旅程12日目
とうとう旅も終盤へと近づいている。
夫の希望で後半は旅程を入れておらず
数日前から小倉の後は何処に行くかと
話し合いが始まっていた。
福岡も良いが既に何度か行ったことがある。
どうせなら行ったことの無い街へ
ということで広島に決めて
新幹線の予約をしたのは
前日のことである。
緑の窓口で予約
当然割引等一切無し
コスパ重視の人々からすると
我々の行動パターンは酷いものだと思う。
私だって 本当は
お得なツアーを楽しみたいが
その為にはネットを駆使したり
早め早めに予約するのが良いようだ。
完全に準備不足＆勉強不足である。
今回山積みとなった課題は
ぜひ次回に生かしたい。
緑の窓口の方のアドバイスもあり
席の後ろにスーツケースを置ける
一両あたり一列しかない席を予約した。
高くても窓口で予約して良かったと
無理やり自分を納得させる。
午前中の新幹線で
お昼頃には広島に着く予定だ。
新幹線の所要時間は3時間くらい
ビールと駅弁を買うぞと
張り切っていたのに
サンドウィッチを選んだ夫に釣られ
ベーカリーで明太子バケットを
買ってしまった。
大失態である。
新幹線は快適で
食べたり飲んだりしていたら
3時間なんてあっという間で
広島に着いてしまった。
ホテルのチェックインまで時間がある。
予約していないが
レンタカーを借りようと
駅近のレンタカー会社を
何軒かハシゴする我々であったが
なんとどこも空車無し。
ここでも事前予約の大切さを
痛感するのである。
そこまで遠くはなさそうだしと
仕方なくタクシーで
ホテルまで行くことにする。
スーツケースがあると
どうしても公共交通機関は億劫になる。
チェックインには早いが
ホテルで荷物だけ
預かってもらう事にした。
ホテルも前日に予約した。
横浜で泊ったＴｈｅ Ｋｎｏｔが
広島にもあったのでそこに決める。
価格は横浜より高かったが
部屋の広さも2倍くらい
いやそれ以上あったかもしれない。
トイレとバスが別々という
贅沢な間取り。
ここには3泊する予定だ。
だがしかし直前予約のせいか
部屋はまたまた最低階層の2階である。
ゴールデンウィークも終わっているのに
何でこんなに人が多いのだろう。
ホテルから直ぐの
平和記念公園を散策
それから適当に歩いて
居酒屋風のお店でランチにする。
1000円未満で
ボリュームたっぷりのランチ
ビールも安くてスタッフもフレンドリー。
何だか申し訳ないくらいである。
お店の前にスタッフ募集のチラシ
時給1000円とある。
NZの最低時給の半分くらいだ。
そう思うとちょっと切ない。
広島と言えばお好み焼きだ。
夜はお好み村も散策した。
お好み焼き屋さんばかり入っている
ビルに潜入。
どの階もたくさんのお好み焼き屋が
煙をモクモクさせている。
自分達までスモークされそうである。
鉄板を囲むように
カウンター席があるのが
定番らしい。
中に一軒 予約札がカウンターに
やたら並んでいるお店があった。
相当美味しいのだろうか。
『空いてますか？』と聞いたら
『はぁ?』みたいな顔をされたあと
『無い無い』と言われた。
人気店過ぎてそういう感じなんだ
と思った。
仕方なく一旦ビルを出て
その近くのお好み焼き屋さんに入った。
予約は大事だ。
Day 12 of the trip
Finally, the trip is nearing the end.
At my husband's request, we haven't made any plans for the second half of the trip, and we had been discussing a few days ago where to go after Kokura.
Fukuoka is nice, but we've been there a few times already.
We decided on Hiroshima and booked the Shinkansen the day before, thinking we might as well go to a city we've never been to before.
We booked at the green ticket office, and of course, there were no discounts.
I think our behavior is terrible from the perspective of people who value value for money.
I would also like to enjoy a good-value tour, but it seems that in order to do that, it's best to make use of the internet more and book much earlier.
We were completely unprepared and understudying.
I'd like to make use of the mountain of issues we've piled up this time next time.
With the advice of the green ticket office, we booked a seat in the only row per car where we could place our suitcases behind the seat.
We forced ourselves to believe that it was a good idea to book at the ticket office, even though it was expensive.
We'll arrive in Hiroshima around noon on the morning Shinkansen.
The Shinkansen takes about three hours. I was excited to buy some beer and bento, but my husband picked out a sandwich, so I ended up buying a mentaiko baguette at a bakery. What a mistake.
The Shinkansen was comfortable, and while we were eating and drinking, the three hours flew by, and we arrived in Hiroshima. We had some time before we had to check into the hotel, so we went to several rental car companies near the station to rent a car, even though we hadn't made a reservation, but there were no cars available anywhere. Here again, we were reminded of the importance of making reservations in advance. It didn't seem that far, so we decided to take a taxi to the hotel. With suitcases, public transportation was a pain. It was too early to check in, but we decided to leave our luggages at the hotel. We had booked the hotel the day before. The Knot that we had stayed at in Yokohama was also in Hiroshima, so we decided to go there. The price was higher than Yokohama, but the room was twice as big, or maybe even bigger.
The bathroom and toilet were separate, making for a luxurious layout.
We plan to stay here for three nights.
However, perhaps because I made the reservation at the last minute, we were once again given a room on the lowest floor, the second floor.
I wonder why there were so many people here even though Golden Week was over.
We strolled around Peace Memorial Park, which was close to the hotel, and then walked around to a pub-style restaurant for lunch.
It was a hearty lunch for less than 1000 yen, and the beer was cheap, and the staff were friendly.
I almost felt bad.
In front of the restaurant, there was a flyer advertising staff, saying the hourly wage was 1000 yen.
That's about half the minimum wage in New Zealand.
When I think about it, I feel a little sad.
When I think of Hiroshima, I think of okonomiyaki.
At night, we also strolled around Okonomiyaki Village.
We sneaked into a building filled with okonomiyaki restaurants.
Every floor was filled with okonomiyaki restaurants, and there were so many of them billowing smoke.
I felt like we were going to be smoked too.
It seems that the standard is to have counter seats surrounding the hot plate.
There was one restaurant inside that had a bunch of reservation signs lined up on the counter.
I wonder if the food is really good.
When I asked, "Can we have a table?" the guy looked at me like, "Huh?" and then said, "No, no."
I figured that's just how popular the restaurant is.
We had no choice but to leave the building and go into a nearby okonomiyaki restaurant.
Reservations are important.
