聴けば、聴くほど味が出る。ボニーMの「バビロンの河」。
実は旧約聖書の詩編（１３７）の言葉だったのだと知って驚いたことがある。歌詞は非常にわかりやすい英語。
イスラエルの民がバビロニアに進攻され、異郷の地のバビロンに連れていかれ（バビロン捕囚）、その地で故郷のシオン（イスラエル）が見えるバビロンの河で、嘆き悲しみ、かつ故郷に帰る執念を込めて歌ったものだという。
どうも日本の震災と思いが重なってしまう。
先日、ミラノ・ブレラ地区で日本人アーチストが３０人ほど集まって展示会をした。実際にはもう少しいるはずだが、こういうことは、普段ではありえないことだろう。よくも悪くも、震災の結果、皆の心が一つになって立ち上がった。これは一つの例。音楽家たちもいくつかのグループになって立ち上がったし、パリでは、早稲田の同窓会「稲門会」(とうもんかい）、慶応の「三田会」、上智大学の「ソフィア会」のそれぞれのパリ支部が共催、発足したばかりの東京大学の「欧州フランス赤門会」も協力という形で、ブロカントでバザーをしたんだそうな。
それぞれが、それぞれの場所で、一つになることが大切だということを教えてくれた。そして、その背景には、いつも私たちの心を動かす何かがある。人と人とが支えあう。目にみえるものだけが大切じゃない。忍耐をもって時間をかけなければ見れないこともあるということ。
「限界」なら超えればいい。
「現実」なら変えればいい。やっぱり大切なことは希望を失っちゃいけない、ということなんじゃないのかな。

バビロンの流れのほとりに座り

どうして歌うことができようか
主のための歌を、異教の地で。
ちなみにこの詩は聖書ではこう結ばれている。
・・・娘バビロンよ、破壊者よ
いかに幸いなことか お前が私たちにした仕打ちを
お前にし返すもの お前の幼子をとらえて岩に叩きつけるものは。
・・・とある。もしかして、これは自分たちを苦しめた相手に対しての復讐の曲だったの？！
