How many islands have you been to?

In Japan, I’ve been to Awaji island, Shodoshima Island, Tomogashima island and Sensuito island.

みなさんは今までにどれぐらいの島に行きましたか？日本では私は淡路島、小豆島、友ヶ島に仙酔島です。

Sensuito is a beautiful island in Hiroshima-ken. I went there to enjoy sea bathing with my two friends and stayed one night at a hotel there. It was more than half a century ago. 

仙酔島は広島県にある小さな美しい島です。その美しさに仙人でも酔ってしまうぐらいだということです。私は二人の友達と海水浴に行きそこで一泊しました。

Awaji is an island located in Osaka bay. I’ve been there many times because my elder sister’s husband was from the island.

淡路島は大阪湾にある日本で4番目に大きな島です。シンガポールと同じ大きさと言われています。私の姉の夫がこの島の出身だったことから日帰り旅行も含めて何度も行きました。

Shodoshima is an island in Seto Island sea.

I’ve been to the island twice.

We traveled there from Himeji by ship with my two friends in our student time. It has beautiful beaches and mountains.

The second time, I made a trip there with one of my colleagues.

小豆島は瀬戸内海にある島で二度行きました。

学生時代に二人の学友と姫路から船で行きました。美しい浜と山があります。映画「二十四の瞳」の舞台でした。二度目は仕事で同僚と二人で行きました。このときは高松、高知と回りました。

Tomogashima is an island located offshore of Kada in Wakayama. I’ve been there several times with my wife by our motorboat to do fishing and swimming. It is a small uninhabited island.

友ヶ島は和歌山市の加太沖の無人島です。私は何度か自分のモーターボートで妻と釣りや泳ぎに行きました。

Convenient electric power assist bike

As I gave up my driver’s license last summer, I usually use a power assist bike to go out. It’s easy to go up those slopes and go to rather far places. The farthest place was Matsubara I’ve been to. I guess it is more than 20 kilometers.
One of our class members traveled to Lake Biwa that is about 65 kilometers far. It means she traveled about 130 kilometers to go and come back.
Just now I went to hospital and came back with my bike. The problem is that I can’t go by bike when it rains.

And we have to ride bikes carefully not to slip down and not to hit others.
車の免許を昨年夏に止めたので、外出には電動アシスト自転車を使っています。
坂道も簡単に登れるしかなり遠距離も大丈夫です。今まで一番遠い場所は松原です。往復40キロかな。私たちのクラスの女性は琵琶湖まで往復したそうです。130 キロぐらいの距離になります。

私はちょうど今病院に行って帰って来たところです。でも自転車は雨天は無理ですね。

転けないように誰かにぶつからないように注意が必要です。

Goodbye and see you next Bon

昨日はお盆の最終日だったので元住んでいた松原市にあるお寺にお盆の間に仏壇に祀っていた先祖の戒名の札を納めに行きました。
As it was a last day of Bon festival yesterday, I visited a temple located in a city where I used to live. I went to take our ancestors’ Buddhist name plates displayed on our family alter in Bon period to the temple there. In the temple, a monk read some sutra to send off our ancestors’ souls to the heaven.

私たちの祖先を天国に見送る儀式、少し名残り惜しい気分になります。また来年！
