ハンプティ ダンプティは塀の上に座った、ハンプティ ダンプティは派手に落ちた、王様の全ての馬と家来はハンプティを元通りにすることはできなかった。
これは中学の英語の教科書にも出てくる
イギリスの童謡ですが、解説なしにこれを読んでも「何やこれ？」となりました。
ハンプティはずんぐりむっくりの比喩だそうで子どもたちのためのなぞなぞだそうで、答えは卵らしい。そしてput…together は「バラバラになったものを一つにする」という意味なので「割れた卵は元通りにはできない」となりNo use crying over spilt milk=覆水盆に返らず を子どもたちに教えるための詩だったんですね。
そこで私からのなぞなぞです。

Humpty Dumpty got soaking wet
No one could pull him up again
Who is Humpty? It’s not an egg.
I had a great fall into this pool
私は夕食の帰りにここにこんな水溜まりがあったことに気が付かず頭から突っ込んで全身濡れ鼠になりました。怪我しなかったのが不幸中の幸い!
It happened in Singapore when I was walking a path after going out for dinner. It was dark and my eyesight was too bad to notice there was a pool.
I had a great fall into the pool.
Nobody helped me but someone burst into laughter.
It was a dangerous place!
