web browser size

i recently noticed that the number of websites, which automatically adjust the web browser size to their own sizes once i access the sites, is increasing. however, it annoys me a lot as i don't use the browser in full size; i have my own specific size. once i access those sites, the size of the browser will be adjusted to their sizes from the next time i open the brower, so i have to resize the browser again and again. that irritates me a lot. would it be a way to keep my size??

最近気付いたことなんですが、ウェブ・サイトにアクセスすると自動的にそのサイトのサイズにアジャストされてしまうようなウェブ・サイトが増えてませんか。あれって非常にうっとうしいんですよね。というのも、ブラウザを開く時はフル・サイズでは使用しておらず、自分自身の決まったサイズで閲覧してるんですよね。でも、こうしたサイトにアクセスしてしまうと、次からはこれらのサイズにアジャストされたブラウザが立ち上がるわけなんですよ。で、その度に自分のサイズにサイズ変更しなければならない。もう、うっとうしいです。これを防ぐ方法ってあるんでしょうか??

i see a transition to cost-efficiency

i got bunch of giveaway stuff at convenience stores when i bought cartons of cigarettes. but this time, i noticed that i got a lot of match boxes instead of lighters. i guess it's because of the cost-efficient promotion.

コンビニでタバコをカートンで買ったら、また色々と貰ったわけなんですが、今回はライターの代わりにマッチがあれこれ入っているのに気付きました。多分、マッチの方がコスト効率の良いプロモーションになるんでしょう。

these are a couple of what i got. i still don't like the logos..., maybe it's because the brand is not the one i smoke. nah, i just don't like it, i guess.

これらは色々貰った中のライター。でも、ロゴがいただけません・・・。多分、自分が吸っている銘柄じゃないから。いや、単純に好きじゃないだけか。

these are the ones i also got. i guess the production cost is lower than lighters. not a bad design but as you can instantly imagine by looking at the design, this isn't my brand either.

これも貰いもの。ライターよりも生産コストが安いんでしょうね。デザインは悪くないんですが、見た目ですぐに分かるようにこれも自分の銘柄じゃない。

i heard that london finally banned smoking in public buildings..... i wonder how long from now on i will smoke. and if i ever face the situation of quitting smoking in the future, will it be done by my own will or will it be forced to do son by outside pressures..... in any ways, i still seek for better life.

とうとうロンドンでも人が集まる建物の中での喫煙が禁止になったということを耳にしました・・・。自分は、こらから一体いつまでタバコを吸い続けるんでしょうかね。そして、もし禁煙しなければならない状態に直面した時、はたしてそれは自分自身の意志によるものか、それとも外部圧力によるものなのか、気になるところです。いずれにしても、ベター・ライフを求めていくことになるんでしょうが。

my aura.....

according to the psychic whom my wife went to see, my aura is red which means that i'm a strong person. well, i've barely thought of myself as a strong person although i always want to be a strong person. there's always something inside myself which makes me to not being proud to whatever and whoever around me. but hey, i'm a strong person. would this be a typical example of barnum effect?? let's take this way: he can who believes he can.

うちの奥さんが会ってきたサイキックの方によると、自分のオーラは赤色だそうで強い人間だと。え～っと、強い人間でありたいという願望は持っていますが、自分を強い人間だと考えたことはほとんどありません。堂々とすることができない、常に引き気味の感じなんですよね。でも!! 強いらしいですよ。これって、典型的なバーナム効果なんでしょうか?? まぁ、信じる者は救われるという方向で行きましょうかね。

rainy season without much rain

as it is getting usual (??), we have entered the rainy season but so far we've seen not much rain (more to come later?). temperatures are around upper 20's to lower 30's in the highs and lower 20's in lows (degrees in centigrade), with humidity of course. have you already turned on the air-conditioner?

i guess most people have already turned it on but we haven't. it's hot but it's not that bad as compared to the previous house we lived. buildings with solid concrete have better thermal insultation than wooden houses. besides, nice breeze comes in from the windows. i wish i could open more. since our place is right next to the big street, we hear traffic noises (really noisy!!), and because of the heavy traffic, a lot of dusts come in from the window.

もう普通（??）になりつつありますが、梅雨の時期に入ったにもかかわらず雨はあまり降っていませんね（これから??）。気温は上が20度台後半～30度台前半、下が20度台前半といった具合ですが、湿度は高い。と言うわけで、皆さんはもうエアコン使っていますか？

恐らく、エアコンを使っている人は多いのではないかと思うのですが、我が家ではまだです。暑いのは暑いんですが、以前に住んでいたところに比べると全然まし。鉄筋コンクリート製の建物は、木造の建物よりも保温機能が高いと感じます。窓からそよ風も入ってきますし。ただ、窓をもっと開けられればいいんですがね。と言うのも、大通りに面しているために車の音がうるさい（本当にうるさい!!）、そして交通量が多いせいもあってか窓からほこりも結構入ってくるんですよね。

one thing which made me surprised when we were looking for place in tokyo was that almost all the places had air-conditioners. i guess no one would look for places without air-conditioners, unless you are looking for really cheap places. we're gonna bring ours but we left them.....

物件探しをしている時に驚かされたこと。それは、ほとんどの物件がエアコン付だったということです。多分、よほど安い物件を探しているわけではない限り、エアコンなしの物件には目を向ける人がいないんでしょうね。うちらもエアコン持って来ようとしていたんですが、置いてきました・・・。

one of my favorite cartoons while i was in the us was the simpsons, and most of my american friends around me did love it. sometimes, we gathered with beers and snacks in the hands to watch the simpsons, and we're like lol!! there will be a movie in this summer in the us, and you can now create avatars. i wonder if the movie will come to japan.....

btw, the other cartoon i liked was beavis and butthead.....

向こうにいた時のお気に入りアニメの1つはザ・シンプソンズでした。で、自分の周りにいたアメリカ人の友達のほとんども、このアニメがお気に入り。時には皆で集まってビールやスナックを片手にシンプソンズを見ることも。で、大爆笑!! 向こうでは夏に映画が公開されるみたいで、今、アバターが作れます。あ～、日本では公開されるんでしょうかね・・・。

それで、もう1つ好きだったアニメはビービス・アンド・バットヘッド・・・。

giveaway lighters

when i buy cigarettes, i usually buy cartons, and i noticed that there are so many of giveaway lighters i got from convenience stores.

タバコを買う時はいつもカートンで買います。で、ふと見たら、コンビニで貰ったライターが沢山。

they are normal lighters in different colors. most of those lighters used to be bic brand, which is made in france. now, i barely see bic lighters.

これらは通常のライターの色違い。こういったタイプのライターのほとんどはフランス製のビックでしたよね。でも最近では、ビックのライターはほとんど見かけませんね。

these are squared lighters i get to see more these days. the only matter is that gas storage space is smaller than other lighters.

これは最近見かけるようになった角ばったライター。ガスの量が少ないのが玉にキズ。

these are lighters with logos in differenct shapes and sizes. bottom left is a portable ashtray, which i don't carry around because it's a bit heavy as a portable ashtray. when i was in the previous company and went for overseas business trip, i usually carried small lighters because they fit perfect in the suit pants pocket. besides, i wouldn't mind if authorities picked up my lighters at the security check at the airports.

これらはロゴのついた様々な形・サイズのライター。下段の一番左はポータブル灰皿ですが、ポータブルとしては若干重いので持ち歩いてはいません。前の会社で海外出張に行く時は、一番小さいライターを持って行ってました。というのも、スーツのパンツのポケットにうまく収まるんですよね。それから、空港のセキュリティー・チェックで没収されても気にならないし。

this is a lighter with led on the bottom. don't underestimate the power of led. this is very bright, and you can use this as a search light.

ledライトが底についたライター。ledだからと言って侮るなかれ。これがかなり明るくて、懐中電灯としても使えるのです。

this isn't a lighter but a radio. too bad this one cannot receive am stations..... well, i won't use it anyway though.

こらはラジオ。am放送が聞けないのがちと残念か・・・。と言っても、使うことはないと思いますが。

what i heard about above lighters is that due to the flactuations of energy prices, the sizes of those lighters or gas storage spaces do change accordingly. speaking of lighters, i used to use hand-carved sterling silver zippo with matching ciagarette case but they are resting now.

前に聞いたんですが、エネルギー価格の変動に応じて、ライターまたはガスを貯めておくスペースのサイズも変わっているみたいです。で、ライターと言えば、以前は純銀の手彫りジッポーと柄がマッチしたシガレット・ケースを使っていたんですが、今はお休み中。

lucky got beer coupons!!

lucky that we got the beer coupons from father-in-low. since we consume a lot, we usually drink low-malt beer, so the coupons are really valuable to us!! thank you so much!! speaking of low-malt beer, we used drink that when we were in the states. 12 packs of them only costed about $6.00 which is about 750yen, damn so cheap!!!

義理の父からビール券を貰いました、ラッキー。なんせ消費量が多いために普段は発泡酒を飲んでいるので、このビール券はとぉ～っても価値があるのでした!! 有難うございました!! 発泡酒と言えば、向こうにいたころからよく飲んでいました。で、12缶入りでなんと円換算で７５０円くらい。安!!!

pheasant hatching updated

for those who remember the entry about pheasant's eggs , here's an updated info. about four eggs hatched but all gone, including parent pheasants, from the nest after grevious cry..... (according to my dad) probably, babies were attacked by stray cats. well, that's a part of real wild life though but still sad.....

pepsi ice cucumber

tried a newly released pepsi ice cucumber. to me, it's "no way, man!" it's like drinking mellon flavor syrup for ice shavings, very much chemical taste which leaves on your tongue after drinking this. no taste of cucumber at all, well i think there's no clear taste of actual cucumber though..... i like the chemical taste of cherry coke but not this one.

新しく発売されたペプシのアイスキューカンバーをトライしてみました。自分にとっては「うわっ、不味い!」でした。何か、カキ氷用のメロン・シロップでも飲んでいるような感じで、飲んだ後に化学的な後味が残ります。キュウリの味なんて全然しません。そもそも、実際のキュウリに明確な味ってないような気もするんですが・・・。チェリー・コークの化学的な味は好きなんですが、コレはダメ。
