Juliet NXT® Lens - Polarized Photochromic Red Mirror

Today, I would like to write in detail about this.

____________________________________________________________________________________________

Hello, everyone.

How are you all doing?

Juliet X-Metal lenses now come with NXT® Polarized Photochromic Red Mirror. 上矢印

At LINEGEAR, this marks the introduction of the sixth type of Red Mirror.

1. Polycarbonate Lens

2. Polycarbonate Polarized Lens

3. HD / Polycarbonate

4. NXT Standard

5. NXT® Polarized

And the newly released NXT Polarized Photochromic lens

Today, I'd like to write about this red mirror NXT® Polarized Photochromic lens.

____________________________________________________________________________________________

First, for those who may not be familiar,

Let's briefly explain what polarized lenses are.

In a nutshell, polarized lenses have a polarizing film sandwiched within them.

Well, to put it in an image, it's like peering through a landscape from the gaps in blinds.

下矢印

Therefore, at certain angles, especially light from above or below doesn't enter the eyes. This helps to reduce glare by suppressing the scattered reflection of light.

As the amount of light passing through is reduced by the polarizing film, polarized lenses don't have clear lenses like regular lenses.

There are no lenses that provide a bright field of vision suitable for night driving, etc.

(Although if the polarization decreases, there are lenses with a light transmittance of 60% or 70%, but this also reduces the degree of polarization, thus diminishing the proportion of glare reduction.)

However, polarized lenses do not obstruct the light from the field of vision you want to see, which is a significant advantage.

In essence, polarized lenses are designed to "maximize preventing intense light from entering the eyes."

They are meant to be used in situations where you want to reduce glare.

In short, "Polarized lenses eliminate glare when it's too bright."

____________________________________________________________________________________________

Now, "What are photochromic lenses?"

These lenses adjust the amount of light reaching the eyes by changing the intensity of the lens color, getting darker or lighter depending on the situation.

When it's bright, the lens darkens to reduce glare, and when it's dark, the lens lightens up to brighten the field of vision.

The numbers like 75% or 22% represent the percentage of light transmitted through the lens (transmittance).

Therefore, with photochromic lenses, there are clear lenses available, among others.

Generally, as the color of the lens darkens, the amount of light passing through decreases, reducing glare. However, photochromic lenses, unlike polarized lenses, do not have the function of preventing scattered reflection of light.

So, that's the difference between "polarized lenses" and "photochromic lenses."

In reality, lenses combining these two functions didn't exist until now. However, NXT® lenses have successfully incorporated both functions into a single lens, achieving the best of both worlds.

Furthermore, LINEGEAR has added a red mirror to this polarized photochromic lens and applied an anti-reflective coating on the back to reduce backside glare.

With this background, reading today's article on the polarized photochromic NXT® Red Mirror should make things clear. There might be a bit of a lengthy explanation, but I hope you'll read until the end.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Let's get started.

I'd like to introduce the polarized photochromic NXT® lens.

True to its name, it is the ultimate lens equipped with both polarization and photochromic functionalities.

For detailed information on this type of lens, I have written extensively in last year's article when we released the Flash Black polarized photochromic lens. Please read that article for more details.

Until now, there has only been one color in LINEGEAR's lineup for this polarized photochromic lens.

This time, we are releasing the second color, a Red Mirror polarized photochromic NXT® lens!

I'd like to share some images of Juliet with this lens installed.

The mirror, like the Polycarbonate Polarized Red Mirror and NXT® Red Mirror, features the highest quality mirror coating.

Since it's a photochromic lens, it has a slightly translucent, refreshing red color.

When the mirror effect is active, it becomes quite red.

What do you think? I hope you've got a general idea from the description.

___________________________________________________________________________________________

Now, I'd like to explain the details of the lens.

The light transmittance ranges from 36% to 10%.

In other words, when exposed to strong sunlight outdoors, the lens adjusts to reduce glare (the lens color becomes darker).

NXT® lenses, being UV photochromic, adjust based on the amount of ultraviolet light. Therefore, they won't darken significantly when inside a car (as car windows usually have UV-cut features). Please keep this in mind.

Now, you might be curious about how the lens looks when not photochromic and how it appears when in the photochromic state.

Take a look at the images below.

The 36% state represents the lens when it is not photochromic.

The 10% state represents the lens when it is fully photochromic.

Let me provide some more explanation.

At 36%, the lens has a fairly transparent red color. When at 36%, even when used indoors, you won't feel a significant darkening of your field of vision.

And when in the photochromic state at 10%, the base lens darkens, resulting in a look like this. 下矢印

The perception of the red color may vary depending on how the image is captured and the degree of photochromism at that moment. However, it won't have the intense, solid red appearance like the Polycarbonate Red Mirror but rather a lens with a red mirror that always has a slight transparency.

As for the color tone, I will be posting many images of the lens installed in various frames later on. If you take a look at those, you'll get a better sense of the color.

____________________________________________________________________________________________

Personally, on sunny days recently, I have been using these lenses almost every day while driving or walking outdoors during the day.

In terms of the actual experience, they proved to be quite comfortable. As mentioned in a previous article, these lenses fall under the category of "All-Time Polarized Lenses."

What does "All-Time Polarized" mean? It means polarization works both outdoors and indoors. In other words, there's no ON/OFF switch for the polarization feature; instead, the photochromic feature controls the intensity of the lens, supporting the polarization feature as needed.

Therefore, the best usage environment is outdoors. Well, sunglasses are primarily designed to reduce glare and protect the eyes from UV rays, so it's unlikely that people would prefer to use them indoors. However, since it has a photochromic feature to adjust the perceived brightness, it excels in that aspect compared to regular polarized lenses.

You can definitely feel the effects of the photochromic feature. While using polarized lenses, you may encounter situations where you think, "It's a bit dark," but this lens, with its photochromic support, provides a comfortable experience during outdoor activities.

Moreover, being made from the ultra-clear NXT® material, it offers a clear field of vision. You might say, "Wow!? It's so clear and stylish." Plus, the lens specifications provide a sense of satisfaction, claiming to be among the world's best

The backside is coated to prevent reflections.

The selling price is 120 USD (tax included).

It is scheduled for release soon.

Please consider it for this summer.

How was it?

In reality, the red color tone varies dynamically with the changing conditions due to the photochromic nature of the lens.

Of course, in situations with no UV, like indoors, where the transmission rate is 36%, you might experience a somewhat translucent effect on the eyes.

So, if you're constantly looking for the red mirror effect, I recommend sticking to a polarized red mirror lens without color variation.

However, considering the comfort and convenience of this photochromic polarized lens, along with the stylish addition of the mirror, it seems to have become a lens that many enthusiasts who favor red-tinted lenses would appreciate.
