本日から、Lesson17 End-of-Life Plans（終活）の第1回目です。
■ end-of-life plan
「終活計画」、「終末期の人生設計」という意味です。
■ It's nice of you to ask.
「気にかけてくれてうれしいです」という意味で、It's nice of you to offer.も類似表現です。
■ self-made man
「自力で大成した人」、「たたき上げの人」という意味で、特にお金も教育も地位もない中でスタートし、独力で成功し、富を得た人を意味します。
■ close to
「～近くに」という意味で、nearlyやalmostと同義です。
また、「ある段階に近づいている」という場合は、close in onを使います。
次のような例文が挙げられていました。
We are closing in on 50,000 followers for our social media site.
■ come in handy
「役に立つ」 という意味で、convenientと同義です。
また、keep or have something handy（手近にある）という表現もあります。
■ outlive one's money
「生活費が尽きる」という意味です。
outlive its usefulnessとかoutlive its effectivenessは、「役に立たなくなる」という意味です。
次のような例文が挙げられていました。
Our traditional marketing approach has outlived its effectiveness.
■ take the time
「時間を十分かける」という意味で、spend enough time to do somethingということです。
次のような例文が挙げられていました。
It is important to take the time to thank people who helped us.
■ make a well-informed decision
「十分に情報を集めたうえで決断する」という意味です。
次のような例文が挙げられていました。
To make a well-informed decision he could talk to people who already work there and research the company online. Things like that.
また、informed decision()十分な情報に基づく決定）いう言い回しもあります。
