Spring/Summer Collection 2011: 5

Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren are two designers that are important to
the New York collections. The theme of this season Francisco Costa
at Calvin Klein Collection, is Sultry and Sexy. It is extreme simplicity
to express a clean, spare American minimalism that combines a sleek
urban edge with comfort. Long, elongating lines, sculptural dresses and
sharp shoulders, without “extras” except for a few delicate pleats,
express the essence of Calvin Klein.

It’s sexy from behind.

The main colors are neutral naturals, such as white, ivory, sand, straw,
charcoal – with only blue and red for drama.
On the front row, American actresses Julianne Moore, Kerry Washington,
Isabel Lucas and Katie Holmes, wearing Calvin Klein’s simple,
sexy styles, drew admiring glances.

Ralph Lauren expressed his love of the strong women in a collection
that combined leather, fringe and lace mixed with a romantic mood.

The chandeliers were placed here for only the show. Ralph’s collection
used a variety of materials – leather, silk, suede, cotton, chamois, linen –
and the limited colors of a sun-bleached desert range – white, ivory,
cream, tan and brown with glints of silver – like a beautiful painting.
At the end of the show, Ralph Lauren took his bow wearing brown
leather pants with a white shirt which matched the theme of his collection.

During New York Fashion Week, the audience is as good a show as
on the runway.

Models, journalists and retail executives at the Calvin Klein & Ralph
Lauren shows, express their personalities even when they are casually
dressed.
