６月の終わりに「平泉」が世界文化遺産に登録された。以前から一度行ってみたいと思っているが行けていない。東京に居た頃に行っておくべきだった、といつも悔やんでいる。

「世界遺産」（”world heritage”）には、「世界自然遺産」（”world natural heritage”）、「世界文化遺産」（”world cultural heritage”）、およびその両者の「複合遺産」（”mixed heritage”）がある。
世界遺産の定義を規定したり、その保護を定めているのが「世界の文化遺産及び自然遺産の保護に関する条約（略称・世界遺産条約）」（”Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage”）であり1972年にパリで採択された。

平泉といえば松尾芭蕉の「奥の細道」でも有名なところで、芭蕉自身平泉で以下の２つの句を残している。
「夏草や兵（つわもの）どもが夢の跡」
The summer grass ‘Tis (= It is) all that's left of ancient warriors’ dreams.

「光堂」（”Hall of Light”）は「中尊寺金色堂」（”Konjikido (Golden Hall) of Chusonji Temple”）のことである。しばし名句とその英訳を鑑賞されたい。
