当然に意味は知っているが、（産業翻訳における）英訳ではほとんど使うことが無い単語、そんな単語は結構たくさんある。”Disguise”もそんな単語の一つである。以下に定義を調べてみる。
1) If you are in disguise, you are not wearing your usual clothes or you have altered your appearance in other ways, so that people will not recognize you.
「人に自分と気付かれないように、いつもの衣服を着ないで、またはその他の方法で自分の外見を変えること」
2) If you disguise yourself, you put on clothes which make you look like someone else or alter your appearance in other ways, so that people will not recognize you.
「人に自分と気付かれないように、別の誰かのように見える衣服を着て、またはその他の方法で自分の外見を変えること」
3) To disguise something means to hide it or make it appear different so that people will not know about it or will not recognize it.
「人にある物を知られないように、または気付かれないように、その物を隠す、または違って見えるように工作すること」

定義にあるように”disguise”は「変装・偽装」の意味で、何となく悪意のある語に思える。そんな”disguise”だが実は「良い？」意味の慣用句がある。
“Blessing in disguise”。意味はそのまま「姿を変えた祝福、不幸に見えて実はありがたいもの」の意味である。
Missing the train was a blessing in disguise, for if I hadn't, I might have been killed in the derailment.
「列車に乗り遅れたのは不幸中の幸いだった。もしそでうでなかったら脱線事故で命を落とすところだった。」
よく使う諺で言えば「禍を転じて福となす」とか「人間万事塞翁が馬」の意味である。
