本日は、実践ビジネス英語 A Word to the Wise（助言をひと言）の第1回目です。
■ a word to the wise
賢者は一言にして足る、という意味で、A word is enough to the wise.(賢い人には一度言えば十分だ)ということです。
■ send someone one's best
「（人）によろしく伝えてください」という意味で、convey one's best regardsということです。
■ obituary
（新聞などの）死亡記事[訃報欄]のことです。また、write one's own ticketというと、「（転職や昇給など）良い条件を要求する」という意味.になります。
■ reflect on
「･･･について熟考する」という意味で、この場合のreflectはponderと同義です。次のような例文が挙げられていました。
She is taking some time to reflect on the job offer before making a final decision.
■ biography
「伝記」という意味です。
■ lead an orderly, linear life
「穏やかで平坦な人生を送る」という意味です。orderlyは、free from turmoil and disarrayということです。.
■ give full mark to
「･･･に満点をつける」という意味です。
■ sheer spunk
「純粋な意欲」という意味で、unmixed with anything elseということです。次のような例文が挙げられていました。
In terms of sheer profit, Company X suffered a loss.
■ be on the decline
「下落[衰退]傾向」にある」という意味です。
