さて、今回のメルマガでは
バラック・オバマ氏をとりあげてみたいとおもいます。
オバマ氏はいわずと知れたアメリカ大統領候補で、
その力強いスピーチに定評があります。
日本ではオバマ氏の名前は聞けど
スピーチを英語で聞くという機会はなかなか
ないと思いますのでこの機会に聞いて見てくださいね。
それにしてもスピーチうまいですよね！

Now even as we speak, there are those who are preparing to divide us,
the spin masters and negative ad peddlers who embrace
the politics of anything goes.
ここで話しているうちにも、何でもありの政治を受け入れている情報操作屋や
宣伝屋が我々を分断させようとしている。
Well, I say to them tonight, there's not a liberal America
and a conservative America; there’s the United States of America.
私は今夜彼らに言いたい。
リベラルのアメリカも保守のアメリカもなく、ただ“アメリカ合衆国”
があるだけなのだ。
There's not a black America and white America and Latino America and
Asian America; there’s the United States of America.
黒人のアメリカも白人のアメリカもラテン系アメリカもアジア系アメリカでも
なく“アメリカ合衆国”があるのだ。
The pundits, the pundits like to slice and dice our country into
red states and blue States:
red states for Republicans, blue States for Democrats.
But I've got news for them, too.
評論家たちは、我々の国を「赤い州（共和党支持の州）」と
「青い州（民主党支持の州）」に切り分けようとしているが、
私にも言いたいことがある。
We worship an awesome God in the blue states,
and we don't like federal agents poking around our libraries
in the red states.
青い州でも神を崇拝するし、
赤い州でも図書館の周りで連邦捜査官がききまわるのを好まない。
We coach little league in the blue states and, yes,
we've got some gay friends in the red states.
青い州でもリトルリーグをコーチしたりするし、
赤い州にもゲイの友人がいる。
There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq,
and there are patriots who supported the war in Iraq.
イラク戦争に反対した愛国者もいれば、それを支持した愛国者もいる。
We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars
and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America.
我々は皆、星条旗に忠誠を誓い、米国を守っている一つの国民です。
In the end, that’s what this election is about.
Do we participate in a politics of cynicism,
or do we participate in a politics of hope?
結局、それがこの選挙の意味です。
皮肉の政治に参加しますか？それとも、希望の政治に参加するのでしょうか？
One voice can change a room, and if one voice can change a room,
then it can change a senate, and if it can change a senate,
it can change a state, and if it change a state,
it can change a nation, and if it can change a nation,
it can change the world.
ひとつになった意見は部屋を変えることができる。
部屋を変えることができれば、上院を変えることができる。
上院を変えることができれば、州を変えることができる。
州を変えることができれば、国家を変えることができる。
そして、国家を変えることができれば、世界を変えることができる。
Your voice can change the world.
皆さんの意見は世界を変えることができる。

アメリカでは選挙のCMって結構あるんですよね。
はじめてみたときは「え、こんなことしていいの？」
と思いましたが・・・（笑）
冒頭にセレブ代表としてパリス・ヒルトン、
ブリトニー・スピアーズが出てきますが
これはその後に続くナレーション：
「彼は世界でもっともビッグなセレブリティ。
でも、指導者になる準備はできているのだろうか？」
を示唆しているんですね。
最後は「増税、そして海外からの原油の輸入・・・
それこそが本当のオバマ氏の姿だ」
というメッセージで締めくくられています。
