■ slapdash
「ぞんざいな」、「いいかげんな」という意味で、 hasty, careless workということです。slapとdashという2つの単語を組み合わせたものがこの単語の意味をよく表しています。.次のような例文が挙げられていました。
He did a terribly slapdash job on this report.
■ make the grade
「合格する」、「基準に達する」という意味で、be good enoughとかbe satisfactoryということです。
次のような例文が挙げられていました。
Their new model didn't make the grade in safety tests.
■ conscientious
「まじめな」、「良心的な」という意味で、carefulとかmeticulousと同義です。
次のような例文が挙げられていました。
He is a very conscientious driver. He follows all the traffic rules and ...
■ if you will
「言ってみれば」、「言うなれば」という意味です。
■ Procrastination is the thief of time.
「先延ばしは時間の浪費」という意味で、同様な意味のことわざに、Never [ Don't ] put off till tomorrow what you can do today. （今日できることは明日に延ばすな）があります。
■ shunt something aside
「（物事を）棚上げにする」という意味です。次のような例文が挙げられていました。
I feel like my suggestions are always shunted aside.
■ take a [its] toll on
「･･･に大きな損失（被害）をもたらす」という意味で、damage somethingということです。次のような例文が挙げられていました。
All the stress is taking its toll on her health.
