昨年、ヨルダン人の男性記者らが行方不明になった事件で
同行のカメラマンとアシスタントのフィリピン人２人が
同島で見つかり警察に保護された。
フィリピン人２人は
７カ月以上続いた拘束生活で疲労がたまっているが
大きな怪我はないという。
記者（中東の衛星テレビ局アルアラビーヤの東南アジア支局長）は
まだ拘束されているという。
犯行グループ側は約１億３千万ペソ（約３億円）の身代金を要求していたという。

第二次世界大戦末期の1945年1月にマニラが在るルソン島に連合国軍が上陸
2月3日、アメリカ軍第1騎兵師団と第37師団がマニラへ突入した。
岩淵三次海軍少将指揮下の陸海軍の混成部隊は
アメリカ軍との間で3週間以上の激しい市街戦を行った。
当時、マニラ市内には約70万人の市民が残っていたが
その多くがアメリカ軍に協力的で
直接ゲリラとして日本軍と戦闘するものもいたという。
日本軍が敗れ
3月3日に戦闘終結が宣言された。
それまでに生じた市民の犠牲者が約10万人とされている。
三年間に及んだ日本のフィリピン支配は幕を閉じた。
