」

「いいえ、泣かなくちゃいけない」涙に濡れた顔をキッ
と上げ、唇を震わせながら答えた。
