日本国内では、全く隠されていますが・・。
榎原美樹さんと言えば、
『プライムタイムニュース』『NHKニュース10』の
アンカーとして活躍していた女性報道記者ですね。
『NHKニュース10』のキャスターをした後は、
同番組の海外機動取材を、
そして、NHKバンコク支局特派員、
アフガニスタンやイラクなどにおける戦場取材を経験した他、
津波、地震などの災害報道も行い、
2009年より、NHKアメリカ総局勤務、
『NHK海外ネットワーク』のﾁｰﾌﾌﾟﾛﾃﾞｭｰｻｰでもあり、
ＮＨＫワールドの編集長を勤めています。（日本への移動が決定）
Who is Kenji Goto? 後藤健二とは？
NHK WORLD's Editor-in-Chief, Miki Ebara, joins me now in studio. Miki, you are well acquainted with Kenji Goto.
ＮＨＫワールドの編集長、榎原美樹さんにこのスタジオにお越し頂いています。
美樹さん、あなたは後藤健二さんをとても良くご存知なのですね。
I've known him for almost 2 decades as we have both been covering conflicts and disasters around the world. People close to Kenji have not known his whereabouts since late October. This disturbing image I see of him---if it is genuine-- is the first proof in months that he is still alive. It breaks my heart to see him in this horrific situation, but it offers some hope.
私たちは共に世界中の紛争や災害を取材をしてきて、約20年来、彼を知っています。
人々は、10月下旬から行方が解らなくなってしまった健二に接しています。
私が見ている彼のこの不穏な画像―これが本物であるなら―これは、彼がまだ生きている数ヶ月の第一の証明です。これは、この恐ろしい状況にいる彼を見ることは、私の心を痛めつけます。
しかし、それはいくつかの希望も物語っているのです。
Goto has contributed some reports to NHK WORLD in the past too, has he not?

Yes he has. Kenji has contributed to many NHK programs. His last report aired in late October.

彼の最後のレポートは、10月下旬（*2014/10/22放送）に放送されました。
He was in a Tukish-Syrian border town overlooking the city of the northern Syrian city of Ayn al-Arab --or known in Kurdish language as Kobani. He was covering the situation of Kurdish refugees fleeing from the violence of Islamic State militants. They were arriving in waves, they did not have much to eat or wear or anywhere to stay, so they were taking shelters in unfinished or abandoned buildings.
彼は、アイン·アル·アラブのシリア北部の街を見下ろすトルコ-シリアの国境の町―クルド語でコバニとして知られる街にいました。彼は、イスラム国の過激派の暴力から逃れてきたクルド難民の状況を取材していました。彼らは波のように辿り着き、食べ物も着るものも住むところも満足になかったのです。そして、彼らは建設中か、あるいは放棄されたビルにいたのです。
Here he was showing tanks, appeared to be of Islamic State, roaring into the city. I last saw him the day before this report was aired, one day before he left for Turkey. He told me that he was planning to go into Syria from there. So he left, and according to people close to him, he was planning to return to Japan on 29th October. But he went missing about 4 days before then.
ここで彼は、街に爆走しているイスラム国のものと思われる戦車を見せていました。私が彼を最後に見たのは、彼がトルコを離れる前のある日、このレポートが放映された前です。
彼は、そこからシリアに行くことを計画している（" target="_blank">*2014/10/25・ISﾗｯｶ入りメッセージ）と私に言いました。それから彼は発って行き―彼に近しい人に寄ると、彼は10月の29日に日本に帰る計画でした。
He's a seasoned journalist who's covered many war and conflict zones?
彼は多くの戦争や紛争地帯を取材したベテランのジャーナリストですか？
Yes. He's been covering countless conflicts but he's not a war journalist. Kenji's focus was always on the humanitarian side of the story. He always tried to listen to stories of children, women, ordinary people about their lives and feelings. Professionally he was usually very careful, always worked with local people who know what's dangerous, what to avoid, etc. But Kenji had also told me even for him, Syria was full of danger.
そうです。彼は数え切れないほどの紛争を取材してきましたが、彼は戦争ジャーナリストではありません。彼の焦点は、常にその物語の人道的な面に向けられていました。彼は常に子供たち、女性、一般の人々の生活や感情の物語に耳を傾けようとしていました。プロフェッショナルである彼は、通常、非常に慎重でした。何が危険か、避けるべきことなどを知っている地元の人たちと彼は常に一緒に働いていました。しかし、彼でさえシリアは危険に満ちていたと私に語っていました。
There are many players, for instance, the Assad regime that's very skeptical of international journalists in the first place. Then there are different opposition groups fighting against the government, and new actors such as Islamic State emerged. It's such a complicated picture.
そこには多くのアクターがいます。例えば、まず最初に、国際ジャーナリストを信用していないアサド政権。それから、政府に反対して戦う異なる抵抗組織がいます。そして、イスラム国が登場したように新しい役者たちが。かくも複雑な図なのです。
Goto is seen with another man IS claims to be another hostage, Yukawa.
後藤さんは、もう一人の人、
ISがもう一人の人質だと主張する湯川さんを知っていたのですね。
Yukawa was initially with an armed opposition group. Actually Kenji told me he saw Yukawa with the group in his previous visit to Syria, and he said Yukawa did not seem to be in immediate danger and seemed to have even befriended with the armed group. The group has informed NHK that Yukawa got lost north of Aleppo and apparently was detained by Islamic State. We don't know how Kenji fell in the hands of Islamic State. I just pray for safety of both men.
湯川氏は、最初、武装抵抗グループと一緒でした。実は健二は、湯川氏の前回のシリア入りの時に、その武装グループと一緒にいる湯川さんを見たと私に言っていたのです。
そして、湯川氏は即時危険であるというようには見えなかった。そして、その武装グループと仲良くさえしているように見えたと言っていました。その武装グループは、湯川氏がアレッポで迷子になり、どうやらイスラム国に拘束されたらしいとＮＨＫに通知してきました。私たちは、健二がどのようにイスラム国の手に落ちたのかが解らないのです。私は、ただ二人の無事を祈っています。
