■ assosiate A with B
「AとBを結び付ける」という意味で、放送では次のような文章で用いられています。
I've always associated the term "middle class" with concepts like honest labor.
■ evoke
「～を呼び起こす」という意味で、invokeと同意です。放送では次のような文章で用いられています。
They all evoke an image of income earned through diligence.
■ identify A with B
「AとBを同一視する」という意味です。放送では以下のような文章が使われています。
US politicians go to a lot of trouble to identify themselves with the middle class..
■ portray oneself as A
「自分自身をAに見立てる」、「自分自身がAであることを証明する」という意味です。放送では以下のような文章が用いられています。
( US politicians go to a lot of trouble ) to portray themselves as understanding its needs and concerns.
■ off the top of one's head
「思い付きで」という意味です。放送中は以下のような文章が用いられていました。
He didn't know off the top of his head, and his opponent used that to portray him as living in a different world from ordinary Americans...
■ take up
「～が占める」という意味です。放送では以下のような文章が用いられていました。
Food also takes up a big chunk of our monthly pay in Tokyo.
■ to one's heart content
「思う存分」という意味です。放送では、次のような文章でした。
It's so much cheaper he can munch on grapes and blueberries(?) to his heart's content.
