-Hot, humid, and rainy day! We are tired of summer!
I went to Akihabara today. It was crowded with both regular customers as well as tourists. I bought some PC's parts but could not resist taking pictures and think about subject for our blog. Many attractions in Akihabara; I will write about this subject in the future.
-Return rush in both highway and national road for the end of the Obon yasumi. We are Happy for the families ending the holiday with gasoline price little bit down than few weeks ago.
-In the 100 M, Bolt made history by winning one of the most exciting competition in the 2008 Olympics with style and new record! It was unbelievable race!
-At the same time. There was the Japan- Korea Baseball match, which Japan lost again after loosing to Cuba in the opening. Too much hope for a team which still struggling to reach a more competitive level.
-Japanese Volleyball lost to Venezuela. The team Still has a long long road walk before reaching a more competitive level. It is time to stop dreaming and see the reality! For a start change the coach and hire new young team.
-The soccer team is already preparing for London 2012! I do not think they realized what went wrong with 2008 Olypmics team!
-The ping pong male team also lost again Germany!
-Is japanese team work over? Well at least in Sport. Japan is known for its group work harmony which made this country strong, apparently the team sport is not good example for japanese society. Most of medals were taken in individual sports.
-Last but not least a photo of our beagle who was tired all day long,
and went only once for a walk only late in the evening!

Last year we had many BBQ parties home. This year it is so hot that we do not even think about stepping out for a drink in the garden. We even bought a huge amount of charcoal which we used only a couple of times. Even our beagle feels the difference since we walk him only in the evening. During the day he prefers staying under the air conditioner than go outside!
It was so hot that I decided to go to the swimming pool today. It was so crowded that I decided to go work out in the gym! The influence of the Olympics on people is amazing! Most of the people in the swimming pool were dressed like pros! They were practicing the breaststroke; thanks to Kitajima this sport now is famous. Even the goggles he used during Olympics are sold out!

Milが図書館に行ったときのこと。
「おはようございます。予約していた本がきてますか？」
図書館でごく普通に交わされる会話です。
すると、女性スタッフが手と首を使って話し始めたそうです。指でカードの形をつくり、
「カード。カード」
またか‥
そう、日本人が外国人に対してやってしまう独特のゼスチャー。
そのゼスチャーが日本人の親切心からきているこもも多いということも、私にはわかります。
でもMil は手を使って話をされるのが大嫌い。
「なんで人を幼稚園児のようにあつかうのか！」
このような出来事は今まで、数え切れないほど起こり、うんざりしてきたのだといいます。
たとえば、運転免許センター。たくさんの紙や、運転免許証などを確認されます。
スタッフは両手で、カードのような、はがきのような形を作り、
「持ってますか？」
Milがていねいな日本語で説明を始めても、依然として、手や首を使い話すことをやめません。
「カード。カード。オッケー？」
おかしなことにかれらの日本語のほうが、おかしくなっちゃうのだ。
その四角い形は、免許証であったり外国人登録証であったり、時にははがきなのか、用紙なのか‥‥四角い形を指で作っても、世の中に四角いものは山ほどあるのだからどれをさしているのかわからないこともしばしば。
「外国人を見たら日本語がしゃべれないと思うの？私はいつもていねいな日本語を使って話しているのに‥」
Milの日本語は、コミュニケーションに全く問題のないレベル。
しかし、対応するスタッフの方がテンパっちゃうのだ。
私が一緒にいる場合、Milがたずねた質問に９０％以上の人は、私の顔を見て説明をします。
Milの顔は見ません。というか目を合わせません。
私は彼らの対応の理由がなんとなくわかるような気もします。
通じないかもしれない。隣の日本人に言えば、伝えてもらえるだろうということなのでしょう。
でも彼にとって見たら
『無視された。失礼な人だ』
と思うのです。
近所のドラッグストアで必ず聞かれる、
「ポイントカードはお持ちですか？」
もMilがひとりでレジに行くと、聞かれたことは一度もないそうです。
彼がカードを出すと、黙って受け取り、用がすんだら黙ってそれを返すのです。
彼のフラストレーションわかるなあ。
こんな些細なことで、日本人と外国人の間に誤解は生まれてしまうのかもしれませんね。
愛犬の友人関係
今日は犬の友達をご紹介します！
近所で出会ったかわいいバーニーズ。
とても人なつこい。あまりにかわいいので、なでてあげてたら、うちの犬がやきもちをやいてしまいました。
いつも遊んでくれるふたり。
もちろん尊敬のまなざしですよ。
「すごい！速くて足が見えない‥」
