ちょっと古い話題ですが、
英国ウィリアム王子の結婚、ありましたね～！
メルマガで取り上げようかどうしようか、
ん～でも時期も過ぎたしなあ、と思っていたのですが
たまたま、ケイトさんとウィリアム王子の婚約会見を
見ていて、
日本の高貴な方々なら絶対に言わないような発言を
しており、面白かったので、取り上げることにしました。
ちなみに面白い発言はこのメルマガで取り上げている
一番最後の部分です^^
加えて、ほとんど解説が必要ないくらい、
簡単な単語で話しているという事実にも注目ください^^

Prince William: It was about three weeks ago on holiday
in Kenya. We had a little private time away together with
some friends and I just decided that it was the right time
really. We had been talking about marriage for a while so
it wasn't a massively big surprise.
I took her up somewhere nice in Kenya and I proposed.
３週間くらい前のことだったよ、ケニアでね、休暇中だった
んだ。友達たちと、プライベートな時間を過ごすことができて、
ちょうどいい時だと思ったんだ。
結婚については、しばらく話してきたから、凄いサプライズという
わけでもなかったんだ。
ケニアで、ちょっとしゃれた場所に彼女を連れて行って
プロポーズしたんだ。

Reporter: So you said yes, obviously?

Miss Middleton: Of course, yes.

William: Absolutely.
その通りだよ。
Reporter: And you knew you were going to do this from day one
of the holiday or you waited until the end?
で、（プロポーズをすることは）旅行の１日目から
わかっていたんですか？または、ぎりぎりまで
決めなかったんですか？
William: I'd been planning it for a while but as every guy
out there will know it takes a certain amount of motivation
to get yourself going.
So I was planning it and then it just felt really right
out in Africa. It was beautiful at the time. I just …
I had done a little bit of planning to show my romantic side.
しばらくの間、いろいろ計画をしていて…でも、ほら、
男って、皆、行動を起こすのにある程度、モチベーションがいるよね。
だから、計画はしていたんだけど、で、アフリカで、
「あっ、今だな」って思ったんだ。美しかったしね。
僕がいかにロマンチックか、見せるためにちょっと計画を
したんだよ。
Reporter: Kate, you'd been on holiday a while so did you see this
coming, was he getting a bit nervous and jumpy?
ケイト、その時、すでに休暇中だったと思うんだけど、
（プロポーズが来るって）わかってた？なんかちょっと彼、
神経質でびくびくしてた？

Miss Middleton: No, not at all because we were out with
friends and things so I really didn't expect it all.
I thought he might have maybe thought about it, but no.
It was a total shock when it came, and very excited.
いえ、全然。友達と一緒だったので、予期していなかったわ。
もしかしたら考えてるのかな～と思ったことはあったけど、
でも、全然。（プロポーズ）されたとき、凄く衝撃をうけて、
ワクワクしたわ。
Reporter: And produced a ring there and then?

William: I did, yes. I had been carrying it around with me
in my rucksack for about three weeks before that and I
literally would not let it go, everywhere I went I was
keeping hold of it because I knew this thing,
if it disappeared I would be in a lot of trouble and
because I'd planned it, it went fine. You hear a lot of
horror stories about proposing and things going horribly
wrong - it went really, really well and I was really pleased
she said yes.
そうなんだ。その前に、ずっと３週間くらいリュックに入れていたんだ。
で、文字通り、ずっと離さなかったんだ、どこへ行くにも。
っていうのも、もしなくなったらすっごく困ると思って。
計画したからこそ、うまく行ったんだ。プロポーズにまつわる
怖い話とか、事態悪化の話はたくさん聞くし…でも、
（プロポーズは）とてもうまく行ったんだ。彼女がＹＥＳ！と言って
くれて本当にうれしかったよ。

Reporter: And it's a family ring?
で、それはファミリーリングなんですよね？
William: It is a family ring, yes. It's my mother's
engagement ring. So I thought it was quite nice because
obviously she's not going to be around to share any of
the fun and excitement of it all - this was my way of
keeping her sort of close to it all.
そう、ファミリーリングなんだよ。母の婚約指輪でね。
母は（婚約の）楽しさも興奮も一緒には、味わえないと
思うから、いい考えだと思うんだ…こうして、母を
身近に感じられたらいいなと思って。
Reporter: I guess we better have a look at it. What kind of
ring is it, are you an expert on what's …?
ちょっと見てみようか…どんな指輪でしょう？
（指輪に）詳しいですか？
William: I'm not an expert on it at all.
I've been reliably informed it's a sapphire with
some diamonds. I'm sure everyone recognizes it from
previous times.
全然詳しくないんだ。
信頼できる人に言わせると、サファイアとダイアモンドだって。
前回、皆見たことあると思うんだけど。
Miss Middleton: It's beautiful.
本当にきれいよね。
Reporter: Kate, you're going to be the envy of many.
ケイト、皆にうらやましがられるよ。
Miss Middleton: Well, I just hope I look after it.
It's very, very special.
大事にしないと。すごく特別だから。
William: If she loses it she's in big trouble.
もし彼女が無くしちゃったら、大変なことになるよ。
Reporter: Now it has to be said, you both look incredibly
happy and relaxed.
二人はとっても幸せそうで、リラックスしてるね。
William: We are. We are. We're like sort of ducks,
very calm on the surface with little feet going under
the water. But uh no, it's been really exciting because
we've been talking about it for a long time so for us,
it's a real relief and it's really nice to be able to
tell everybody. Especially for the last two or three
weeks it's been quite difficult not telling anyone,
and keeping it to ourselves for reasons we had to.
And it's really nice to finally be able to share it
with everyone.
そうだね。ま、僕らはアヒルみたいなものだよ…表面上は
静かなんだけど、水面下では足をばたつかせてるんだよ。
でも、本当にワクワクするね、ずっと話し合ってきたから、
皆に知らせられることはほっとしたし、嬉しいよ。
特に、２～３週間は誰にも言わないようにするのに
大変で…そうしなければいけない理由もあったんだけど。
皆に知らせることができて本当にうれしいよ。
