渓流用ロッドを作成するにあたり、今回、新たにスレッドを購入しました。
今まで作ってきたロッドは自分用は全てEVAグリップで、スレッドは赤と黒のみ保有していました。
渓流に赤は違うでしょ、と新しいスレッドを物色していたら、このオーロラスレッドのマラカイト色に魅了。
渓流、森の中で派手すぎず、地味すぎず、映えるんじゃないかなと、期待を込めて購入しました。
あわせてトリムに使う色も購入。メタリックスレッドのゴールド。色調が薄めの金なので、そこまで下品に光らず、良い感じにアクセントになればいいなと思い選択しました。
さて、スレッドを巻くにあたっていつも迷うのが、スレッドの巻くパターン。
今回はマラカイトをメインで、ゴールドをアクセントに使うつもりでしたが、悩むポイントとしては、竿の継ぎ目の補強のスレッドや、フックキーパー、ブランクとグリップの継ぎ目のパターンをどうするか。
これまで何本か2ピースを作ってきて、ガイドに巻くスレッドのパターンと、それ以外の場所のパターンを揃えると、竿を繋いだ時に、ガイドの規則正しい並びの中に、繋ぎ目のスレッドが異常な位置に現れるため、A型人間としてはどこか気持ち悪さを感じていました。
一方、市販のロッドを見ると、そもそもスレッドが黒をベースにしてるものが多いので、ガイドの規則的な並びの中に継ぎ目が入ってもあまり気にならないということのようで、アクセントで色を入れていても、ガイドも継ぎ目も同じパターンでスレッドが巻かれているケースが多いようでした。
今回はマラカイトをメインに置きたいので既存品はあまり参考にならない、というのが正直なところ。。。
仕方がないので、パワポでイメージ図を書いてみて、最終的にガイド以外は黒をベースに使って、ゴールドとマラカイトでアクセントを入れる形式にしました。
とりあえず最初の段階として、グリップとブランクの境目、フックキーパー、各つなぎ目の補強のスレッドだけ巻きました。黒のスレッドは残り僅かになって使い切りたいという理由だけでダルスレッド、ブラック、太めのCスレッドを使いました。
やはりブラックをメインに持ってくるとあまり目立たず良い感じ。このパターンでガイドも巻くか？？と誘惑にも駆られましたが、まずは予定通り、マラカイトをメインにガイドをつけていってみます。
次はガイドの位置決定です。
When creating a rod for mountain streams, I purchased new threads.
Up until now, all the rods I made for myself had EVA grips, and I only had red and black threads in my collection.
I thought that red wouldn't be suitable for mountain streams.
While searching for new threads, I was captivated by this Aurora Thread in Malachite color.
I bought it with the hope that it would be eye-catching in the mountain streams and forests without being too flashy or dull.
I also purchased a color for trimming. It's a Metallic Thread in gold. Since it has a subtle golden tone, it won't shine excessively and hopefully provide a nice accent.
Now, when it comes to wrapping the threads, I always struggle with the wrapping pattern.
This time, I intended to use Malachite as the main color and accentuate it with gold. However, I'm undecided on the pattern for reinforcing the rod's joint, the hook keeper, and the junction between the blank and grip.
In the past, I have made several two-piece rods, and aligning the wrapping patterns between the guides and other areas resulted in the joint thread appearing in an abnormal position within the orderly arrangement of the guides. As a typical A-blood type person, it bothered me.
On the other hand, when I look at commercially available rods, many of them have black as the base color for the thread. So even if the joint falls within the regular arrangement of the guides, it doesn't seem to be much of an issue. It appears that the guides and joints are often wrapped with the same pattern, even when accent colors are used.
Honestly, since I want Malachite to be the main color this time, the existing rods are not very helpful as a reference...
So, I drew an illustrated diagram in PowerPoint and decided to use black as the base for everything except the guides, where I will use gold and Malachite as accents.
For now, in the initial stage, I only wrapped the thread at the junction between the grip and blank, the hook keeper, and the reinforcement threads at each junction. I used C type dull thread of black color as a base color for those, simply because I wanted to use up the remaining stock of the black thread.
Bringing black as the main color does make it less noticeable and gives a nice effect. I was tempted to wrap the guides with this pattern too, but I will stick to the plan and attach the guides with Malachite as the main color.
Next is determining the placement of the guides.
