これは知っている方も多いと思うが、動詞”produce”には「生産する・産出する・制作する」以外の意味がある。
英英辞典の定義は以下のとおり。
4) If you produce evidence or an argument, you show it or explain it to people in order to make them agree with you.
「人が自分の意見に同意するように、証拠や論拠を見せるまたは説明すること」
5) If you produce an object from somewhere, you show it or bring it out so that it can be seen.
「人がある物を何処からか取り出して（人に）見せること」

The court challenged him to produce evidence to support his allegations.
「法廷は彼の申し立てを裏付ける証拠を呈示するするよう彼に要求した」
Scientist have produced powerful arguments against his ideas.
「科学者たちは、彼の考えに反対する強力な論拠を提示した」
She produced a ticket from her pocket.
「彼女はポケットから切符を取り出した」
The man produced a knife and demanded money from the clerk.
「その男はナイフを取り出し店員に金を要求した」
・・・・
ただ同一の文書内で”produce”が「生産する」等の意味で使われている場合は、不用意な誤解を招かないように”present”, “provide”, “take out”等で代用する必要がある。
