1927年出版のCHIROPRACTIC TEXT BOOK - B. W. STEPHENSON Vol.xIV,のArt. 2. CHIROPRACTIC DEFINEDの中で、次の様に述べられています。（英文のまま翻訳は各人で解釈するのが良いと思いますので。）

"Chiropractic ifs a philosophy, science and art of things natural; a system of adjusting the segments of the spinal column by hand only, for the correction of the cause of dis-ease."

"Chiropractic is defined, the science of palpating and adjusting the articulations of the human spinal column only,"

"A system of adjustment consisting of palpation of the spinal column to ascertain vertebral subluxations followed by the adjustment of them by hand, in order to relieve pressure upon at the intervertebral foramina, so that the nerve force may flow freely from the brain to the rest of the body.

The first definition is Dr. Palmer's and is the best. It tells exactly what Chiropractic is, without limiting its scope and without saying things which are not true, as the others are inclined to do. The second one is from the U.C.A. Model Bill, which is very limiting and therefore not exactly true. The third definition is from Dorland's Dictionary. 100年も前からカイロプラクティックは混沌としていることが理解できる。

カイロプラクティックは、カイロプラクティックの明確な原理も哲学も無い状態で、Andrew Stillのオステオパシーの原則に反映したD.D.Palmerの偶然の出来事から後にRev. Samuel H. Weedにより手でおこなわれたから、由来はギリシャ語で、"カイロ" → "手"、"プラクティック" → "技術" を意味する造語がカイロプラクティックと名付けられた。（参照 ; Wikipedia-History of chiropractic / Wikipedia-カイロプラクティック）

しかしながらカイロプラクティックの発展は 1903 年までほとんど休止状態で、それ以降、D.D.Palmerの息子であるB.J.Palmerが、カイロプラクティックを、いかなる治療法ともまったく似ていない、明確に定義された非治療的な哲学、科学、芸術へと発展させたとある。（参照 ; Science of Chiropractic ITS Principles and Philosophies BY B. J. PALMER, D. C., Ph.C.）

B.J.Palmerの提唱しているカイロプラクティック定義が"Chiropractic ifs a philosophy, science and art of things natural; a system of adjusting the segments of the spinal column by hand only, for the correction of the cause of dis-ease." であり、自然モデルがカイロプラクティックであることは明白なことである。

しかしながら、法的には医学モデルがカイロプラクティックであり、その「哲学 • 科学 • 芸術」は、B.J.Palmerの述べる「哲学 • 科学 • 芸術」とは異なるモノである。

カイロプラクティックは自然の「哲学 • 科学 • 芸術」であることを認識し理解する必要がある。

カイロプラクティックは、病気、疾患を診断し治療する行為ではない。
