Speaking of Singapore, we have an impression of a busy business center but if you go to a suburban area, you can see a different aspect of the city so called ‘Garden City’.

ハンプティ ダンプティは塀の上に座った、ハンプティ ダンプティは派手に落ちた、王様の全ての馬と家来はハンプティを元通りにすることはできなかった。
これは中学の英語の教科書にも出てくる
イギリスの童謡ですが、解説なしにこれを読んでも「何やこれ？」となりました。
ハンプティはずんぐりむっくりの比喩だそうで子どもたちのためのなぞなぞだそうで、答えは卵らしい。そしてput…together は「バラバラになったものを一つにする」という意味なので「割れた卵は元通りにはできない」となりNo use crying over spilt milk=覆水盆に返らず を子どもたちに教えるための詩だったんですね。
そこで私からのなぞなぞです。

私は夕食の帰りにここにこんな水溜まりがあったことに気が付かず頭から突っ込んで全身濡れ鼠になりました。怪我しなかったのが不幸中の幸い!
It happened in Singapore when I was walking a path after going out for dinner. It was dark and my eyesight was too bad to notice there was a pool.
I had a great fall into the pool.
Nobody helped me but someone burst into laughter.
It was a dangerous place!

セントアンドリュース
昨夜到着予定だった娘が着いたのは日付けが変わっていた。二ヶ月ぶりと言ってもネットのビデオ電話でいつも連絡を取っているので特別感はありません。
午後からはオーチャードロード(ショッピング施設、ホテルなどが立ち並ぶ繁華街)ではオープンテラススタイルのカフェで道ゆく人々を眺めながらリラックス。
セントアンドリュース聖堂、シティホールなどの英国統治時代の建物を歩いて巡りながらマーライオン公園に行きました。暑かった！
そう言えば大阪の桃山大がセントアンドリュースですね。関係あるのかな。
