elevator fall

今日の日経平均は492円安、22000円の大台を割り込みました。
先日、中国市場が弱気相場入りしましたが、日本市場も追随していきそうな雰囲気になってきました。
空売り比率が47%まで上昇してるんで多少の反発はあるでしょうが、早めに22000円を回復できなければ、このままズルズルと下落トレンドに向かうかもしれません。
会社員の方はボーナスの時期ですが、くれぐれも株で溶かさないようにお気をつけください。
株の格言を一つ。
The stock market goes up like a stair and comes down like an elevator.
上昇は階段を上がるようにゆっくりだが、下落はエレベーターのように急である。
上昇はゆっくりなんで、じれったくて買ってしまうんですが、最後には暴落に巻き込まれてみんな損してしまうんですね。
難しいもんです。
liver-friendly day

英語カフェでの一節です。
A, B, C: お客さん、S: 外国人スタッフさん
A: I'm working for a trading company as a sales.
S: That's tough.
A: Yeah, very tough.
S: My image of Japanese sales guys is that they have to love drinking. They have to have good social skills.
A: Yeah, that's very important. Last week, I had to go to business parties every day, Monday to Friday. It's bad for my liver.
S: Hahaha. I heard that drinking coffee a lot helps liver to get better.
B: Liver is also good for liver. Sijimi and miso soup are also good.
A: Yeah, I think so. That's very important.
S: Are you strong at alcohol?
A: I'm not so strong. I usually drink seven to eight jokkis of beer.
S: Then you ARE strong!
A: Not strong. There are many strong monsters in my company. I'm just a normal level, hahaha.
C: You should have a liver-friendly day.
外国人スタッフさんは、日本の営業マンに対して、飲み会のイメージがあるようで、実際、Aさんは、毎日のように飲み会があるとのこと。
肝臓にいい飲み物、食べ物として、コーヒー、レバー、シジミ、味噌汁が出て来てますが、調べてみると本当のようです。まあ、私は全然飲まないんで気にしませんが。
途中に jokki とありますが、ジョッキは水差しを意味する jug から転じた和製英語のようです。
正確には、mug を使って、
I usually drink three mugs of beer.
と言うようです。
最後の liver-friendly day は休肝日のことを言ってます。ただ、休肝日に対応する正式な名称はないようです。
調べると alcohol-free day, liver rest day なども出てきますが、多分そのままでは意図が通じにくいので、説明を添えると良いかと思います。
You should have a liver-friendly day which is the day when you don't drink alcohol to rest your liver.
のような感じでしょうか。
私は酒を飲まない代わり、PCやスマホ等のディスプレイを見ている時間が非常に長く、視力の低下が悩みです。
なので、たまに eye-friendly day を作った方が良いかもしれません。
stand a chance

英語カフェでの一節です。フランス🇫🇷出身のスタッフさんとW杯について話しました。
S: スタッフさん、K: 私
S: Do you have any plans for tonight?
K: I just watch soccer.
S: Watch soccer? France?
K: Yeah.
S: I'm gonna watch that too. Who are you supporting, France or Argentina?
K: I don't support any of the teams. I just watch it.
S: Oh, really. The day after tomorrow, Japan will play against Belgium, right?
K: Yeah.
S: I think that Japan will definitely lose. Belgium is playing so good. They don't stand a chance at all.
K: In the last game, Japan didn't play for the last ten minutes. How did you think about it?
S: I know. It was really boring to watch. But it was a game tactic. For the fans, it was pretty boring to watch. But for the team, it doesn't matter.
K: I think that it was boring especially for the Russian people who went to the stadium. They don't care about the details of points.
S: Yeah, they wanna see actions. They don't wanna see people just passing a ball. But it was probably the best idea for Japan because they couldn't make any good chances in the second half of the game.
日本🇯🇵vsベルギー🇧🇪に関して、彼の予想では2-0もしくは3-0でベルギーが勝つということでした。まあ、誰もがそういう予想ですよね。
セネガル戦での日本の時間稼ぎについては一定の理解を示しておられました。流石にフランス人ということで、サッカーの見方についてはシビアな印象を受けました。
今回、stand a chance という表現を初めて聞きました。
stand a chance は、「可能性がある、見込みがある」という意味で、
Japan doesn't stand a chance of winning against Belgium.
のように使います。
会話では at all を付けて強調されてますね。
