日米Youth Forum感想 ～David A. Fedmanさん、油井英孝さん～

ゆり（もう一人の）がブログ書いた直後なのですが、
アップしたいことがあったのでブログ更新☆
１１月に開催された日米ユースフォーラムでパネリストをしてくれた学生からの
感想メッセージを頂きました。
少し遅れてはしまいましたが、
順次写真とともにご紹介したいと思います。
まずは、アメリカ代表、 David A. Fedmanさん。
Brown University出身のDavidさんは、Fulbright奨学生として現在北海道教育大学に留学中でいらっしゃいます。
ユースフォーラムへは北海道からはるばるきてくださいました。
The forum opened my eyes not only to the diversity of opinion that exists among countries, but also, on an interpersonal level, among youth of all backgrounds. I met an incredible mix of exciting, creative young people, and despite the lack of consensus on how to move forward, it gave me hope that we have the brain power and innovative people to help turn the tide.
What was perhaps the most surprising to me, and something I have been grappling with since the forum's conclusion, is the urgent tone expressed by the older generation present. Climate change will be one of the defining challenges of our generation, and surely those to come, but the older generation present, one you could argue is largely responsible for our current environmental woes, were pushing harder than the rest of us, and gratefully so. There is much to learn from the lessons of the past, and it is exactly through dialogue such as the forum that the diversity of opinion that bridges age, nationality, and other differences, that we will slowly but surely work our way towards progress, innovation and the change we have to see in the world.
Davidさんの言うとおり、本当に意見の多様さが目立ったフォーラムでした。
最後の質疑応答では会場の皆様も巻き込んだディスカッションも出来、
時間の制約で打ち切らなければならなくなってしまったことが大変惜しかったです。
次は、日本代表、油井英孝くんです。
第６０回日米学生会議の参加者でもあった油井くんは、
得意のジョークで観客を楽しませながら、大変メッセージ性の強いスピーチをしてくれました。
企業にとっても人にとっても、環境に優しくするという善意のみに頼るのでは限界があって、
環境に配慮をさせるようなインセンティブが必要。
そのとおりだと思いました。
フォーラム後の懇親会でも、油井くんの周りには始終油井くんと話したいという人がたくさんいて
ひっぱりだこでした。
そんな油井くんの感想：
I realized how difficult it is to convey my thoughts for 7 minutes. There are various people from various backgrounds with various minds, so I needed to make my speech easy to understand, but at the same time, I had to make it magnificent so that the power of words could be truly strong and effective for the audience. Fortunately, I had a lot of feedback from the audience, and brushed my conviction. I believe that the meaning of communicating comes from the courage from the speaker, and it was my great privilege to raise my opinion in fornt of more than 200 people. I hope that this forum will continue to be the place where a lot of people can exchange their ideas.

1) Why did you apply to 60th JASC?
- I applied to the 60th JASC to have the opportunity for cultural exchange. I also feel that such programs are important in regard to the goal of global peace and prosperity.
2) How was 60th JASC? (Did it influence you in some way? If so, how etc)
-The 60th JASC was very amazing in terms of friendships built. As far as the academic rigors of the conference I feel that I didn't receive nearly as much benefit. JASC has, however; influenced me to share my experiences with others.
3) What was the most memorable thing in 60th JASC?
-The most memorable moments of the 60th conference were when all of the delegates came together into a cohesive group, rather than being Amedele and Japadele.
4) If you had to express JASC in one phrase or word, how would you describe it?
-幸せ
5) When is the happiest moment in a day?
-When I receive a comment, note, or letter from a friend.
6) Imagine that now you were in an inhabited island and were allowed to bring only 3 items. What would you bring? and why?
-Utility tool for making supplies.
Lots of rope for tying stuff up.
iPod and solar charger to keep me sane.
7) What would you do on the last day of the earth?
-Watch the sunrise and set while drinking and listening to 'Waltzing Matilda.'
8) Have you ever been to Japan?
-No. Just joking… I live there.
9) What is your favourite phrase or word in Japanese?
-うんめいを感じる
10) Give a short message for the readers in English.
-My name is Jon-Michael Durkin, but if you want you can call me Durkin. Currently I am studying abroad at Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka prefecture. We are all working really hard to make the 61st JASC amazing, so please consider checking it out!

-私は本当に会うのを楽しみにしています。申し込みを頑張って！

-I was in class!

お久しぶりです
久しぶりの更新になってしまいました。
一段と寒くなりましたが、いかがお過ごしでしょうか。
先週13日土曜日に、第60回日米学生会議報告会が無事行われました。
足を運んでくださった皆さま、本当にありがとうございました。
報告会を通じ、日米学生会議、そして来年の61回会議に興味を持ってくださった方が多く、大変嬉しく思います。
今後のイベントにも是非、足を運んでくださいね～('-^*)/

1) Why did you apply to 60th JASC?
- My roommate, Nancy Yang, was a delegate of the 59th JASC and an AEC of the 60th. She recommended that I apply, and I feel very lucky that I found out about JASC through her!
2) How was 60th JASC? (Did it influence you in some way? If so, how etc)
-At the 60th JASC, I met an incredible group of people, all brilliant, motivated, and concerned about the world. It changed the way I think, bringing my nose out of my books and making me think more about the world around me and my power to change it. JASC was an incredibly thought-provoking experience for me, and I hope I can help provide an experience like that for the 61st JASCers.
Also, and maybe more importantly, I made so many precious friends at JASC!
3) What was the most memorable thing in 60th JASC?
-My most memorable experience in the 60th JASC was the homestay in Montana. We drove through the mountains, saw buffalo, ate elk burgers, and even rode on a motorcycle! Seeing the land and the people through the eyes of my Japadele homestay sister gave me a new appreciation of my own country.
4) If you had to express JASC in one phrase or word, how would you describe it?
-AWESOME.
5) When is the happiest moment in a day?
-I try to make every moment in the day happy!
6) Imagine that now you were in an inhabited island and were allowed to bring only 3 items. What would you bring? and why?
-
1. My French horn, so I would never get bored!
2. If I had to choose only one book to read for the rest of my life, I would bring The Tale of Genji!
3. A pen and paper, so I could write letters to JASCers and send them out to sea in bottles!
7) What would you do on the last day of the earth?
-It's a boring answer, but I'd spend it with my family. Either that, or go out, become a superhero, and save the world from destruction!
8) Have you ever been to Japan?
-Yes, I've lived in Kanazawa over the summer for two summers. It's such a lovely city!
9) What is your favourite phrase or word in Japanese?
-あわれ～～～
10) Give a short message for the readers in English.
-Please apply to JASC! And join my Education RT!

-It is 3 A.M. and I am drinking coffee and answering email. Before that, I spent five straight hours in rehearsal. No sleep tonight! My life is extremely exciting.
